bugsette Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 (edited) We got a real tree yesterday how to we keep the scent lasting?????? Thanks Edited December 8, 2009 by Rockfordmom
Suzy Crampton Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 You can cut a branch everyday, that should release a new smell. The smell usually comes from the new growth and since the tree is essentially dying, if you clip a branch that opens it up again. The smell leaves as it dries out. I wish you could keep the smell all year. I always am amazed that when I vacuum weeks after christmas it still smells from sucking up the needles that fell off the tree.
Illinoismom Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 So we went this afternoon to find the perfect tree. I think we did great what do you think http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2023573&id=1330776583&l=3452cd992c
teebee Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 That looks perfect to me. lol Seems you guys had fun searching for it, thanks for the great pics.
Gator Pam Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Pretty! Shapely as well. I am looking forward to pictures of it decorated.
ourhappyfamily4 Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 looks like yall had a great time! Plus the tree looks nice.
queenofshopping Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I've scheduled ours for this Friday, though every year I worry that we're either too early, and the tree will die too soon, or too late, and I won't have enough time to decorate
stacy0479 Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 DF is deployed right now so I have to rely on help to get out tree this year. DF will be home for Christmas but I would like a tree before he gets home. That being said, we are going on the 13th to get one!
bugsette Posted December 6, 2009 Author Posted December 6, 2009 we got our this past Friday..... it's up but no light or decorations yet..... hopefully later today
brianacolie Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 We got ours last night. Already 90% trimmed! I did notice lots of needles already falling off though. Oh, well - I just MAKE them last, even if they are dead.
tn20 Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 (edited) We get our real tree either on Black Friday or the following day every year and don't have any problems with it making it to Christmas. We put this powder stuff in the water than is supposed to extend the life of the tree (found at WM last year... don't know what its called, its bag was torn so its now in a Ziplock baggie) and it seems to maybe help some. Our tree seems as "fresh" today as it did the day we got it! But we actually cut down our own tree, so that might make a difference... I know that there is a HUGE tree farm about 45 minutes from us that supposedly ships something like 25,000 Christmas trees to the east coast every year. I would guess that people buying those trees on the east coast won't have them last as long because they are cut down so much earlier, no water while transporting cross country, etc. Edited December 6, 2009 by tn20 Correcting a typo
racerfan Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 We just picked up ours about an hour ago. It is in the garage so the ice can melt off it. We will put it up tomorrow and hopefully decorate tomorrow nite and tuesday nite. Ours always last thru January 6th, then we take it down.
bugsette Posted December 6, 2009 Author Posted December 6, 2009 we ususally do have pretty good luck.... keep in water... you can add ginger ale or I think sugar.... and the power stuff too thant tn was talking about
AudreyNicole Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 We got ours the Saturday after thanksgiving and the needles are dropping like crazy already. I am sure it will be down just a few days after Christmas.
HansieDZ Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 That IS perfect! Some of my favorite childhood memories are of traipsing through the hills trying to find the "perfect" Christmas tree then Daddy would cut it off with this little folding saw he had and carry it all the way back to the truck. Nothing beats the smell of a real tree!
