best easy to use digital camera for my mom

Recommended Posts

I'd get her a Canon A530. http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B000EMU888/sr=8-1/qid=1162513092/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-1869605-7968024?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

It's reliable, easy to use, and comes with everything needed to get started. You will probably want to get her a larger Secure Digital Memory card to get her started, though. Last year for Christmas we go my MIL a Canon A520 (close to the same as the A530) and she is definitely not tech-savvy, but she uses it all the time now.

My MIL is 64, definitely not tech savvy and she uses a Kodak EasyShare C340. I think my SILs got it for her for around $100 last year. She likes it and it is easy for her to use. I agree about getting a larger memory card - my MIL takes pictures all the time, but has yet to go to WalMart or wherever and print off her pictures (since she got it almost a year ago!)

my mom is 67 years old and not very tech savvy. I want her to have a digital camera. it needs to be sinple and easy to use or she won't be able to use it...........I'd like to get for under $150

any suggestions?

Yeah that. This is the one my grandma just got and loves it, I had to set to autoflash, then Kids/pets mode (pretty good pictures no matter what you're shooting).

Kodak definitely is aimed at the beginner user, but I'd be very cautious with their entry level cameras. I've seen quality issues with Kodak camera pictures that start developing about a year into the life of their cameras, due to cheap photo sensors. The Canon A530 is a solid built camera that benefits from higher-end technology trickling down into their entry level cameras. Just a word from experience. My 5 year old Canon 2.1mp camera still takes better photos than my parents and granparents Kodak digital cameras take. Theirs are both 2 year old cameras, one entry level and one is mid-level.

I'll take your word for it you seem pretty sure of yourself. I'll keep an eye out for the cannon around black friday first maybe i can get a really good deal. I am also gonna get her a battery charger and like 8 rechargable batteries so she will not be buying batteries constantly. yep gonna get her a 1gb memory card when i see a hot deal. :)

thanks ALL for the help and suggestions

i got the olympus stylus 300 digital, it's a really nice it comes with a remote control so you can be in the pics as you take them, built in flash and you can hook it up to the comp to down load the pics and it can be recharged. you can change the size of the pics so you can take more but that does effect the pic a little. it's a little tech but not that hard to work. it takes great pics and it has a zoom button on it. i love it. i got it last yr from CC for $100.

I am looking for a camera for my kids (7 & 8), so I am looking for something easy to use also-I saw OfficeMax has a Kodak Easyshare C433 (4 megapixel with an accessory pack) for $79. They also have a 1GB SD memory card for $12.99- I just bought 1 for $20 and thought that was great! If anyone has any info on this camera I would love some feedback. Hope this helps!

I have a Kodak Easy Share and love it. I resisted buying a digital because I thought it would be too confusing for me. Found one on clearance and love it! So easy to use, menus are simple, pictures are great! My brother, sister and sister in law all have one too and they also love it!

Easy to use, and easy to upload and share pics too!

It's good. The camera I previously had was an HP Photosmart 3.1MP, and the Canon definitely shoots better than my old one. I like the quality of the photos and video. I think it's a great buy for the price.:)

Thank you but I was asking if you would click the following thread and post your review there, not here ;)

i'm a nurse and we use the kodak easyshare at work. they said it is the easiest for everyone to figure out. my mom also uses this camera and it does take pretty good pictures. if i were to get a new basic one i would probably purchase this one. it takes a little while for the picture to save after snapping it sometimes, but other then that i do like it.

Anyone know where to get the best deal on one of the Kodak Easy Share w/printer dock bundles is ? I thought I saw some on BF, but that was not an option for a gift at the time. Now, we have decided to give the MIL one for Christmas. To be honest with you, I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on this. I just want to find a bundle that is cheap and would be used mostly for snapshots.

Just an FYI, the photo printers are nice from a convenience standpoint. But honestly, it is less expensive to have someone else develop your pics for you. And I do tell prospective customers that if they are debating whether they want a photo printer.

The extra money you would be putting out for the photo printer could be used to buy a little better camera, or a docking station, which is nice for keeping the battery charged.

Also if you DO go with a bundle (or any camera), make sure that the camera that is included has an OPTICAL zoom. NOT just a digital zoom. Makes a big difference in the picture quality.
