51" Hitachi Vs. 56" Toshiba DLP's on BF

Best buy is having two great deals on TV's that I would consider and I'm just looking for any input. The Hitachi DLP for $700 looks blurry or fuzzy in the store but I've read great reviews on it. The Toshiba for $1200 looks better in the store but I can't really find reviews on it. Does anyone have any personal experience with either of the two?

Thanks!

not sure if it's much of a concern to you, but be aware that the Hitachi is over double the weight of the Toshiba DLP...and the toshiba already weighs 70+ pounds

Isn't the Hitachi a CRT, not a DLP? I'm looking into that one as well since there are good reviews on line for it (not too concerned with depth & weight aspects of it). I'm planning on checking them out next weekend to see which one looks better (that or the 52" LCD projection at CC).

You're right. Oops. :)

Thank you everyone! DLP is looking great because its cheap and i dont have to worry about burn in. Sweet. I guess im going with the Toshiba, its $700 off and I got 200 best buy bucks.

I was going to go with the Toshiba 56", but I didnt know what kind of Financing Best Buy was going to have. Instead I got a 50" DLP Samsung free DVR recorder, and TV stand, with 24months no interest!

Plus free shipping!

It is missing the integrated cable card reader on the side, and it only does 720hd. O well Im still happy with the other fixins I got.

I bought the 50" Samsung DLP from HH GREGG about 4 months ago. I am nothing but happy with it. DVD's, Satellite (I upgraded to the HD Satellite), and playstation 2 (you will want to get the Component cables for the playstation 2, without them I was unimpressed, but with them, it is awesome. I got mine from eBay for about $10.00 shipped) all look great. It only weighs about 60 pounds. 720p and comp link on side. My only regret is that I didn't wait until now to get the great deal BB hsa on the DLP. Best thing is that when the light bulb burns out (about 50,000 hours) you buy a new bulb (about $250.00) and install it yourself and the TV is as good as the day you bring it home. This is a great advantage of DLP over PLasma and LCD and the old projection units.

Just my 2 pennies.

The best I can tell the Toshiba is on the 2 day sell. What do you all think the chance of getting one would be? HH Gregg has one but I am not sure what their pricematch policy is (they are new to the area). Thanks!

Anyone have any input on how early to get there for the Toshiba? DH and I went to BB last night and they only showed 2 in stock. Surely they'll have more for next week, right? God I hope so!

Also, I bought a coupon on eBay for getting $10 in a gift card for every $100 you spend; is there any reason I can't combine that with best buy bucks? (ones a coupon, ones a tender, right?)

Thanks!

HDTV's will be popular this Black Friday but the LCD's will be more popular. I would guess 2AM?

We own a Toshiba 50" DLP and love it so far. Just make sure you have an HD video source like cable, satellite or an OTA antenna.

If you read the BBB fine print it will probably say it can't be combined with other offers. Unfortunately with the combination of BF, BBB and coupon they won't allow the coupon. There is always the exception, so it's worth a shot but I don't think it will work.

Thanks for the input! I was thinking 3 am, but I'm willing to go a bit earlier (just not 9pm, Thurs). I'll try to take advantage of all the deals I can, but if they say no, then I'll go with the gift card coupon. I'd still have a week or so to spend the bbb and with all my neices and nephews being teens now, I already do most of my Christmas shopping in BB. :)

I hear you about the Toshiba quality. I bought a 27" Toshiba 15 years ago when I worked at Incredible Universe and I have never had any problems with it. Still looks new! Our Zenith is another story and is the TV we're HOPING to replace. I'm just worried about that on-hand quantity. Hopefully we'll get one, and if we don't, well, hopefully there will be some other decent deals between now and the SuperBowl. :)

Justin - just remember that the cuter, smaller, lighter Toshiba uses a bulb - it will burn out. Usually at Super Bowl time. :) The Hitachi will still be running 10 years from now, with no extra expense on your part. Auto convergence, easy access to service menues makes the Hitachi CRT very versatile, and easy to setup.

tinibinab - you WERE right about Toshiba quality - 10 years ago they were great, equal to Sony in many aspects. Now Sony qc has gone downhill, and Toshibas are made in China, next to Funais, Orions, and Insignias. You may as well buy a BB house brand as pickup a Toshiba, if you are only considering build quality.

I am also going for the 51" Hitachi at BB. I just hope they have more then just a couple in stock. Just to be on the safe side I will be going around 2 -3 AM. I hope this is early enough. My second plan is to go to Sears to see if they will price match since it is a 2 day sale.

The HHGregg in my area is great about price matching, they call the other store get the price then match it or beat it. Since coming to the area I've found them to be the best to work with.
