nik3t Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 My desktop PC doesn't have a wirelss desktop card installed so I need to buy that this friday at BB. I was looking at the Netgear Super G Wireless Router and Card - $29.98 AR deal. Can anyone tell me if that is a good brand or not? I've heard good things about Linksys but since I don't have a wireless desktop card there would be no use in buying just a router thats for sale on Friday at BB. Inormation: I will be using it to go online on my PSP. I only have one desktop computer so im not sure if i am going to need the router or not to go online on the PSP. Another question i have is if I install the wireless card in my PCI slot thing and get it to work would that make my house Wi-Fi enabled? I'm not too good with this wireless networking stuff. And does anyone happen to know what the actual price is before rebates? Thanks in advace. And sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, I'm new here. Great site too btw. :)
sunkisses Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 Hum how do u find out if yoru puter has a wireless desktop card installed. I knew I needed a router to hook up 2 computers, but didn't think about the cards. Do I need 2 cards for 2 computers?
grapico Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 yeah that super g is a pretty good one, if you can't find one cheaper... several of my friends picking it up... linksys *is* probably better, i have the wrt54g which if you find on sale is a very good router and has hackable firmware to tweak it to the max., but for the money, plus it will be able to use it awhile as it is enhanced "G" you should be good to go... as long as it doesn't drop packets or something should be fine.

And im not too sure but that's the one you put the ram sticks in right? Sorry im not too good with this stuff. Oh and its $160 before rebates.
RossMAN Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 Linksys, D-Link and Netgear are all good brands. Buy whatever 802.11g router is cheapest.
civicracinggirl7 Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 Linksys :) Desktop wireless cards will have an antenna coming out of the back of the tower.
bigjimslade Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 I love Netgear. I have used them for many years and have had no problems. I just got my self the new Netgear MIMO wireless router and it is so powerful and no dead spots. Netgear is the best way to go in my book.
stevens322 Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 If one or both of your computers are near the router you do not need a wireless card. The routers have 4 ports for wired network connections. Most computers already come with a network card installed. All you would need is a cable.
