harperjn
I want to buy my cousin a leapfrog for christmas. She will be 2 in February. I have no idea what learning level she is at now. Will the "My first leappad alphabet bus" be too advanced for her? It says ages 3-5yrs. My concern with getting the "Little Touch LeapPad" is that she will grow out of out very soon. As you can probably tell, I am not a mother and have no idea about kids. Thanks for your help.
ReillyCheyenne
The bus might work for her as long she has somebody there beside her helping her out. You really don't want to buy the LittleTouch b/c I bought it for my nephew when he was 2 and he didn't play with it once. Luckly i can hand it down to my daughter who is 2 mths old, she'll get more use out of it. I know it's not on sale but the My First LeapPad is also good.:) I also work at ToysRUs if that helps
harperjn
Thanks so much for the advice! I was hesitant about getting the littletouch, now I definitely won't. I didn't know the alphabet bus and my first leapPad were two different things. Is one any better than the other? Are there more books for the First LeapPad? jenbui
My daughter will be 2 in February and just loves the My First Leap Pad when we are in the stores. I believe that the bus and the blue & pink My First Leap Pads are the same, just different versions of the same thing. I think my daughter's getting it for her birthday. brownlands
My 15 month old has the Little Touch Leap Pad and honestly he does not play with it at all. In fact, I think the books are to easy for little hands to tear up anyway. Go with the bus.
laura8773
The bus is better. My twins loved the bus but hardly played with the pad.
ReillyCheyenne
No the bus is just a yellow bus that has the alphabet buttons on it and it does all kinds of things, like sounds and words that start with that letter. The My First LeapPad is just like the big LeapPad it reads ,teaches the letters etc.. You would do better getting the My First LeapPad it will last longer. Also everyone has the books on sale and if I am not mistaken Kohl's has a My First LeapPad giftset on sale, you might want to look into that. Hope this helped. imjustagirl
The bus is cute...but personally... I would get either My first LeapPad, Fridge Phonics, Lovable Lily, or Little Leap (Lovable Lily and Little Leap are stuff animals that talk/sing). bigsnyder
My son has loved his "Little Touch LeapPad" He has had it for about two years, and is almost three. He doesn't spend as much time with it now that he did up until about a month ago, but he still uses it. My wife and I are getting the "My First LeapPad" for him this Xmas. There are two very important points to keep in mind with either of these products. First, don't be stingy with the "books". The more material there is to use , the better it will hold their interest. Many popular books such as Dr. Suess have received the leappad treatment, so works as a great tie-in to reading real books. The "Little Touch" library unfortunately is not as big as I would have liked (My First LeapPad library is better), but still several titles available. Second important point, these products are designed to be used with a parent/adult, not the child by him or herself. Think of it more as an educational tool than a toy (just don't tell your child that . Once they get advanced enough, they certainly can use it more independently. My son has been able to use his "Little Touch" by himself for a few months now. I also highly recommend "Fridge Phonics". My son loved learning his letters with this toy. The letters from this can also be used with the "Word Whammer" toy to great more words. This is also on my son's xmas list. The leapfrog DVD series is not bad either. crix101
I agree on the fridge phonics. This is what I am getting for my god daughter, she is 18 mo and for my son, 3yrs old. It is great because they can sit on the floor and do that activity while you are doing dinner or homework with an older sibling. That way they are not off somewhere else but you can still be involved in what they are doing. JMO.
kalle1212
I have a two year old and I would never waste money on the leap pad products only because my older son and all of my friends kids got them one year and they are never, never used. When they are toyed with the kids give up because they end up touching too many buttons and it never finishes a sentence. But his big present this year will be the fisher price pop onz table. I also agree, the fridge alphabet and numbers or the barnyard fridge magnet set would be great for a two year old. The song is kinda catchy too.! Jennifer0530
The original My First Leappad and the new My First Leappad Bus are the same product basically. Both use the same books and cartridges, but the bus has the alphabet and some other earlier phonics features that you don't have to have a book or cartridge to use. Your best best would be the bus! More features for the same price! Also, if your cousin likes to draw and/or color alot then don't go with the touch button leappad. We got one for our daughter and she wouldn't use it cause it doesn't have a pen like her brothers does.

shopping mom
My daughter got the My First Leap pad last Christmas before she turned 2. She has played with it everyday. i can see how she has developed listening skills, and she now recognizes alot of letters and sounds. I bought 4 new books from TRU (BOGO) for this Christmas. I am thinking about getting the fridge phonics for her this year.
