alimfp Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 I was thinking about this.. what's the chance that a store figures out that ads get leaked (obviously they all must know by now)... and then puts out a fake BF ad? That way, a few days before BF (at most hopefully), only then people will see the real ad when it leaks out. Just an idea I had.. if I worked in corporate at BB or the like.. I'd suggest a fake BF ad. Of course as a consumer I don't like the idea necessarily, but I think it'd be funny *starts putting on flame suit, lol*.
mjmcca Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Hmm i get the idea that the companies like for the consumer to know what is going to be on sale it generates interest in going to that store which in turn generates revenue
Mike Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Usually, BF ad scans are confirmed or denied by employees. Wally World doesn't pay their people enough to keep that a secret.
genoandkiddo Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Usually the ad scans are "what you see, that's what you get". But I do remember Target putting out a fake ad several years ago. Alot of people were very upset.
SuperMommy Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Seems to me that putting out a fake ad would only upset consumers. I would think that it would make people like us, that can't wait till Thanksgiving to see the ads, angry enough to boycott that store. I know I would!!!!
bayhaysay Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Can you imagine the boycotting retaliation if a store did that?!
Guest quick23 Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Ads you see this early could be fake. However, the retailers must get their ads to the newspapers well ahead of time to get them printed. They couldn't send out a real copy the night before, as it just wouldn't work with the newspapers. I believe most of the retailers don't mind the ads getting out early anyhow. If they have good deals, the people will come.
Gator Pam Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 I think the retailers object because by knowing what will be on sale BF, and he prices for the merchandise, many shoppers postpone spending money now. I know I postpone shopping on the items I'm interested in! But, I doubt they would go through the trouble of 'leaking' a fake BF ad.
orangedaisy Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 I'd be pissed enough to not buy from a store who faked me out. I'm guessing I'm not the only one.
littlezar Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Hmm i get the idea that the companies like for the consumer to know what is going to be on sale it generates interest in going to that store which in turn generates revenueThat's what I think too. :)
heavenlysshine Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 I didn't know about this! Is there somewhere I can read up on it? ~H~ Usually the ad scans are "what you see, that's what you get". But I do remember Target putting out a fake ad several years ago. Alot of people were very upset.
Gporter34 Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Not sure about that but it would create alot of pissed consumers who have their money ready to spend. Seems they wouldn't want to take the chance of making people so mad that close to a BIG spending season. I know I for one, would be irrate!!!!!!!
Guest Deals4Me Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 If a store did that to me,I wouldnt go to them. Boycott in the extreame. They would be lucky if I sniffed in thier general direction.
EliteABombAZ Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 I remember the rumors of a $14.99 DVD Player at Target last year. Never happened.

cami_reardon Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 I'd never have thought of that but I'd sure be upset if it happened.

But actually I think you're idea is funny.
adiboo23 Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 Wal-Mart employees don't even see the ads until they come out, unless you are in management. The managers keep the ads locked up until they are supposed to go out. My DH has worked there for 21 years, and never brings me an ad early.
alimfp Posted October 24, 2005 Author Posted October 24, 2005 I know people that work there as well (management). I know their wives, kids for that matter, etc. don't get that info even. I think they do want this info leaked for certain reasons though, so I do agree there. I could think of ideas of how they could prevent this from happening but I don't wanna give them any ideas. LOL. It just seems strange that certain corp's throw a fit, ask sites to take the ads down, etc.. yet they don't hide the copies all that well in the first place.
