mcwalker Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 A little surprising since other retailers are increasingly expanding their free shipping offer (even if they haven't reached the $25/$35 minimum order level yet). Many of my Amazon orders would be over $35 anyway and for me this mainly means trying to bundle orders into $35 groups (of free shipping items), rather than paying $79 per year for Amazon Prime after a 30 day trial.
Brad Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I wonder if they'll increase Prime anytime soon. Going from $79 to $99/year seems realistic. I use it so much I'd pay twice that
magickallight Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 (edited) I think their new "Add on Program" will cause a lot of people to drop Prime completely (unless of course you are a die hard Amazon shopper like me!)... Still irritates me, though! Edited October 22, 2013 by magickallight 2
Iliveforblckfri Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 One this to remember as we get closer to Christmas, if you need something as a gift, the free shipping items are at the bottom of the queue for Amazon to work on. I had a book that I chose free shipping on. If I had paid for shipping, it would have gone out the next day. Since I chose free shipping, it didn't leave Texas for a week. Just a note of caution.
tyreejames Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I've had prime for several years now and I haven't come across too many of the add on items yet. Last week I did though (rainbow loom bands) but I just found another selection that was available. I order from them too much to consider dropping prime and needing to hit $35 for free shipping. If they increased prime to 99 it would be worth it to me.
Brad Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 With the Add-on items, what I do is order something like a Blu-ray movie that is a preorder and won't ship anytime soon to get your total above $25. They'll ship the add-on items right away and then you can just cancel whatever preorder you ordered. They might eventually "fix" this, but I've done it 3-4 times already with no problems at all. 9

Kim3498 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Another thing to remember is when you are shopping the lighting deals you have to be pretty quick on checkout. I missed out on deals 2 years ago because i didnt want to fork over shipping cost and didnt have time to find more items that i actually wanted to equal the 25.00 minimum for free shipping. It was much easier last year with Prime. I'm sure I saved that $79.00 back and then some during that time, not even considering all the orders I have placed throughout the year. 1

jaymacfla Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Not a big fan of this price increase. They must be wearing their bravado hats to expect more when others in the industry are coming down to help the consumer.
peppysfireball Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 You can also just open a new account and get a free prime trial. I have 5 accounts, ONe for my son, one for me, one for my grandkids tablets, etc. I just get a free prime trial on the one available currently and send a free invite to m y main account. I haven't paid for prime in years.

I haven't paid for prime in years. Is free prime trial still an option, I was just thinking about that this morning? I'm going there now I'm not very amused with Amazon after they changed the goldbox page, it's impossible to find new deals without scrolling through all 60+ pages. How easy would it be to throw in a sort by newest like they used to have. I'm not usually stuck in my ways I just don't see ANY benefit in this new setup. I don't know that I'd renew prime if I wasn't getting it for free. Without being able to find impulse buys I see my ordering lessening other than during BF time. 1
tinkrbel Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Not amused. Prime is only 30 days right now and Amazon Mom while 90 days appears to be tied to CC billing address and won't allow me to regsiter with another email.
jade2002 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Ssshh! Don't tell them that. (They are listening--or at least the NSA is listening.) I agree, lol.

tinkrbel Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) so then...now that my BFF sorted my 2nd prime slot... Do we think there will be less competition on BF/CM now that free shipping has increased? ppl seem pretty upset on the Amazon discussion forums. Edited October 24, 2013 by tinkrbel
gbeenie Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 People are upset because they're babies. Just get Prime and stop crying (if you're a student, you can get a free year of Prime, followed by half-price membership every year you're still in school after that). 2

jaymacfla Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Just because someone disagrees with the new shipping policy doesn't mean that they aren't any less saavy than you are. Without constructive complaints, we would never have productive changes that benefit all consumers. With the new change, you will obviously lose some customers. Others will just find other means to make the deal work in their favor. Amazon is not in it to lose out this season, so there are going to be some very strange fillers to augment your shopping taste. I liked the Mod's example, but believe that Amazon will push quite a few Blurays out the door in the $3-$5 range to turn some heads. They really excell at price-matching, so consider sending them frequent messages to get that item at a lower competitive price.
gbeenie Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 It's simply a disincentive to dissuade customers from NOT having Amazon Prime. At the same time, they offer a number of benefits besides the shipping to encourage people to go Prime (they now have a Kindle Lending Library, where Prime members can read books without having to buy them).
jamieva Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 All it is is another incentive to get you to sign up for Prime. And prime is worth it. 2
peppysfireball Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I have never paid for prime. I have quite a few amazon accounts and I just get a free prime trial on one and send an invite to my main account. Every 13 months you can get another trial, so I just keep moving to a different account. When it expires I don't sign up for a new one until i need something from amazon. Just signed up a new one last week that will get me through my majority of shopping 1

nat1jen Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 I think their new "Add on Program" will cause a lot of people to drop Prime completely (unless of course you are a die hard Amazon shopper like me!)... Still irritates me, though! I totally agree with you! I have picked so many items to buy that are "add-ons". I don't understand the perk of Prime if I can't buy those items unless I have a bigger order. It's the principle behind it that bugs me. I still have to have a minimum that is the same total to get free shipping if I didn't have prime. Hmmmm.
