HanShotFirst Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 So I need thoughts please and thank you. I’ve decided I need (and want) an Apple Watch for my new job. Does anyone have any thoughts on which version might get a discount for Black Friday? I don’t need the latest and greatest so looking at the SE. I was so hoping Best Buy would have one in their pre-BF sale happening now and I could be done with it but no. Do you think it might be in their actual BF sale? I’ve got a $150 BB gift card and could buy one today and have it in my hands today, just wondering if I should or chance the wait for their BF ad? What about sale price if it is the SE version? Major discount or just ~$50? Any thoughts/comments appreciated.
Kanyon71 Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 My guess is the 6 will have some sales. No idea what yet but the 7 is just coming out so I don’t expect any discounts on that. Going to be buying a watch for my wife so hoping for some good deals also. 1
jesusluvu Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 I got the version 4 I believe from Walmart last year for $150. My DD loves it 2
packratfamily Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 (edited) I got a series 3 a while after it came out because it is waterproof to wear in the pool (and I do, but it isnt for soapy dishwater)I gave my series 1 to DH who can bang it around at work. After series 3, I believe the watches got slightly bigger, which may or may not be an issue for you. ( I lack gorilla wrists, so am not replacing mine anytime soon. ) I am a big fan of the Apple refurb and clearance store (scroll all the way down to the bottom of the Apple store page) But the 3 is still for sale brand new. I dont know how the SE compares with the others. Fyi, ymmv. Happy shopping. PS bought a lot of nice knock off watch bands on eBay.ps Also was unsure about buying a large, pricey watch but I love it, wear it every day and it encourages me to move more (a setting choice). ljvoskuil Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 I don’t know much about the Apple watches, but I am hoping to find one on sale that I can use Wi-Fi with so I can still use my watch without having my phone nearby. The one I have now only lets me get phone calls and messages if my phone is with me 1

HanShotFirst Posted October 22, 2021 Author Posted October 22, 2021 For those that have them, do you have one with the “always on display”? Do you like it? I know it can drain the battery quicker but will it at least last the day? If I’m going to use it as a watch will that be a deal breaker for the SE? I don’t mind lifting up my phone to engage the screen but do I really want to do that with a watch? So many decisions. LolIs 3 the only waterproof one or just when it started?Im thinking it was when it started. 2
ytmomof4 Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 I also have the 3 and love it. The display isn’t always on and not sure if that’s I setting I just don’t have set up but I’m sure that on the ones that do have that option you should be able to turn it off in the settings. The only time you don’t is if you have used WiFi in a certain place and your watch is connected to that WiFi. Unless something has changed

I just keep mine in theater mode and then the display works just like the older versions. I just tap to see the time or read messages. I really like it. I upgraded from the 2. 2

A full charge will last about a day and a half. Just for reference, I charged my watch fully yesterday morning and put it back on about 9:30am. It is now 10:45am the next day and I'm at 34%. It also charges pretty fast. 1

They have to get the power to run all those processors and it ends up eating batteries.

The cellular only works with the 3 major carriers. And it is $10./ month, last I knew. I will not pay $85/month for a cell plan. My ST is about $37 with tax. end rant
