Promom
DD got married this past year and I am BIG on christmas ornaments. I'm going to give her some of her's from our family tree and get her some 1st christmas ones. I want to get a new family ornament, do I get it with just me, dh and ds? or add dd and her dh? And what do I do with her stocking? She may not be able to come home, if not do I hang it up anyway?
Elmck
When my kids left home I gave them the stockings they have had since babyhood and a box of ornaments that had their name on them and some they had made. They were thrilled. If they are home for Christmas, I do them a stocking (I just use a different one now) but if they can't come they still have memories of home with them. Tara3117
I think you should include your dd and new sil on your family ornament. They're still part of the family, right? I wouldn't hang up her stocking if she wasn't going to be there. If she is, I would get another one for sil too, so he's not left out. I got married this year too and we haven't addressed any of this stuff with our families yet. My dad was crushed when I told him last year that I wasn't going to sleep over this Christmas Eve. (I've been out of the house since for 3 Christmases, but I've always slept over after Midnight Mass.) DH and I are lucky that we live in the same town as our parents, but it makes for complicated holidays some times.
dealluvr
i would get the ornament with SIL name on it too.and even if she isnt going to be there i would still hang her stocking up maybe just a few candies in it just so it doesnt look bare.maybe put in the stocking a gift card and after christmas you can mail it to her.just so there is something in her stocking will make the holiday more bearable i think
Kibit13
When my husband and I got married my Mom made stockings for DH and I for our home. My Mom has my original stocking that she made when I was a baby and she made one for my husband that she keeps at the house too. When my brother left she kept his original and made him a new one too. Every Christmas she hangs all of our stockings. She even sends a few stocking stuffers for DH and I and my brother and we do the same for my parents. When we moved out we got together with Mom and picked out ornaments that we wanted for our tree and Mom gave us some new ornaments too. I would include everyone on the "Our Family" ornament. You, DH, DS, DD and SIL. I think your daughter will like it a lot. :)
Promom
Thanks for the advice and suggestions. I've already bought dd 2 ornaments and looking for a few more. I got her and her dh personalized stockings last year from penneys using the $10 off $10 code. The stocking that she's had is the one that has her name in glitter and I'm thinking of trying to either take her name off or add her husband's name and then the baby's name (she's due in Feb). lilac100
It's not a problem here yet but I intend for my son's to take their stockings with them when they move away. I spent many, many, many hours cross stitching them so they would always have me with them at Christmas. Ok I plan to wait until they are responsible enough to keep them. I would hate to have them lose them. I've already bought replacements in a couple after Christmas sales.
Kandy
I would still hang her stocking and add one from the sil too. I'd have their own stocking. Ornaments I'd give her some of her's from growing up. My kids will have box ornaments from disney, personalized ornaments, and collectors (Lenox), boy my tree will be almost bare when they leave. I get them an ornament ever year as part of their stocking and so does my mom and my uncle. I'd just get them one or two couple ornaments then get an ornament relative to them something they like that maybe a hallmark style ornament so that have a couple ornament and then one as an individual. Even if she cant come home on Christmas day maybe the family could get together before or a little after and then you would have a stocking for DD and the SIL. On those ornaments with the one snowman (or penguins...) for each person do I include my son since he doesn't live here anymore? I hadn't done a stocking for her in the past but now that they are engaged I think we will.
