In your experience, or in your opinion, which is the better Wal-Mart strategy? Go to one that IS NOT open 24 hours and go SUPER EARLY and be near the very front of the line that forms outside, OR go to a 24 hour Wal-Mart and get beside what you want most and hope to goodness you get the other stuff in there you want, as well?

i just go and take my chances.a couple years ago i was like number 20 in line andwhen they opened the doors they only let in like 15 people at a time.then they shut the doors and waitd like 5 minutes and let in another 10-15 and it probablywent on a few times .all of a sudden the store was crowded.

I never knew the 24 hour Wal-Marts stayed open all the time like that. The 24 hour ones around here close around midnight so they can get all their blitz items out and ready for the doors to open along with the rest of the regular Wal-Marts.

just to say this is my familys strategy hope it helps someone we all go to different walmarts and each one picks a department we get everything each of us wants put it on layaway and send each other the money we live in different staes then we get it out and send to each other i usually bring a couple of friends with me too we never missed yet I sure wish they would put the Bratz dolls on for black friday if anyone hears please please let me know cause our walmart honors all other stores ads its really fun

It depends on how many big ticket items you want..... if you have a couple, you may want to go to one that is closed and be near the front of the line, if you know where you're going you have a good chance of getting more than one item. If you don't, at the stores that are open everyone is in the store, poised over the pallet of items that they want and you may not get anything else. On the flip side if you have a number of items you want to PM from other stores, or things that you don't think will go as fast, go early to one that's open. Fill up your basket with the PM items and stuff that's not on a pallet, then wait near the pallet of the item you really want and be ready to go when the doorbusters start.

While both Walmarts here are open 24 hours, we still have blue laws(retail stores that sell more than 50% of non-food items must be closed from midnight to noon on Sunday) and that law applies to holidays too.

Our Walmart used to be open 24 hrs and closed at midnight to get things ready for BF. Then it stopped the 24 hr thing because a jealous hubby purchased a gun there and shot his wife while she was at work.

Everyone is being helpful, but it never even dawned on me that in the 24 hour store I would be able to grab the stuff I want to PM and have it in a buggy then go by the pallet of what else I want and wait. Thanks for this post and way to think outside the box! :g_clap:

Where do most people find the door buster items? Are they located in the specific departments or are they scattered throughout the store? If it is a SWM they could have it placed at just about anywhere between the 2 entrance doors if not department specific.

The closest 24hr Walmart is over 60 miles away from me. I only got here occasionally if i am in the area. There are NO Walmarts in NYC limits I have to go to NJ , LI or upstate NY to get to any of them.

It varies by store. The Walmarts around here put the pallets of doorbuster items in different spots every year. Most of the time the items are not in their specific departments. I have to ask an employee where everything is, and hopefully I asked the right employee. I've had problems in previous years with most of the employees that I asked having no clue where the doorbuster items that I was interested in were located. Last year my DH was sent to several different locations in the store looking for the DVD player that was in their BF ad .

I made the mistake one year of going to what I thought was a 24 hour WalMart and after getting there found out it was one of the ones that closed Thanksgiving day. This year I am going to investigate first. Hopefully they will have some that are open here. Would be nice to actually get the stuff I want to price match and then only have to worry w/ the doorbusters.

That's exactly what I do! LOL I go get everything I know that Walmart carries and then I stalk out the toy section and try to peek at what's under the pallet liner! LOL Sometimes, near the bottom of the pallet, the black liner isn't covered as tight or all the way down so you can peek at what's in it! ;)

I just called one of my 24 hour Wal_marts and they said they NEVER close the store except for Christmas Day, and that INCLUDES before BF. They confirmed that people through the years have been there early and got by pallets of what they wanted.

I just wanted to add that last year, my non-24 hour Walmart had employees outside passing out store maps with all the deals marked with which area they were in, so that was nice. I wish all the stores would do that. I think it's a great idea.

I have never gone to walmart first and am not sure I am ready to break tradition. I have such a good routine worked out. I guess it will depend on what the Target and tru ads have in them. There are quite a few thinkg I would love to get at Walmart this year though!

we dont have 24hr ones around me. I usually get in line outside with all the other freezing to death people and wait. they have police in front of the store and its all roped off so no one that isnt in the line can cut it. they also give out "maps" to where all the treasures are in the stores. I do toys last because its crazy nuts in that department. although i will be heading for the sewing machine and stick vacs first. i found the clothing sections were the least crowded in the beginning. so i did that while the other stuff is being mauled over. kathy

I've never heard of a 24 hr being open on Thanksgiving, the one I know always closed on Thanksgiving. I wouldnt want to go to the one that was open and stand by the pallets...EVEN if I would be warmer....

At mine they just put them in the middle on the big aisle that circles around the store and the one down through the middle... they're easy to spot once you get in, the trick is figuring out whats on each one... but most times there is someone there with more cajones than me that lifts or tears up the side to see what's underneath!! I went to one that had maps made up and the employees had them and gave them out, if you're in one early ask about that.

the best strategy is not to work at walmart and end up having to work that morning...lol
