How do you decide? Buy now or wait for Black Friday

I am thinking about getting one of me DDIL's a Vera Wang purse from Kohls. She saw it recently and liked it. If it goes on sale BF will I get it for a better price is always the question that drives me crazy :runaway:

So how do you decide. I check last years ad but that brand is not shown. I am not trying to be cheap but with a large family the budget is limited and I want to get the most bang for my buck and get them things they would really like :gdclap:

The hardest part is trying to decide lol....I am always looking for a deal so I try to wait for Black Friday to see if I can get a better deal with a coupon, door buster and so forth. But if it’s a hot ticket item especially a toy or game that I know may be hard to find, I will usually just go ahead and buy it so I don’t miss out on it.

Everything I have bought so far is not going to be on sale for less.  Either I got things on clearance or with a coupon already.  I am holding off on anything that could be less on BF unless it would be an easy return.  I am hoping for some good laptop deals in the next 2 weeks based on prior years deals.

I would buy now.  Kohl's has a great return policy so if you find it cheaper later on, return the more expensive one.

Once in the return window, I usually buy when the item is at a price I am willing to pay.  If by chance I find it cheaper later on, I return the higher priced one.

This would have been my response as well. I buy as I go and already know the original price and gauge the discounted price and if it is a BF typical item. Once  know that I move accordingly and if it is a must have item I may buy it to be sure I get it and if I can get it cheaper before Christmas I will just take the higher price one back. A lot of work but hey thats the fun of it all.

I was just saying today that this is a crappy time of year where you never know if something you want now is going to be a better price later on. Of course, the first thing I do is check last year's ad to see what the previous sale is. For Kohl's, if you have the 30% (or the 40% mystery coupon on the last day), I think that's worth it. There's also the $15 Kohl's cash to consider. That makes waiting for BF a little more worth while. Kohl's will price adjust within 14 days and will accept a return for cash back within 12 months - no receipt needed if you use your Kohl's charge. So you kind of can't go wrong if you buy now, even if it goes on sale later.

Last year I found a TV at Best Buy the week or two before BF and was a better brand for about $20 or so more than what the one I was eyeing on BF. I decided to buy it instead of having to deal with the craziness of TV shopping on BF. Sometimes it's worth not having to worry about it on BF.

It all depends on what the item is. If I am not sure it will be available BF due to limited supply, color wise or size wise then I will opt to get it early especially if it's a must have.

This is what I was going to say.  Remember, Kohl's is the kind of store that doesn't always have the exact same items in stock. So, if it's gone it could be gone for good.

Toys I always buy throughout the year on clearance, and I also do the layaway plan that TRU offers each year, so I don't have to worry about catching a deal on BF.  I then turn my focus on me which leaves me to get those items that I need for the home or just a "want" item for myself on BF.  I also try to get little gadgets and things for my husband too.

Some things go on sale as cheap now as Black Friday. If it is something that is really useful to have before Black Friday that looks like a good price and probably will not go cheaper on Black Friday, get it now. Some stores/credit cards will let you return the item or report a lower price and give you back the difference in price so you can buy now and worry less about the price going lower. But if a store offers a price with a gift card or store cash or something similar it will probably make the price lower overall so waiting might pay off. If it is a must have toy or limited edition item you better buy it when you see it and not risk missing out while trying to find a lower price. Same if you want multiples of the same item for multiple gifts because Black Friday deals are often limited to 1 per person and may not be back in stock after Black Friday.

If I'm right, many clothing and accessory stores offer gift cards or points based on the purchases made on any items even if it was not a sale item. In most cases I stick to electronics, and often anything that breaks I will wait until Black Friday unless it is something I can not wait for. I had a TV die about a month ago, but I am waiting till next month to replace it.

I just put a Nintendo Switch on layaway @ Wal-Mart because I have been looking for one at ALL of the Wal-Mart's in my area for over a month and they were always out...my plan was to buy one @ Target once my holiday account was transferred to my checking account next week and use my target debit card for the 5% savings...didnt want to chance it and putting it on layaway also freed up cash for BF...if it goes on sale BF @ WM then I will get it out that weekend, but if not I will still have the one gift my oldest son requested...

I agree with everyone here. The return windows are longer now, so I would by now and if it goes on sale - great, take back the higher priced one. If not, you got the item you wanted at a good price. It's hard not to second guess yourself during this time of the year.

Depending on the cost of it we will usually buy it if it seems like a good deal then if someone has it a decent amount cheaper buy that one and return the first. We have even done it with some of the more expensive items.

Last year we ended up with 10 scooters from Target because I was able to get them a good amount cheaper on BF. Was fun dragging back 5 of them :)
