My son always sees this on tv. I have looked at them and there seems to be alot of different things to buy for it. So my question is where do I begin? Is there a starter kit? Do all the themes have track pieces with them? I am so lost LOL.

and then added more.

It all depends on your son's preference and how big you want it.

I want to get him some elevation track packs as well, but I really don't have anywhere for him to set it up at this time.

Toys R Us has Buy 2 get 1 free this week and the website has free shipping. Here is a link..http://www.toysrus.com/searchHandler/index.jsp?searchId=2502345&type=trigger&promoId=2502345

Geotrax are great for kids. It's a bit different than when I bought it, but the first one pictured above (Workin' Town Railway) is the best to start with. It's got a bit of everything. Pay close attention to what you're buying, though. Not all engines are motorized.

I hope you're also reading the "Geotrax buy 2 get 1 free!" thread!!!

The GeoTrax page isn't all that great, but it does give you a list of products as well as track layouts.

There are a couple of different starter packs available. Target, TRU, etc. all have one in-store. Then, the possibilities are pretty much endless lol. My niece got the gas station for her birthday last year. So, after that one of the starter packs was purchased for her pretty much the next day lol. She'd get one new piece every week, or a couple of times a week for a while there. There are only a few pieces out right now that she doesn't have.

NOTE: Different stores have different pieces available, so shop around at your local TRU, Target, WM, Kmart, Kohls, etc.

My son has one, my aunt and he have a 'train' room. That thing is huge!! she has bought every set to go with it. One place we have found the pieces cheap is at Gordman's. Also, our Walmart has some on clearance now. My DD2 plays with it now too. She bought the initial set on Amazon, it had several bonus items with it. (I think that was when TRU partnered w/ them though).

He is now seven and it sits in a tub, I don;t think he really liked trains, but then again he also has all the imagineX too and they sit in a tub too.

Same thing here!! I feel like I wasted so much, but he wanted it!
