Rose0426 Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 Looking for just a netbook for me so I don't have to always go down to basement to check e-mail and look at websites (GD of course). Looks like only 2 good ones for BF. Any recommendations on which one is better. Compaq from Best Buy or Acer from Radio Shack?
tokanm Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 I can tell you from personal experience that Acer has HORRIBLE customer service, imho. They are here in America but I had to call several times for the same problem and they were not at all helpful and were actually rude. I ended up tossing the Acer as the problem just could not get resolved (and it was still under warranty). I have never owned a Compaq so I can't help you on that
Kibit13 Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 I had an Acer laptop for about three years and it started to go downhill a few months ago and the battery now only stays charged for 5 minutes. Ugh! However, my husband said that this is pretty normal for PC's. I never had to deal with their customer service so I can't give you any info there. Other than that I have been quite happy with my Acer. I know nothing about Compaq.
nat1jen Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 We have an Acer netbook and have had no problems. My Comaq computer just died. You just never know with electronics. Is there much of a price difference? I may be wrong, but I am thinking that Compaq is now under the HP umbrella???
DLM Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 We have three Acer netbooks with no problems thus far. Two are from last Christmas, one from Mother's day. My daughter has an Acer laptop also from last Christmas and no problems with it either. I have a compaq computer that is about 6 years old and no problems (other than it needs a new battery) with it either. My other daughter's netbook from last Christmas is an Asus - no problems there either. I have plans to buy a netbook for my mom this Christmas and it will most likely be an Acer. I think you will be fine with either.
