If you will be in New York City, skip the T-Day shopping and go see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in the morning! You can still pick up some NY souvenirs for the stockings! (Note: Macy's is definitely closed as many of the employees are out guiding balloons :greenappland have the rest of the day off.)

I am also hoping that someone will discount DTV converter boxes on Black Friday. The $40 coupons are valid for 90 days, so I deliberately ordered two in mid September so they would be valid through Black Friday and mid December. The ones they actually sent are valid Oct 1 through December 31. I have seen various ads for these, almost always $60 - $40 coupon = $20, so I am hoping they will be discounted closer to $40 on BF. With the impending changeover, I expect that these might be good "loss leaders" for retailers, especially since they still get $40 and could use a rebate for the other $20, figuring that many people won't follow through on the rebate (but I always do). Of course, the retailers will be even more interested in selling people DTVs with built-in ATSC (digital) tuners. (I have a cable box on my main living room HDTV, and another small HDTV that I bought a box previously to receive over-air signals, but we have two other TVs (kitchen and daughter's bedroom) that are receiving over air broadcasts.) Of course, this just means that I have too many TVs. If you need a converter or two and have not ordered, order NOW and they will be good through the holidays and almost up to the conversion date.

Sure won't be holding my breath for this one, but I see that there are a number of them in the area (Fort Worth and even Weatherford, Texas) where I will be visiting family this holiday, so I might just check out the ad and the store after getting to the higher priority places. Hey, by doing this they actually got some advertising, as I might not have even noticed them if it weren't for this thread. And hey #2, one of those costumes with a cape might come in handy! or not.

Hope it is clear to everyone that the discount code is CRED34, not CRED34@JCPenney. It worked when I entered just to test, but does require that you pay with a JC Penney card, or the discount may be removed. Anyone try without using a JC Penny card and see your actual final charge? Probably not a risk worth taking, unless you were just planning to buy anyway.

Funny you should mention the 22-inch Samsung monitor--that was the main thing that I got for waiting at BB last year, and then I found a slightly better deal on a slightly better Samsung 22 inch monitor on Cyber Monday through GottaDeal and returned the one I bought on BF. I will be checking the adds carefully and considering the models available for a GPS and maybe other small items, before determining my strategy this year, but I will be out early for the "fun" (crazyness) of it all.

What city will you be this Black Friday? -- NOW WITH MAP! Post #71
mcwalker replied to ChristmasShopping's topic in 2008
I will be in Fort Worth TX this year, visiting my parents. This will be my third location for BF as I was in suburban Chicago for my first BF outing in 2006, and on Long Island NY in 2007. -
Darn, I just bought a cheap ticket on AirTran yesterday, before seeing this.

That offer has expired so the link no longer works.

I am in the office, (pretending to be) working today. Just have to stop for some batteries and boxes. --"Annonymous"

Kmart $20 off $20 or more braided rugs printable coupon
mcwalker replied to go2grl's topic in Offline Hot Deals
Checked the K-mart downstairs in the building where I work in Manhattan for braided rugs and they didn't have any. Looks like they don't carry them, but now that I have seen online, I may ask a manager to be sure. -
If I don't see the money as promissed, I will report to the Better Business Bureau to resolve. (I used this recently and it works.) Nice promotion, but at least a little loose on the details and follow-through. Beware. I received notice from PayPal today that my account has been credited with $50. So anyone considering this offer, go for it.

I can't say much about the quality of Vizio, except that they don't show up in lists of leading quality. No HDTV comes with the wires needed to hook it up, and note that stores often over-price and over sell these. Shop around, don't just buy them with the TV. Regarding the 37 inch size, I have a similar issue and found something better. A number of manufacturers are now making HDTVs with narrower bezels so you can fit more screen in the same space. For example, check out the Toshiba 40RF350u. Best prices on this 40" 1080p HDTV are around $1,370 from BUYDIG.com, Beach Camera, and Butterfly Photo, all with free shipping and no tax outside NJ (they are all close to each other). Some other manufacturers are also getting into the thin bezel craze, but this is the smallest 40" HDTV made and about as small as one can be.

I wouldn't say there was anything that I really needed to wait in line for, but I kind of like the craziness of it (to a point) and got some good deals, mostly after the first store. And I will soon be returning the monitor I bought at BB becasue I got a good deal on a better one on Cyber Monday.
-
So maybe I should start a new thread--What time do you plan to get in line for BF...2008? Answer: around 6PM on AUGUST 31!
-
Before BF there was a thread and poll about what time you expected to get in line on Black Friday. Many people took a guess and some said it would "depend on the ads." So now a new poll: what time did you actually get in line or arrive at your first store? (Not what time you left home.) I got in line at BB at exactly 3:00 AM (and got most of what I wanted there).
-
Agreed, I am taking a "little" ($50) risk on this, but at least the monitor I ordered was included in the list, and everything written says I am entitled to the refund. Anyway, canceling your order was probably a prudent option. I will try to remember to report however the issue is finally resolved.
-
I placed an order for a Samsung 226BW monitor at 1:13 PM EST yesterday only because of the $50 I can get back through this offer. I received confirmations of the order and charge from both NewEgg and PayPal, but they made no reference whatsoever to the 20% cash back. I called both NewEgg and PayPal this morning to confirm and ask for some kind of written confirmation that I will receive the refund as promissed "by January 31, 2008." They both confirmed verbally that I qualified, but NewEgg refered me to PayPal and Paypal said that they do not have a means of sending me a confirmation (other than just sending me a copy of the rules). I am keeping all of my e-mails and electronic copies of the ad and rules. YOU are my "witnesses." If I don't see the money as promissed, I will report to the Better Business Bureau to resolve. (I used this recently and it works.) Nice promotion, but at least a little loose on the details and follow-through. Beware.

Did anyone have problems with newspapers not having all the ads
mcwalker replied to lovebears65's topic in 2007
We bought two different papers (NY Post and NY Newsday) at a corner store, so we got most of them. We did not get ACE Hardware or Sears. Stoped by an ACE we saw while traveling on Saturday and got all the things I wanted, thanks to GottaDeal. -
Here is the difference in forecast low temperatures from normal averages for Thanksgiving day. Colder in parts of the west, warmer in much of the east. Note that these are automatically updating each day, so on Thanksgiving, this will show BF forecast. http://image.weather.com/images/maps/special/norm_dep_low_600x405.jpg

Do You or Will You Do Reconnaissance On Wednesday Night?
mcwalker replied to bigjimslade's topic in 2007
As I live in NYC and don't have a car, I am going out to Long Island to rent a car for the holiday weekend Wednesday night. While there I am going to scope out some of the stores I will visit on BF, partly to be sure I know where they are and to go inside one or two and scope them out.
