kristib Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 I hope someone can help me. I'm so confused about which to get. I have two kids, a 7 yr old boy and a 5 yr old girl. We need a dvd player for the car. Do I want one dvd player w/ dual screens that stays in the car like in the Walmart BF ad? The plus side of this would be I would control the dvd they watch and the screens would be attached to the seats. No forgetting to bring them. Or do I want two 7" portable dvd players that they can take in and out of the car. (They already have reg tv/dvd in their rooms) This way they could each watch whatever dvd they want. No fighting. Plus they could take them camping/etc. Do they sell things to hook the portable dvd players to the seats. I really would like to just leave them in the car so they don't get all grungy and they are always right there...no getting lost. So, what would you guys do? I'll be headed to Walmart on BF to buy one of these...just not sure which would be the best. Any advice? Thanks so much!! Kristi

My kids love 2 fight over which dvd they are gonna watch.
JanaBanana Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 I would buy the one that stays in the car with 2 screens
t_mulkey Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Ditto kristib. I have 3 boys though. I too like the idea of them being attached to the seat. I am leaning towards individual DVD players to stop the fighting before it begins. But then one will probably have the DVD the others want. If they do make a case for the portable ones that will attach to the seats, I think I may go that way. Decisions!
ebony0421 Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 I would get them something that separates so that they can watch whatever they want to watch. I don't know about anyone else, but I've had the "MINTEK" brand before and it sucks. I had it for 6 months and it was shot.
kristib Posted November 8, 2005 Author Posted November 8, 2005 Thanks for the advice...still not sure what to do. ebony..is that the brand that is on sale at Walmart on BF? That sucks, what went wrong with them? Kristi
jenzshoppin Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 I bought the Minitek Dvd player 2 yrs ago BF. It had a teeny 5 inch screen and we mounted it on the back of the driver's seat. It started to get a line through the picture about 8 months after having it. Then someone stole it right out of our SUV. Not such a great idea to leave it in there. I too want the dvd player with two screens. I will clean out my garage and park the SUV in there if I keep the dvd player in the car!
hawkadoo1 Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 You would be better off buying two. Just check the brand I bought a dual dvd player form Walmart The Brand name was Venturer, well it caught fire in my car. I had my children in the car. So I tried to return it (very nicely) w/o rec. I had had it three weeks until this happened. I was rudely told that I did not purchase it at walmart, by the assistant manager of electronics. I was told to go find it and show it to them. Of course I couldn't as someone had got for me when I bought it. I went home printed out my credit card info showing the purchase and the ad touting it as a Walmart exclusive. Armed with this stuff they finally gave me a new one which also sucked. I wass not given an apology. I could not believe they accused me of trying to ret. something that was their brand. I also expected an apology about the fire. I should have sued them for the fire. Am I bitter you bet> Lisa
kristib Posted November 8, 2005 Author Posted November 8, 2005 Yikes, Lisa, that's scary. How did it catch on fire? I'm glad you were able to return it...Walmart is usually so good about returns. I'd be bitter too if they didn't believe me! I didn't realize so many people have had problems w/ the portable dvd players.
ebony0421 Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Kristib, I bought mine from the px on post. Hawkadoo1, I would get in touch with the district manager and see what happens.
Boilerhoss Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 We just went through this same thing this summer with our 2 boys 8 yrs old and 4 yrs old. They both have September birthdays. We bought them each there own DVD player and a carrying case that attaches to the seats. They both love them we dont have to much fighting only when they both try to watch the others dvd player or when one wants to watch the same as the other. They know that when we get in the car if they want to watch a dvd they better have brought their dvd player. I have recently started to just leave them in the trunk but with cold weather you cant leave them in the car you will crack the screens. When we first bought them they didnt have the carrying cases I went to Walmart and bought each of them one and it is nice to have them to protect them if they get dropped. HTH
kristib Posted November 8, 2005 Author Posted November 8, 2005 That's a good point, Angie. We are in Upstate NY where it gets reeeeallly cold. I didn't think about that...maybe we will be better off w/ two that we can bring in. such decisions....lol
hawkadoo1 Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Ebony, When i went back the second time there was a district manager there. She barely apologized. You would think they would have been nicer since you could smell the burn smell. Oh well. Lisa
mesarobins Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Has anyone ever tried traveling with them in airplanes? I'm taking my 2 kids ages 8 and 11 on a trans-Pacific flight next summer and was thinking of using them to occupy them for the 12 hour flight. Sounds like they might not hold up that well. Thoughts?
ilalynch Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Did you see Best Buy has BOGO? I have to find someone who wants one so I can possibly go half witht them.
