He has worked for 6 months and saved enough to buy one if we can find a really good deal. Problem is, I know NOTHING about computers. He loves gaming with his friends when he does finally get some down time. Can anyone help me out on what I need to even be looking for, AND a great price for one as well. Thanks

What type of price range are you looking to stay in and do you know any titles of games he likes to play? Will help us in showing you machines as they can get VERY expensive when it comes to gaming.

Check out the Alienware Aurora on the Dell site. If you take the standard Aurora and not the New you can get a nice setup. Alienware is more expensive then some others but by and large they are good machines built with hardware meant to game on. I went and checked on some prices and you can get either of their top 2 configs the config using the nVidia 1070 is $1249 and the config using the nVidia 1080 is a little over at $1399.

Now you can get as much or more machine if you want to build your own but for pre-built these are pretty good machines.

My son has an Aurora and he LOVES it. He also saved up some money for his, plus we "bought" his 1 year old Alpha. The one he got was about $1700, but it was brand new then, and probably had most of the top things.

Since Dell bought Alienware they aren't up to the standards they used to be according to my oldest who is 32. My youngest who is 20 bought a Dell for 600. It isn't a great gaming computer but it works for him and has a 3 year warrenty. My older sons Alienware didn't last 2 or 3 years

I'm not sure I would say they aren't the same standards they are still head and shoulders above standard Dell. I prefer to build my own but that's not something everyone cares to do. I would be interested to know what died in his Alienware. I think like most anything out there no matter the brand you can have issues.
