fulfam
I'm looking for something that has to do with music for my son he will be 2 right before christmas but does really well with lots of other toys that are geared for older kids. He loves music, dances and sings along to everything. I'm just not sure what to get. Anyone have any good ideas? I'm thinking some type of thing that plays music. mrn8
It might drive you crazy, but let him make his own music: http://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-488-Band-Box/dp/B00005RF5C/sr=1-3/qid=1161026048/ref=sr_1_3/102-3460823-8746550?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games

AndreaInNC
Only give the above if you will let your child use them - lol. I made the mistake of buying them without realizing how loud they were .. and they can be noisy .. TRU has a bunch of beginner type instruments .. this one is really cute http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2308728&cp

shopping mom
We have gotten the Fisher Price FP 3 player for our 3 year old she loves stories and songs as well. Have you seen the new learn to play the piano from fisher price? It might be worth looking into. I am not sure of the ages though.

She loved it. I got the stories on CD so she could go to sleep with them and of course it plays any kind of music you like. I've always felt like it was a good investment. I think it was around 70 at Best Buy.

Right now he sleeps in my room.
pogiporkchop
If you want relatively inexpensive music toys, try checking the private label WalMart (Kid Connection) and Kmart (Just Kidz, I think) toys. I browsed them with my kids and saw some nice items that would be just right for your son. And if they break... well, you didn't spend a lot on them :)
Trish1298
My four year old has a full size piano, and my 2 2 year olds sure love to play the piano. Ok may not be too practical for a 2 yearolds gift, but they really love it.
dmmiller
They have those musical mats out now, they look like pianos, and they can sit on the floor and play or even dance on them. Saw one on the ToysRus site for about $40.

whitesocks
Fisher Price has a personal mp3 player at Wal-Mart and I am sure at other stores. It is about $60.00 at Wal-Mart. It has headphones I don't know the age it is set for but it is Fisher Price and they are usually durable. If you get anything that is electronic always make sure that it has a volume switch or a headphone connection.
Stowasser
how about kids karaoke, don't know if they make them for one that young. I see lots of musical type toys in the kids dept though, all these ideas are great!
amyers12345
My 2 year old LOVES her fisher price star station. It is a durable video camera with special effects that sits on top of your television. It has several kid tough cartridges that each have 4 songs. The microphone really works and has buttons to change the effects. You can also record to video or dvd. It retails for $54.88 at Walmart, but make sure you buy duracell or energizer batteries. It drains the cheap ones in minutes.
dblg
We got this for my daughter when she turned 2 as well "Parents Magazine - Bee Bop Band" It has a bit of everything in it, I did "lose" the drum sticks for the drums every now and then. Overall it was a great hit with her. http://www.amazon.com/Parents-Magazine-Bee-Bop-Band/dp/B000H28FKS/sr=11-1/qid=1162494065/ref=sr_11_1/002-6997417-1532808
