My mom and MIL along w/both my SIL's buy from QVC all the time. My mom is a big jewelry person and knows her stuff and she says a lot of it is good quality for a good price. She actually just bought 2 sets of 18 inch pearls for my DD's for their 16th birthdays (they are now 11 & 14) because they were a fantastic quality for the price; plus she said if she "goes" before they turn 16 they'll still get pearls from their grandma. Sigh. She also returns about half the stuff she orders because she doesn't like it. Somewhere somebody at the USPS is giggling with glee. My mom and MIL have conversations about the various hosts; it's almost like they know them. Now my mom is older, and she keeps it on as a diversion. I have ordered GC's from them (for mom & mil) a few scrapbooking things (Creating Keepsakes has a presence on there every few months) a pair of Birkenstocks and a Dooney & Bourke pocketbook (which was a good deal.) I don't really turn my TV on too often so it's not something I watch unless prompted by one of the mom's

I buy from QVC a few times a year, only dealt w/HSN once or twice...much prefer QVC cusomter service. QVC has the best deal on Dell computer packages that I've been able to find and I have purchased my last 2 computers from them. Other than the computers, I've only purchased smaller, less expensive things...I'm not a big spender and most of the stuff is overpriced.

Every so often I'll flip through the channels and stop on the the shopping channels when they are slinging computers.

Either they are lying through their teeth or they have no idea what they are talking about.

I remember one time the guy was talking about the DVR capabilities of a particular computer, saying it had this feature and that feature. The only problem was that he was pointing out features that were "greyed out" since the computer only shipped with the limited-edition of the software. If you wanted those features, you'd need to buy the full-version of the program.

I've caught them making ridiculous claims for battery life of laptops, claims of their computer having the fastest processor out there (when it's a mid-range processor), and the insane "retail" price of the included software bundle. Most of the programs in the "software bundle" can be found for $5.00 and under, but the shopping channels claim they are worth 10x that.

I shop with QVC several times a year. A couple months ago I bought the newest KitchenAid Professional 450 watt 10 speed mixer with the new dough hook and extra wide bowl and I paid less money including tax and shipping than what an artisian style one sells for in the stores around here. I have found some great deals on QVC but quite a few of their products are over priced or about the same as I can buy from a store and it costs less to drive to the store than their shipping. One great thing about QVC is their customer service. My dad ordered a new food saver and a couple days later got a call saying that somehow the woman who took his order placed his order then cancelled it and because of this the extra bags ended up costing more and they were backordered. By the end of the call my dad ended up getting the extra bags for free and got free shipping on everything!

Just know your products and their costs at other places before ordering.

It can definitly become a habit because it is so easy and part of the sales pitch is you need to buy know, get to the phones fast because it will sell out and on certain things they do have sell outs. I have shopped with QVC, not as much lately as when I first started. I was buying to much on impulse because it would sell out and not be back for months but have learned to do better. If you do place an order and change your mind you can cancel the order if it hasn't shipped yet and that is what I have done lately. I have found some good deals and things I can't find locally but there is also many things you can buy at Walmarts for cheaper and no shipping.

I have watched QVC as a diversion - especially when I am sick - it is very mind numbing to see those people drone on and on about their products. My MIL bought us a Northern Nights down mattress pad from QVC for Christmas this year. I have found a few QVC products at garage sales, LOL and bought them. I got one of their exclusive Dooney and Burke handbags at a garage sale and it was very nice.

My mom is addicted to QVC. It works out great for me because she always buys me stuff :D She has bought me a lot of really nice jewelry from them. Some of it cost more than what it really should have, but they were relatively unique pieces that you couldn't just walk into the store and find. My mom orders clothes from them, scrapbooking/card making supplies for me, gadgets for the guys, even meat !!! (she's bought some great hamburgers from Omaha Steaks and some of the Nathan's hot dog stuff)

I personally only shop QVC a few times a year. I only turn it on if I'm really bored because I have an extrememly addictive personality when it comes to shopping, so I have to be careful! I always like to see what kind of neat gadgets they have for stocking stuffers and stuff though.

Like someone else said above, just be informed. Know your stuff and what it would cost you somewhere else. (if you can find it somewhere else)

I admit that when flipping through the channels I always manage to stop at QVC and HSN to see what they are pitching. I love to hear the different hosts use the same key words "price of admission alone", "I own one and I love it"!

I do purchase some items, but you have to know what you're buying. I usually check online prior to buying something to see if I'm getting a good price

I wanted to buy a vacuum after an infomercial, it was $120 but then the payments were cheap and you got a free steamer and you could get another unit free. When I called the only way to get the steamer and the other unit free was to pay in full, and then you still had to pay an additional $30 shipping on the free one. My husband said toi go ahead and buy it and I did using check by phone and they ran a check for over $300! My husband called to find out why and they could not look up or cancel the order because it was being processed so we had to stop payment on the check and pay the fee for that. So now I won;t buy anything from infomercials again and I avoid the shopping networks.

OMG! I always wondered if those infomercial "deals" were too good to be true!!!

when i lived near Tampa, FL I enjoyed going to the HSN Outlet store down there. I wouldn't pay the full prices they listed on some of their items, but I really liked their outlet prices. I picked up a few pieces of jewelry there, some shoes, and other misc. items.

My aunt shops QVC religiously. We always know that anything that comes from her has come from QVC. Some of it's really great stuff and some is typical. She gave me a roaster from there a few years ago that I absolutely love. Also some really great pans.

I got my dh a Craftsman tool set there once. It was a great price and he loves the set. Came in a tool box. I haven't shopped there in over a couple years, and before then it was not often--maybe once a year. The smartest thing is to buy brands that you are aware of and have experienced their quality. Obviously Craftsman is great, and always carries lifetime warranties.

I love QVC, great deals and good customer service. Their Cooks Essentials line is top-notch

and Denim and Co. too. I have never been disatisfied with them or their products.

I don't find the s&h too bad usually and their easy pay plan makes many things affordable.

I enjoy some of the hosts, they are really funny and after watching awhile you do get to

know all about them and their families etc. I usually have it on in the background just for

noise when I am home alone. You can also get quite a few things they sell on Ebay. Just

type in QVC in the search bar. :gdthums:

Infomercials & their customer service can be a complete nightmare. I ordered something off the tv quite a few years ago and had to have the CC company close my account and open a new one. :eyepoppin The company figured I needed to be on the auto-ship plan and continously sent me their terribly overpriced, non-effective product and charged my card over & over again. I called their customer service #s for months to try to make it stop (very rude, hung up, couldn't find my account info, etc), sent shipments back unopened and they never refunded the money. My cc company disputed the charges for me and helped with closing the account so they would not be able to continue charging me. Nowadays, if I "need" something I've seen on an infomercial, I look to Boscov's locally first, then HSN/QVC, sometimes Ebay.

My mom absolutely loves QVC. She stashes all the junk in my old room. Boxes & boxes of overpriced crap that she just had to buy. She falls asleep watching it, she claims she likes to listen to them talk. If my dad knew how much money she squanders, he'd go nuts. One year for Christmas she bought me & my sisters purses-aghhh. Not to sound ungreatful, but they were horrid vinyl bags, we each got a special color (banana, merlot, black & white). Another year she bought us all tacky Bob Mackie designer shirts! We are all in our thirties, we don't do bingo or go to casinos. Where else would you wear something like that? She paid $60 for each shirt & who knows how much shipping, then return shipping (or they may be piled up in the room of QVC must haves). I know she means well & I don't want to hurt her feelings but I also don't want her wasting her money on things we will never use/wear.

Somethings she buys, like Clarke shoes & Dooneys, I've seen at Macys a lot cheaper w/o shipping. I just don't get it.
