Ziptar Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Got The Hynix Stick I bought on ebay Today.. Installed it and booted it up. BIOS Recognized it and set the Video RAM to 128MB automatically. Makes a huge difference screens just pop instantly now. Overall speed and boost is very noticeable, much quicker than before. I ran CPUID and it doesn't pull up anything in the Memory Tab but 1024MB, other than that its blank. I downloaded Sisoft Sandra and it shows 1 Channel, Sandra Also shows that I have 1GB installed and that no Ram is shared with the Video so, Don't know is that's right either. The DDR2 SODIMM I got is Identical to the stock one. Looks exactly like it, has the same part number and the production date of the two are only two weeks apart according to the SPD tab in CPUID. So I dunno if it's Dual Channeling or not, I need to try some other utilities maybe. The extra 512MB is very noticeable though.
89MustangGX Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I got mine today as well. I installed it and got the same results from the same utilities as you ran, exactly the same, except mine is the Kingston chip. I did notice that in Sandra it lists the original chip as a 32x16 while it lists the Kingston as a 64x8. I thought this would probably make a difference so I went ahead and ordered another Kingston to see what happens. I also noticed that Sandra reports the original chip as being in two separate 256mb banks (6 & 7) which is really strange, but later reports it as a single 512mb chip. Not sure what that means anyway since there are only two banks... I did call Toshiba and ask and all they could tell me is that it should happen automatically and they don't know of any way for me to actually tell if it's in dual channel mode or not. I would think yours should be dual channel but mine I am not so confident about (because of the different chip configurations). Once I get this other chip I'll just sell the original one so it won't hurt so bad in my wallet. I just wish I could find a utility that will definitively tell us -- lets keep this thread updated so we can figure this out.
protege2003 Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 So has anyone figured out how to tell if it is running in dual channel mode or not? I am interested in doing this upgrade but was waiting to see what people had to do in order to get it to work in dual channel. (ie. can I find something close or do I need to match the stock stuff exactly) Thanks, Chris
89MustangGX Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 I've been looking everywhere and I can't find a utility that will identify it as dual channel BUT, I also can't find a utility that will fully read the chipset either. I think it may be fine and it's just a case of it not being read by the utilities as such yet.
