AliJ Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 My 12 year old wants an HTC Vive, um, no, I don't think so! But the Oculus Go at $199 is doable. Question - due to the price difference, I'm assuming the Oculus Go is very limited, correct? He would want to play games primarily. Thinking that perhaps the VR for playstation may be the better route, but I read that has been discontinued, so thinking that may not be a wise choice after all. This is also for a boy who is prone to breaking things, so durability would have to be a main factor! Are there any other VR headsets out there that are both affordable and have a good selection of games?? Any thoughts on whether we'll see deals for any of the above mentioned VR sets??
jesusluvu Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 Following this one. I might be in this market after reading a few threads. 1
dakotadenise Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 My 13 year old son wants the Oculus Rift. Initially I said it was over budget, but he countered with - its the only present he will ask for, yada, yada, so will probably go with that. I am hoping for a deal, but not expecting one. Not that I want another CC, but I see you can get $75 off for getting a rewards card.
bluebear Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Last year there was something my son wanted that I wasn't expecting to be on sale anywhere. I was pleasantly surprised to find it $50 off on Thanksgiving morning. By the evening that discount had shrunk, but was still a discount. This year he possibly wants an Oculus Rift as well. So I plan to check Amazon early Thanksgiving and hope! Other son wants Sony VR. But Target has that one in their ad, so I at least know something about that one.
Dylansmommy Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Following. I may consider one for my son if there is a good deal.

I was curious about the VR for the PS4. There is a second version of the VR. So, maybe the first version is what you are seeing as being discontinued. I would be curious what the version that's on sale for BF. I can't see the model number in the picture; it's way too blurry. I think I'm headed in that direction instead of the Oculus. He also said that he read that the VR will be compatible with the PS5 when it's released. 1

I just saw all of the discontinued bundles on Amazon. So, there's two versions of the VR? Anyone know what version is in the Target ad?? Would they sell a discontinued item on BF??
bluebear Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 The one in the ad is the current bundle from what I can tell. It also says that other PlayStation VR bundles will be $100 off. 1

Dylansmommy Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 The one on BF will be the current VR set for $249? I believe so. The 2.0 came out in 2017. I'm hoping when the print ads come out, the model number will be more clear. 1

dakotadenise Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 Got an email from Amazon that the Oculus Rift was at $349, clicked on it right away and its not available. Ugh.
bluebear Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 (edited) It's $349 at Best Buy right now. I think until Sunday, as part of their black Friday preview. Edited November 9, 2018 by bluebear
dakotadenise Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 It's $349 at Best Buy right now. I think until Sunday, as part of their black Friday preview. Yes, I saw this, and I'm considering getting it from there, but I was going to try to get another $70 off applying for their rewards Visa (then cancelling it because who needs another credit card!). I also think Amazon might be easier to deal with if I have to return or have questions. Not sure though, haven't done much business with Best Buy. 1
bluebear Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 I understand.Every time they taunt me with that $70 credit I have to resist... Argh. I expect that Amazon will have it at $349 again on Thanksgiving, they are always good at price matching. But at least with Best Buy you can get rewards points if you're a member. So that's something to fall back on if needed. 1
bluebear Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 (edited) Amazon has the Oculus Rift back in stock and still $349. Edited November 11, 2018 by bluebear 1
bluebear Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 Hooray! I wish my person would make up his mind so I could go ahead and get that done too! 1
Dylansmommy Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 One thing I hadn't considered when looking into VR was the recommended age. I have an 11 year old, and the Oculus Rift is recommended for 13+. The PSVR is recommended for 12+, but my son turns 12 at the beginning of January, so I feel more comfortable with going with the playstation. So after comparison shopping, I think the best deal will be through Target @ $249 with 5% off. 1
