  1. My boys are 19 and 20 and are hardcore XBOX gamers. They have mentioned Nintendo Switch a few times and we are considering getting one as a family gift for Christmas. My concern is that it doesn’t seem like more than 1-2 people can play at the same time. Is it possible for 4 people to play together? What additional accessories would be needed? We have 2 Switch Lites. Can they be linked to the main switch? I was reading about a family membership but I’m not sure how it all works. I feel so old right now. Lol!
  2. My list is small this year... and I’m getting complaints it’s not “beefy” enough... looking for more ideas... All I have on there is: Art supplies Nail polish Starbucks gift cards How about you?
  3. I don’t think there is anything I need at Target this year, except maybe the Beats headphones.
  4. My boys are 14 and 15. Their stocking usually include: Giftcards - Starbucks, Itunes, Apple Music, XBOX points cards, Fast Food A new charging cord for their phones (we seems to go through these like crazy!) A new toothbrush Chocolate covered pretzels Gum Deodorant and body spray Pistachios Card games Their favorite pens and mechanical pencils for school (since they always seem to lose them and need a restock for the second half of the year)
  5. After some family discussion, we have all agreed this year, we will buy only for the kids in our family. My mom is saving to buy a house, my sisters and myself and my husband are trying to pay off debit. None of us really can even think of anything we might even want for Christmas, and it seems silly to buy stuff just to buy it. I will still be buying for my sons, who are 14 and 15, and my niece and nephew who are 4 and 6. We have always had big Christmases, some years, to the point of it being overwhelming, so all of us are relieved and happy about our plan. That said, it's hard to imagine NOT buying my mom and sisters gifts for Christmas. I hate that we have become to programmed to shop and spend during the holidays. Does anyone else keep Christmas kids only? I'm looking for ideas to make this year special without all the STUFF.

    Older kids

I have two sons, 11 and 12. The 12 year old is asking for a laptop (a lot of his school assignments are online), World of Warcraft PC game and membership, Skylanders Trap Team, a new jacket, and XBOX points cards and itunes gift cards. The 11 year old is asking for an ipad mini and a case for that, Super Smash Bros for his 3DS, Lego Batman 3 for XBOX, pajama pants, some books, and XBOX points cards and itunes gift cards.
  7. I am a crafter, so my hubby said I can order some craft supplies. He said he'd do it, but would rather if I ordered so I got exactly what I wanted. I am eyeing some new watercolors, and Copic markers (they are alcohol based artist's markers). Beyond that, maybe an eyeshadow palette that I saw, some Alex and Ani bracelets, and I always love new PJs, slippers and giftcards for Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts and i-tunes.
  8. Personally, I think I would get her a giftcard to Ulta, Sephora, Bath and Body Works, etc. In my opinion, perfume is a very personal preference. I love fruity scents, but my mom and sister hate them... One year, I wanted the same perfume that my sister-in-law wears. I asked for it for Christmas, and DH got me a bottle, but when I wore it, it didn't smell the same on me and it actually make me sick to my stomach because it was too sweet smelling on my skin. Every person's body chemistry is different and scents can smell different from person to person. If it were me, unless it was something that she tried on, and specifically asked for, I would get a gift card for her.
  9. This is our first year doing it, and it went really well. I made a list first of all of the things I planned to buy, and then did a search on GD forums for just those items, that way I was not tempted to buy other things. I have become quite addicted to Amazon too... When I started my shopping, I loaded up my Amazon cart full of things from my shopping list, and every payday, I ordered a few things at a time. If an item dropped super low in price, I ordered right away. I have spent so much less this year than in past years and I am really excited about gift giving because I know my kids will be thrilled.
  10. I haven't bought much during Black Friday/Cyber Monday on Amazon, but I have been making Christmas purchases since August, and 90% of them were from Amazon. I love that I can just stack the boxes and keep them sealed, and my snooping boys don't have any idea what's in them. This is my first year having Prime, and I honestly will never be without it now. It's worth its weight in gold!!
  11. I don't know for certain, but I'd think because of the giftcard, they would not allow it.
  12. I LOVE this idea!! How about: iTunes giftcards An auto parts store Barnes and Noble - maybe for August or September to use for school A car wash/detail - April Showers... Does he play any sports? If yes, maybe a g/c to Dicks/Sports Authority for whatever month his sport starts in?
  13. My favorites include: 1. Christmas Vacation 2. Elf 3. Fred Claus 4. Arthur Christmas 5. Home Alone 6. Polar Express
  14. Mostly electronics and video games here too. DS (11) uses his Netbook from last Christmas daily. DS (10) still plays his 3DS from last year pretty often. Their XBOX gets tons of play, and the Wii gets used a lot when we have company because they like the play bowling. Legos and art supplies get lots of use too, especially the Lego Minifigures. This year, they are both getting iPod Touches and I am 100% certain they will be using them a TON. They are also getting the new version of Skylanders because they have gotten the other 2 games and figures and play with them pretty regularly. When they were smaller, the Fisher Price Imaginext toys got tons of use year after year. Each year, they got a big set, and they still (especially the Bat Cave) get some use. My boys still play with them along with the Lego minifigures, and my 2 year old nephew plays with them constantly when he visits. We totally got our money's worth out of them!
  15. The SAME thing happened to me with the Skylanders Lightning deal on Friday. I checked the box too, and you're right, it was a nightmare. CS did eventually change the price on my order, but it was such a pain. I don't like the new system at all, but now that I know, I won't make the same mistake again.
  16. Incase anyone is worried about being able to get the Swapforce at WM, Target.com has it for $37 right now! I had trouble with the regular site, but was able to get my order in on the mobile site. Hope it doesn't get cancelled!! It is showing in my order history but I didn't get a confirmation email... a little nervous about that. Hope you can all get your goodies!!
  17. I have not ordered from Walmart.com is a long time... Does anyone know if it is more likely that an online order be cancelled vs. a site to store order?
  18. Incase anyone is wondering, I asked at my Target this morning if they would price match the 11/22 Walmart sale. This is what I was told: They will not price match using the paper ad because Walmart's price is already a pricematch to another store. If they were to not have advertised it as such, they would be able to. However, if Walmart.com has the sale price listed on their website, AND the item is IN STOCK on the website, you can get the sale price matched. As far as printing off the ad, and trying to get a match, it's a no-go. Does that make sense? This may vary from store to store, so it may be different in your area.
  19. I really need to get Skylanders Swap Force... I am wondering which would be my best bet... ordering online with in-store pickup or having it shipped from Walmart.com? I can't make it to the store until 10am that day, and things would likely be sold out by then.... wonder if Amazon will be matching their price, or if I could price match at Target? Hmmmmm....
  20. We don't really have a budget. I shop a little every pay day, starting in July. This year, we are doing something I saw on pinterest. I have 2 boys, 10 and 11, and they will each get something they want, something they need, something to wear, something to read + stocking and a few small surprises. At this point, we have spent about 1/2 of what he spent last year, and the boys have really enjoyed choosing things they'd like that fit into each category. It forces them to be choosy, so I know that what they are asking for are things they'd really love to have, and it keeps things from getting too huge and costly. They both asked for ipod touch 4th generation for their "want" gift, they "need" cases and itunes gift cards, their "wear" gifts were new hightops for one and a watch for the other, and each a nice book. We will have spent about $350 on each of the boys this year, much less than past years, and I think they will be THRILLED on Christmas morning. DH and I spend about the same on eachother, and use DH's holiday bonus to shop for eachother. Otherwise, we buy for my parents, 2 sisters, 1 niece, 1 nephew, 3 teachers and my BFF. Those gifts range from $15 - $100 each, depending on who it's for. We spend what we can comfortably spend as we pay cash for everything.
  21. I have the Sensationail gel kit. DH got it for my last year for Christmas and I really enjoy it. CVS, Walgreen's and Walmart all carry it. The starter kit is about $50, but sometimes goes on sale for $39 or so. I've been pretty happy with the results for the price.
  22. This year, my boys have male teachers, so that makes it a bit harder. Last year, I made ruffle scarves for only the cost of the yarn (less than $5 per scarf, and super easy even if you don't know how to crochet!) and the teachers loved them. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ruffle+scarf+tutorial&sm=1 Since they have men teachers this year, I am considering a giftcard to redbox and a popcorn/candy bucket that I saw at Target. The buckets are $9.99 each, and I will get a giftcard for 5 movie rentals, which is an additional $6.
  23. Thank you all for all of your WONDERFUL suggestions! I have a nice list going now, and can't wait to get shopping!! He has requested new Oakley Polarized sunglasses so those are definitely on the list. I think I am going to get him an electric cooler too, so he doesn't have to worry about stopping for ice all the time, and I will fill it with food goodies. I also found a travel coffee brewer, that I will probably get, and a battery operated razor. I'm excited now!
  24. My husband is an over-the-road truck driver, and for the most part, is away from home Monday-Friday afternoon every week. I am wanting to find gifts for him that he can enjoy while he is in the truck. He's already got a TV/DVD combo, portable plug-in oven and a bunch of coolers in the truck. I plan to get him new sunglasses that he mentioned, as I know they will get daily use. Other than new movies for him to watch on his down time, I am stumped as to what to get him. I considered a PlayStation Vita (he is a gamer), but he already has a PSP that doesn't get much play, so I fear it would be wasted money. Anyone have any ideas?
  25. My family is asking for ideas for things I might like for Christmas... I always love looking at others wishlists. I would love: iPad mini iTunes giftcards Starbucks giftcards A new Vera Bradley bag Urban Decay "Naked 2" Eyeshadow palette Scandal Season 2 DVDs Grey's Anatomy Season 9 DVDs What's on yours this year?
