Solomon960 Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 I am in great need of a dependable copy machine that can be used in my residence. I have yet to see a consumer stand-alone copy machine for sale in the local stores; do they even exist? I really don't want to purchase an all-in-one printer/copier/scanner/fax unit - all I need is to make copies of legal papers several times a week. I used to make copies at the library, but they increased their per-page rate 50% in 2010. Any thoughts and/or suggestions from the gottadeal community are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Scott Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 I would still recommend an all-in-one. Just make sure that you get one that uses laser technology, and not inkjet. It shouldn't be very expensive if you don't need color. Do you need to scan legal size documents? (8.5" x 14") That could make one more difficult to find.
Scott Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 This looks like a great one. It does not have fax, but does Print, Scan, and Copy http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16828113304 I checked, and the manufacture does say it handles up to legal size documents: http://www.brother-usa.com/mfc/modeldetail.aspx?productid=dcp7040 I personally love brother products. It doesn't hurt any that this unit is on sale right now at NewEgg.
AndreaInNC Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I know we bought one for our Band booster organization at Staples. http://www.staples.com/Canon-imageCLASS-D320-Personal-Digital-Copier/product-nr_505303?cmArea=FEATURED:SC3:CG51:CL90200 price on this one isn't bad - $129.99 after a $70 mail in rebate. It does allow legal size paper too.
Scott Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 That isn't bad... But the brother has a document feeder as well... makes copying several pages much easier. :)

This sounds like an excellent copier; and, no, color isn't necessary (I always heard that laser copiers were superior to inkjets, anyways). Now I'll just wait for a sale on the Brother DCP-7040 MFC (looks like I missed out on the Newegg promotion last week).

I'm sure that you will be able to find something.
Solomon960 Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 Bing is currently offering 20% off purchases at bestbuy.com, so I finally am going to pick up a Brother DCP-7040 MFC for under $170. By chance, does anyone know of a decent brand of replacement toners for this unit? Best Buy offers Brother brand toners for $53.99 - wow is that ever steep!
Solomon960 Posted October 2, 2010 Author Posted October 2, 2010 I did pick up a Brother DCP-7040 from Office Depot in June. In finally getting around to setting it up, I discovered that it is incompatible with my 32-bit Windows XP computer. I intend to replace my computer (and possibly purchase a laptop as well) in the coming months, but I am waiting for the AMD Fusion APUs to come out. Any word on the release date for the Fusion series of desktops and laptops? AMD is being over secretive on its release date. Unless an outrageous deal on a 64-bit XP shows up or a Windows 7 computer is heavily discounted in the meantime, I will remain content with waiting for AMD to desire an income stream by flooding the Fusions onto the market; like my XP, they allegedly have the ability to remain viable for a decade after purchase.
