Flatware/Dinnerware? Who would have a good deal on Black Friday?
mcwalker replied to momee2twins's topic in 2012
If you like Corelle dishes, as I do, you can get some good deals on sets at their "outlet" stores. Some of these are in outlet shopping centers, but some are not. You can find their locations on their web site: http://www.shopworldkitchen.com/corningware-corelle-and-more You may find some BF specials at these, especially in the outet centers. -
The suggestion of looking at your husband's tools to see what brands he uses is a good suggestion. Also note whether his more recent tools are corded or cordless. If he uses cordless with interchangeable batteries (such as Craftsman C3), I would seriously consider getting a saw of the same brand that uses the same batteries. As noted by others, Dewalt is is good. I also like Sears Craftsman, but their cheapest tools might not be the best anymore (and avoid anything from Sears or K-Mart that is not Craftsman brand). Milwaukee is also good, I believe--I have borrowed one of those of few times. Stay away from Black & Decker, which are cheap but not as good. You might also find a good deal on a Sears Friends and Family sale or special tool sale when one comes along. Makita is a step above B&D, but I think it is a bit below Dewalt, Milwaukee, and some others. (I have a small portable table saw with Craftsman brand, but made by Makita, I think. It has been OK for my use, but not professional grade.)

Hi Bigjim, I was at Six Flags Great Adventure (New Jersey) Fright Fest with my family last night, but I am watching some of the replay. Looks good! I am getting the periodic audio static throughout. Also note that when you show your screen shot it is too fuzzy to read much of the text, so you might try zooming in a bit on portions of a website to make it more readable when appropriate. Hope to see your next edition live!

I am still waiting until close to BF when I will start looking online with the BF prices in hand. In fact, at this time of year I tend to postpone some "regular" purchases for myself and encourage my wife (who is not heavy into BF) to do so so that I can see if I can get something I need for a better price on BF.

What items are you hoping for the best deal on for Black Friday?
mcwalker replied to ChristmasShopping's topic in 2012
For the first time in years I am in the market for a desktop computer and a laptop. I don't know that I would get in line early enough to score one of the hot deals, or whether they will offer the kind of specs I will look for, but we'll see. -
1. Buy a new TV and get Stouffer's TV dinners to go with it! 2. Middle woman: "Wow, I can't believe I am in the Target!" Woman behind her, "Aaahhh! I am right here, and I still can't get in! 3. Bean Bags or Boys, your choice, just $6.95 each.

I have been doing BF for 6 years, this will be my seventh. I joined GottaDeal in November 2006, just a couple of weeks before my first BF while doing research. I live in Queens, New York City, but have done BF in a few different locations as we often travel for Thanksgiving. My "regular" area for BF is Nassau County Long Island, but I have done it in suburban Chicago and Weatherford Texas. This year it will be Lancaster Pennsylvania.

"You can check in any time you like, but you can never check out..."

After getting my key items, I look for cheap DVDs and a few BlueRays; whatever the pharmacies are offering free or super cheap after after rebate; some tools (expecially when Ace offers super rebates).

Congratulations to the first 5 winners, now let's see who is closest. And for those of you who have still "never won anything," keep at it--you can win on Gattadeal!

What city will you be shopping in this year on Black Friday?
mcwalker replied to jellybean051901's topic in 2012
Earlier, I said: A trip to Texas was ruled out today. It will almost certainly be the Lancaster/Reading area for me this year--the fourth new location I will have done BF now in just my 7th year. -
Just sent a PM. Hope I can be of help as this site has helped me so much for 6 years going on 7.

WALMART on October 15! (Yes, this is a joke, but what the heck!)

Are you planning on spending more or less on Christmas this year?
mcwalker replied to ChristmasShopping's topic in 2012
Probably about the same for me this year. -
Done. Timed out a few times on my long text answers. (don't close it, just resubmit).
-
I will probably start shopping online along with my BF research around the beginning of November, with most of the shopping starting in earnest on BF and afterwards.
-
I can't directly answer your question (and it is always a guess as it varies by year, location, and particular store. But I will point out that, while I have gotten many of the great deals, including electronics, by getting in line just a couple of hours before opening, I think that the cheapest laptops are often the single most difficult item to snag on BF, requiring you to be one of the earliest in line, whenever the line starts. I have never directly sought out a laptop on BF, but sometimes asked if any were left, and they never were when I got in the store. Be sure to study the features of any laptop you are interested in--you may be better off buying something not on BF special, and also try on Thanksgiving Day to see whether you can order it online at the BF price.

Black Friday Safety: Swansea police chief proposes Black Friday law
mcwalker replied to bigjimslade's topic in 2012
I think it is a good idea. Brad and many of us on the GottaDeal forum have been advocating for larger stores to have well organized plans for lines and openings for a long time, both for safety and fairness. Sometimes I see it, but other times not so much. Larger stores need to pay for some security (off-duty cops or rent-a-cops) so smaller police departments aren't overburdened. -
My parents were always anti-commercialism on the Thanksgiving weekend, so I didn't get into Black Friday until 2006 (when I was in my late 40s). I don't think that stores should open until at least midnight (or later) after Thanksgiving (and I know that a lot of others agree with me), so that makes me "anti-Black-Thursday."

What city will you be shopping in this year on Black Friday?
mcwalker replied to jellybean051901's topic in 2012
To be determined, either: North Texas (Weatherford or west side of Fort Worth) (parents), or Long Island, New York (relatively near home), or Lancaster/Reading, Pennsylvania (inlaws) -
Update on SaveMore: I ordered the Barnes & Noble card back in December and received it. After that, I ordered three more deals, a Burger King card, an Overstock.com card, and a Walmart card/Dining Dollars deal. Despite trying to call (they NEVER answer the phones and provide no other contact method or real address), I never received the other items. I was wondering whether they were just incompetent/overwhelmed, or outright fraudulent. I just called my credit card company to reverse the three charges, which they will do. The person I spoke to, who obviously handles a lot of issues with many companies, said he has had other complaints specifically about SaveMore and that they seem to have a pattern of fulfilling one or more initial deals, then ignoring others in a fraudulent manner. Their overly complicated timing system seems geared to this deception. You might get what you pay for, but there is a very good chance you won't. I advise people to avoid Savemore.com. (BBB online also gives it an F rating.)

What is it that you are finding wrong with all these cameras? Perhaps you are expecting too much from a point and shoot camera?

Subway $2 subs for the Month of December - YMMV
mcwalker replied to boblabontefan's topic in Offline Hot Deals
I get that sense sometimes too. Hey, asside from saving a few cents, I just don't want to eat that much. Subway is supposed to be about healthy eating, after all , which for most Amercians means eating less.
