If you buy the hard drive and an external enclosure yourself, you can usually get a 4yr+ warranty with it.

 

These external enclosures come with instructions, so even if you aren't familiar with hardware, it is VERY simple to do yourself.

You only get a 1yr warranty for that, if you rather have the 500gb model it is an extra $10 at buy.com (still a 1yr warranty) > using this link via pricegrabber saves you an extra $15
