I got this email from BB about an private reward zone member event. Since I have my card mailed to my address in Texas it lists Dallas locations. I wanted to give everyone the heads up on this event so they can check there emails as well. This event in Dallas is on Oct 22, 2006 7:30pm to 9:30pm.

I just got back from the event at one of the stores in the Chicago area and I can definitely say it was a major disappointment. I arrived early (about 6:50 PM for a 7:30 PM start time). At that time I was about 10th in line. The line quickly grew to about 200 - 300 by 7:30 PM. The temperature was in the 30s with a brisk wind. About 5 - 10 minutes before the event starts, the BB employees came out so you could fill out your information for the gift card drawing ($50 GC every 15 minutes - 8 drawings in all). Also the first 100 RZ members got a slip of paper that entitled them to the evenings giveaway - a RZ stainless steel travel mug (my approx value - about $5). Once you could enter the store, they had 12oz plastic bottles of Coke products for your enjoyment. After that it was just like shopping at BB any other time except that it was easy to find an employee to help you. The major problem? The deals! Or should I say, the LACK thereof. In fact, the only deal that I was aware of was is the 250 bonus points you got for every $100 you spent. And you knew that before you had even arrived because it was in the e-mail invite. There was nothing on sale just for the event. On my way out, I received a $2 BB GC by filling out a very short survey about the event. So unless you wanted some personal attention (which would be useful if you were in the market for a big TV, etc.) or had a large purchase in mind so you could score the bonus points, the event was a large :tired: .

Thanks for the update. I figured there wasn't going to be any special pricing over and above the normal sale items they have today. Sell your mug on eBay in about 30 years. It may be worth $10 by then. :)

:sidesplit

It is too bad because they got a ton of their most dedicated customers in the store and gave them no motivation to spend. They had this long queue set up to go checkout and it was virtually empty. Besides, I just got the e-mail on Wednesday 10/18 for the event. When i got the e-mail, was I thinking, "I think I'll go to Best Buy during a two hour special event a few days from now and do all of my research and drop three grand on a new HDTV so I can get a few bonus points?" I don't think so. I should note that the BB employees were great and the negative reaction that I have to this event does not reflect on the BB employees. I also believe this was a test run - I'll be happy to send some feedback to someone who has the authority to consider making changes.

Does sound like a waste of even going. Too bad they dont have better things for this.
