Although I have a problem with doing too much shopping on Thanksgiving Day, and will be staying near home, this (and other nearby pharmacies?) might be the place that I take a walk to on T Day to get in shape for all the eating, and get this out of the way before the big shopping the next day.

See the Pep Boy's BF list. Buy 3 with installation, get 1 free.

I'm not much of an Old Navy shopper, and this has not swayed me. Brad, Hopefully someone else will send in a "clean" copy or scan so you can replace this one and get that "other site's" name off the scan! ...from a loyal GottaDealer. :)

Looking at the list, last year at least one ad came out each day starting on November 4. Lets see if that holds true again. If so, we have two days to go... (but don't count on it, of course.)

If it is a computer deal you are looking for, consider going to Walmart tomorrow morning and be done with it. Sure there might be better deals on better computers BF, but is it really worth it? Although it sounds like you are planning to go to a store near you, and that has an advantage that your DH can stop in and then join you as the store opens, if you are still planning to spend two nights out, consider driving a couple of hours to a safer location or one where there is some 24 hour activity close to the store you are interested in. Question to others: Do any of these stores have 24 hour security (inside) especially on these nights? If so, tell them you are there, sit in front of a window where they can see you, talk to them, take THEM a cup of coffee! You may be inside before the store opens. :)

If you need cables for that new TV, check out monoprice.com

This is great. Mounts and HDMI cables seem so over-priced in stores relative to their manufacturing cost. I will be needing both this season for a new HDTV I plan to buy and the prices here are great. But note that some of the "as low as" prices that you first see on this site are for 50 pieces or more. -
Sorry, freesia39, didn't know I could add a poll to an existing thread. MCW :)

Assuming that most of the key stores open at 5:00 AM, how much earlier are you planning to go out and get in a line on BF? (i.e. What time do you expect to arrive at the first store and get in line, not leave your house.)

Am I the only one that doesn't go out on Black Friday?
mcwalker replied to LoveNcMountains's topic in 2007
My family never did much BF shopping in the past, and I can sypathize with the dread of crowds, long waits in the dark night, or incessant commercialism. But last year a nephew and I tried it out for the first time, and my wife joined later in the day. We were traveling, but had rented a car and driven on the trip. (Almost couldn't get our luggage in the trunk going home.) I agree with the comments about small children. It isn't fair to them. Find a way to leave them at home and do them and the rest of us a favor. Traveling? Pack light and take an empty piece of wheeled luggage. Shop for smaller items that fill the bag. You probably won't get an HDTV, but you would be surprised how many goodies you can get in one empty bag. (I always leave some room in my luggage for purchases). The weather isn't cooperating so far this fall, but I hope it is bitter cold and snowing on Thanksgiving in my area (slim chance) so that I lot more people (mostly those who don't read this site) stay home, so there is more for me. -
Thanks. I prefer Target to K-Mart (for products and atmosphere) and Wal-Mart (for social responsibility). I'll sign up. :)

From midtown Manhattan, your best bet is probably the Target on Queens Boulevard in Queens. If traveling by transit, take the R or V train to Grand Ave. Newtown and walk one block east. There is also a Best Buy in the same building. A 5 minute walk east (at the Woodhaven Blvd station) is Queens Mall, with Macy's, JC Penney, and all the usuall mall chain stores. Another 10 minute walk east under the Long Island Expressway is Sears, Circuit City, Marshalls, (and a Kohls under construction). There is a steady flow of shoppers moving between stores along that (north) side of Queens Boulevard every day. The second closest Target to Midtown (closer than Brooklyn or Bronx) is in Newport Mall in Jersey City, which is relatively easy to access by PATH subway train from Herald Square. That mall also has some of the usual mall anchors and mall chains. There is a KMART (in the building where I work) on 34th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues, but I like Target better, too. :)

Potential buyers should note that this particular unit offers 720p and 1080i output, not 1080p. Toshiba offers other HD-DVD models with 1080p output. People who own or are planning to buy a 1080p HDTV (like me) should probably buy a matching HD-DVD player. Also note that the 5 free HD-DVD offer is good on any Toshiba HD-DVD player bought anywhere through Feb. 28, 2008 but is only for a limited selection of titles, so check out the details before buying. Check the Toshiba site http://www.tacp.com/hddvd/ for details on both issues.

If any electronic item is going bad in less than a year, check your manufacturers or store warranty. Sometimes they aren't worth the trouble, but sometimes you can get some relief. Also, if you bought an item with AmEx or some other credit cards, they sometimes offer a warranty extension. For anyone about to buy any electronic item (and many other items). 1. Keep your warranties in a file, 2. Keep your receipts for the duration of the warranty (plus any credit card extensions) in the same file, 3. check your credit cards to determine which include automatic extension of warranties and consider using those cards for purchases.

I am 47 years old. What do you mean, 'believe' in Santa? Of course there is a Santa--even if he does freeze his petunias off waiting in line outside BB on Black Friday! Our 6.9 year-old daughter definitely believes and just received some money from the Tooth Fairy last night.

Great list, (but I am still on the edge of my seat with anticipation! ) So you are going to keep a running list this year? 09/14/07 Ace Hardware 10/15/07 Harbor Freight etc ...
-
Last year was my first BF. Nephew and I joined line at BB at 4:00AM, then went to Wallmart, Target, Kohls, OfficeMax, Staples, different Kohls, then picked up wife and back to Kohls. Not sure for this year, but I am looking for an HDTV with very specific dimensions, so it may depend on whether anyone has just the right HDTV for me.

Definitely tempting, but also definitely unethical. They should require people to write their name on the coupon as they are handed out. Leave some coupons for the next 50 people in line.
-
It was the BB at 1432 Butterfield Road in Downers Grove, near the intersection of the North-South and East-West Tollways (I-355 & I-88). This was a good area for Black Friday shopping with lots of the big stores, and an adventure for an out-of-towner from New York City.
-
I went to a BB in suburban Chicago last year and got in (a long) line at around 4:00. Doors opened at 5:00, but we didn't get in the door untill just about 6:00 AM. The hotest items were gone, of course, but I still got a number of items of interest (including 2 smaller LCD TVs) and some DVDs that were "doorbusters." Some people were still in line after me, probably until about 6:30 AM, so I would say 6:30 to 7:00 AM. Check out lines were quite long, but actually moved rather smoothly/quickly.

I filed a complaint on their web site. Said that If they proceed with this, then I wouldn't shop Walmart on BF or anytime this holiday season. I might not anyway, but at least it gives the impression that there are direct negative consequences. So Brad, maybe the best GottaDeal response to Walmart is to say, "Sure, you don't want us to print your ad, we won't...and we'll tell all our members that you don't want THEIR business."

Darn, no Harbor Freights near me in NYC / Long Island.

Traditionally, our family gathered from around the country on Grandad's farm in Texas. Thanksgiving day and most of the weekend was for family and deliberately non-commercial. Some shopping started creeping in on the weekend over the past few years. Last year we changed plans ang got together at a hotel in suburban Chicago. Our hotel was in prime shopping (sold out Thanksgiving night) and I made my first genuine BF outing with a nephew starting at BB at 4 AM and working it the rest of the day. (Other family slept in.) The fact that I am on this site and it isn't even November yet, tells you where I will be. Frankly, I think stores should be closed Thanksgiving so everyone has a holiday, but then again...maybe just a little peek?

Rite Aid bought out Eckerd and Brooks last year, so all stores are now changing to Rite Aid. My Eckerd in Queens, New York City had all Eckerd products at 50% off for a couple of weeks, and are now 75% off, too. Most is gone, but there are some items left. Hurry in. There are some good prices on school items in their flyer this week, too. Marble writing books 50 cents each WITH COUPON in the flyer.
