boblabontefan Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 I currently use Mary Kay Mineral Powder Foundation and I am looking for a change. I need something with good coverage (adult acne, redness, etc.) and that will absorb the oil my skin produces through out the day without sliding off. Bare Minerals would be a choice, but I am a brick and mortar store type and there isn't a store within 20 miles of me that sells it. There is a Boston Store in our local mall that carries the usual Clinique, Estee Lauder, Lacome and at this time of year there are specials.... What recommendations could you give for the brand and any sales or combo specials that are worth the price? TIA
Buckeye Shopper Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 (edited) I like bare minerals. If you have a Sephora close to you , I would encourage that you go into the store and try it. They also have a money back guarantee. BTW...they have a 20% friends and family sale on Thursday. I don't know what's wrong with me today lol...I re-read your post, you can order online and I'm sure you can return by mail if you're unhappy with it. boblabontefan Posted November 9, 2010 Author Posted November 9, 2010 LOL - Thanks Buckeye. I am very tempted to try Bare Minerals. Maybe next time I am in Madison I will stop by their store.
Renkat Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 They gave me a sample when I asked for it in the store. I would suggest the matte finish.
Stowasser Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 my skin has a red tone (aging i guess) and i couldnt get the coverage, did others?
Buckeye Shopper Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 my skin has a red tone (aging i guess) and i couldnt get the coverage, did others? I'm fair complected and get red also, bare minerals has great coverage, but I use more than they say thet you need.
tablsu Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 I use Merle Norman Luxiva Mineral foundation and I love it and it last forever if you have a Merle Norman near you, you can go in there and they will let you try it on and if you buy it and get home and don't like it they will take it back for a full refund with a receipt withing 15 or 30 days I think
whereswaldo Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Bare minerals all the way. Last year I gave some bare minerals to my neice who was having some acne issues. No problems with bare minerals, she has asked for more for Christmas this year. Check QVC, there should be a todays special value coming up soon. I havent found the prices lower anywhere. QVC all the way
whereswaldo Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Sorry I meant to say Bare Escentuals mineral powder make up. Todays special value Novemeber13th, is Bare Escentuals. Check it out
Joli Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I use Laura Gellar Balance n' Brighten - I love it!!!!! I tried Bare Escentuals, it did nothing for me. I order Laura Gellar from QVC, I have been very happy with everything I use of hers.
queenofshopping Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 A lot of indie mineral makeup companies make stuff that's supposed to be much better quality than the mainstream stuff. I highly recommend checking out makeupalley.com to read reviews and see what people on the boards there have to say; I've seen this asked quite a few times there.
boblabontefan Posted November 10, 2010 Author Posted November 10, 2010 Bare Escentuals is very tempting, however I would really like to be able to try it before buying it or to talk with a make-up professional about it. Queen - awesome site (makeupalley.com) Loved it and joined. Thanks for the heads up. Anyone here try Origins cosmetics? If so what is your opinion?
DLM Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Make-up alley is my go-to site for recommendations.....those girls know their stuff!
boblabontefan Posted November 11, 2010 Author Posted November 11, 2010 Found a 1/2 off sale!!!! Local salon is getting rid of their inventory of Jane Iredale cosmetics. Plus it is only 1 block from my work! Reviews on Make-up alley are really great so this is the direction I am going for now. Thanks to everyone for their help.
