DH has never gone. When the kids were younger he kept them home. But most are grown and love to go and my DD9 went last and loved it. She was really fun to have along. (with our large family spread out through different stores I am able to shop for her too). My co workers have no desire to go and they tease me about memorizing the ads but they give me money so I can pick up stuff for them (if possible) My MIL always ask if there is anything on the kids list that I can pick up for her too.

My daughter is 9 and has been begging me to go, she can't wait. I'm holding out for another year or 2, I'm excited to take her along, but I don't know if she has the stamina quite yet :)

lol. My sister has been inviting me for Thanksgiving since she got married and I think I've made it only once, all the other times I was already on line by the time.

LOL. How did she take it that you RATHER stand in line ?

Pretty much everyone I know! LOL. I have relatives that get into it but they live on the other side of the country and obviously don't shop with me. I end up texting them while standing in line at midnight to pass the time since they're the only ones up. Everyone near me is very "anti-commercialism" so for some reason, abstaining from shopping on that one day is going to make a statement? I don't get it. Those same people are still going to do their Christmas shopping at a later point.

My in-laws are anti black THURSDAY! They were quite miffed that I headed out Thursday evening to start my shopping. I don't know what the big whoop was. It was well after dinner was over. And we were there all weekend so it's not like I was taking away from family time. I was going out SOME time anyway. I think it may be a thing about supporting sales on a holiday when people should be home with their family. I've always respected that and never did the Kmart Thanksgiving day sale, but by 10 pm Thanksgiving is pretty much done in my opinion. I hope it doesn't get much earlier though!

I've enjoyed going in past years. But last year with the Thanksgiving night start times I had no fun whatsoever. So I won't be going this year unless I can waltz in in the morning and find the item still there. No deal is worth the sore back and boring lines I stood in last year. Does that make me anti-Black Friday?

 

Last year there were some pretty good deals in the weeks leading up to Black Friday. Hoping to see the same this year and perhaps even get my whole list done before Thanksgiving.

My Aunts are soooo anti-BF...Every Thanksgiving it's the same thing. After dinner I gather up the ads to make my final plans. They sit there and tell me how crazy I am....They can't believe I would wait out in the cold in the wee hours of the morning. Then I show them some of the prices and then they say "Oh wow..that's a pretty good deal." Then the continue on how crazy I am..lolol..gotta love them!

I can't get my wife to go with me on BF, no matter what. She doesn't mind me heading out and grabbing up some deals, but HATES the crowds. Might be slightly agoraphobic, but the crowds and even the thought of getting bumped around by a greedy shopper makes her celebrate the day with a book, blanket, and hot cocoa on our couch.

My parents were always anti-commercialism on the Thanksgiving weekend, so I didn't get into Black Friday until 2006 (when I was in my late 40s).

 

I don't think that stores should open until at least midnight (or later) after Thanksgiving (and I know that a lot of others agree with me), so that makes me "anti-Black-Thursday."

Ditto! Although, I prefer the 4-5am opening times!

The ones that kill me are the grumpy ones that think people who go out and shop, ruin the holidays. Most act like it is beneath them to go out amongst the crowds, which really isn't bad where I live.

 

Then there are the ones at Thanksgiving dinner who, after listening to others bash BF, will start acting all indignant if they get asked if they are going BF shopping, like somehow it's cool if they denounce it. Then just before you head out, they will ask if you could pick up a couple things for them. -Sure, it was fun watching you all laugh at us 'idiots' as we made our plans with ads all over the place.

 

Hey, nothing wrong with saving money and being able to buy extra gifts for your family and friends.

my entire family is into bf...then both my sisters married men who totally put it down.. and actually attempt to insult us all...

well well i bet one bro in law..for a ride..he actually stuck it out...waited in line...helped run through the store for items..ect.. this year he actually admitted he not only tolerated it but ENJOYED it... though he still wont go out again. he said maybe with me he would...or he feels he will be lost.

We experienced a lot of people this year who, after seeing the news report, went to Best Buy and complained to management about us! They made some pretty ignorant comments and stereotypical ones at that! Our number one question this year was, "How much are the tents?" Thes are obviously not the 'Haters" but inquisitive people looking for, you guessed it, tents. During one of the last interviews, the subject came up, and I told the reportee that the media was to blame for all of the hating. She asked why. I replied that when you put a headline "Black Friday Madness" and have a reporter say to the audience, that "You don't want to know what I think, because they are right behind me." it is easy to draw a conclusion from the report that we Campers are to be viewed as crazies, or whackos. Crazy allright, crazy like a fox! Next year, you will see our tents with a big sign saying, "NO MEDIA, BLACK FRIDAY MADNESS DISEASE INSIDE...STAY AWAY.....HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS".

The first year I did Black Friday I was in college about 5 years ago and literally just went out for cheap DVDs (hey I was a poor college kid)! My mom thought I think I might have gone to 1 store alone but then my mom met me at Target or something. She didn't have anything to do and didn't seem to care. I remember we saw some old friend at Target when we went to pay and it said, "OMG I really hope you didn't venture out this early for just that 1 DVD!" I just lied and said no they were out of what we really wanted. Which was half true they were out of the other dvds i wanted hahahahaha

 

Since then almost every year my mom and I and sometimes my sister would venture out for random deals. We didn't get real serious until 2009 when we stood in line for a few hours for the 32 inch Emerson TV at Walmart. Since then we have done it every year. We don't have any family we visit on Thanksgiving so it's not a big deal. PLUS My mom, my sister and I, are TOGETHER...spending way more QUALITY TIME together than we are at home on our computers.

 

I have PLENTY of friends, coworkers, family that think we are nuts but I don't care. We don't make a lot of money so we need to save every chance we can get.
