  1. I was looking at that too as well as this review... ICE CREAM MAKER REVIEW - Ninja CREAMi tutorial - YouTube After reading the comments (my neck is sore from nodding), I'm having second thoughts despite the attractive $105 price. Maybe this instead? https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1431534 at a net cost of $65.
  2. So the Walmart delivery person rings your bell and waits? What if you are not home or in the shower when they deliver? How much do you tip and is it part of the purchase or handed to the driver at the time of delivery?

  5. No surprise. During the Marketbasket strike, Walmart's shelves were bare while another local grocer (Hannaford) installed extra registers, hired additional employees, and secured local production that Marketbasket could not use. Agile corporations with short supply chains are much better prepared to react to market change than bureaucratic corporations. That is one of MANY reasons I eschew the corporations you named.
  6. I'm old enough to remember Black Friday before waiting in line and all night/day shopping. For me, waiting in line and all night/day shopping has been an anomaly. I never much got into it and don't miss it. Of late, I have been doing most of my Christmas shopping online and haven't ventured out on Black Friday before daylight. Still get what I want and save a lot of money, but no lines and no disappointments. ***** My personal history of Black Friday ***** The day after Thanksgiving has been referred to as Black Friday since 1952, but I only remember it as it has been since the 1970s. Back then, Christmas season began once the Sears Wish Book arrived in the mailbox. Then there were television specials and commercials for things we didn't know we needed. Then the parades -- the local crappy ones in our towns, the bigger ones in nearby communities, and the really big ones on TV. All featuring Santa Claus and most sponsored by Macy's or some other retailer. And then came the decorations. My mother used to take us out for a ride in the car to look at all the lights. Then Thanksgiving. Christmas Club checks were issued the Monday before Thanksgiving. Stores mailed out ads that week. My mother ventured out on Friday to shop. No lines. No Doorbusters. Just lots of sales. My father always bought our Big Gifts. He carefully studied our interests all year then bought the perfect gift for each of us. You could tell which gift that was by his interest in how much each one of us liked one particular gift. His shopping was mostly done before Thanksgiving. I'm kind of like my father. My mother bought the rest. She shopped the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday after Thanksgiving the the weekend before Christmas for the stuff that was marked down. When I was older, I got to help and that was lots of fun. I also got to help wrap -- lining up patterns and curling ribbons. I still hate wrapping. I'm kind of like my mother. The term Doorbuster also predates my memory. JC Penney used the term Door Buster in an ad in January of 1949. In 1950 Newberry's ran an ad in the LA Times that used the single word Doorbuster. My first awareness of the word and concept came with the Cabbage Patch Kids dolls in the 1980s. I remember seeing a video on the local news of people pushing to get to the front of a crowd at the opening of a Walmart. I could not believe people were lining up for a doll. That's a doorbuster. About the same time, I worked at a department store that had a bunch of us come in after dinner on Thanksgiving to get ready for Friday. The manager left the lights on and the doors unlocked and people came into the store and shopped. He was the 'cashier' and was surprised at how busy the store was. We never locked the doors that night, so, I believe, that was the first store that was ever open on Thanksgiving and the earliest opened store on that particular Black Friday. We got double time for our Thanksgiving hours and the store bought us breakfast, but the real reason we agreed to work on Thanksgiving was to get Friday morning off. I have never camped out in front of a store and I never bought a TV on Black Friday. But I know plenty who did. I used to wait in line at Staples for computers, monitors, disks, discs, GPS's, and all the free-after-rebate things. (I still have unopened DVDs.) Twice, I waited in line at Kohl's mostly for digital picture frames. Once I shopped with another person (my sister) which was fun, but slowed me down a lot and cost me a lot of money. Last two times I ventured out were for cell phones -- four and seven years ago! Both times, I simply walked into Walmart on my way home from Thanksgiving dinner at my in-laws. I still like to go out on Black Friday, but mostly to be part of the Christmas shopping. The first Cyber Monday came in 2005. I have not ever really participated in these. Now, of course most of the Cyber merchants have migrated to Black Friday. Do they still do Cyber Monday? Today, the deals come earlier and earlier. Last year, I bought my Legends Ultimate Arcade on November 7th and two TCL Roku TVs on November 11th. In both cases, I was waiting online for 'the doors to open' and snagged a 'doorbuster'. It was exhilarating. As exhilarating as it ever was. This year, a lot of my friends are looking at televisions and computers. If you go back to 2004, those were hot items then. Today, they are bigger, faster, and cheaper. People are still hoping for a deal on iCrap. Probably DVDs still (I am). I don't think Black Friday as we knew or remember it is gone. I believe the hunt, the thrill, and the community are just the same. Merchants have changed, online shopping is better, and the calendar is a little bent out of shape, but Black Friday is alive and well. I would argue that the last twenty years have been an anomaly and that today's Christmas season is more like those of my childhood. Happy shopping!
  7. I succumbed to peer pressure today and set out on an emergency Thanksgiving shopping spree to ensure that one of the hundreds of turkeys at local grocers would be in my oven Thanksgiving. Turkeys were more plentiful than on my last trip with Marketbasket showcasing a half dozen brands. I grabbed a ten pound bird for $0.79 per pound. Great size, great price. Had to make some room in the freezer. Even a ten pound turkey takes up a lot of space. Other things I found... $0.99/dozen Large Eggs$1.50/pint Blueberries$1.99/half gallon of Silk Vanilla Almond Milk$1.77/pound Boneless Pork Loin$7.79/pound Atlantic Salmon$0.49 each Mangos$0.49/pound Jalapeno Peppers$1.29/pound Green Beans$12.19/gallon Peanut OilStill no empty shelves. Still everything I want. Still great prices. Plus i got my turkey
  8. At the Verizon store, I was told I could order my phones now and they would hold them until shortly before Christmas and that I could come in after Christmas and activate the new phones, transfer the data, and trade in the old phones. I do not think this is an uncommon ask. When he ordered my phones, he put a note to hold until 12/26.
  9. A. No. I have a strong desire not to pay for the privilege of shopping. I have found that I can do better than the 'clubs' shopping locally and have found no membership that provided long term benefits. I currently subscribe to Prime at the student price. Frankly, I do not think that is worthwhile. I paid for a Sam's Club membership to procure my Legends Ultimate Arcade, but that membership was a money maker after coupons and discounts.
  10. I bought new phones today ;-) I did not plan to, but Verizon had the phones I wanted at a decent price and a good plan for a decent price. PLUS, they will hold my phones until I need them and not activate them until after Christmas. So, I can let the kids down easy about 'supply chain issues' and put two phones under the tree. Verizon gave me $400 trade for our iPhone 7s. AT&T offered no trade in. Verizon is $35/month more but has a better network and includes hot spot and free hulu plus. Oh, and Verizon has phones. Also, most of the price difference will disappear when I retire in May. Finally, Verizon will allow me to cancel and rebuy if a better deal comes along between now and Christmas.
  11. Today, I begin the quest to replace my kids' cell phones. The current phones have the touch spot at the bottom of the screen and we are a little apprehensive about the current models. The iPhone 7s we now have are four years old. The hardware and battery have enjoyed longevity 25% past expectations We are AT&T customers, but are looking at Verizon as an option as well. I am looking at the iPhone 13 for my first born and an iPhone 12 Max Pro for his brother. I will monitor this thread for phone and service reviews and recommendations as well as info about ongoing and upcoming deals.

  13. In for November
  14. Sons -- guys -- are never grown. They get bigger, but they don't grow up.
  15. Buy and return/rebuy if necessary... from https://cs.kohls.com/app/answers/help_topic/c/22,4 How many days do I have to return an item? The Kohl’s Return Policy allows you to return most merchandise purchased in-store and Kohls.com for up to 180 days after the original purchase date, with or without receipt except for the following items which are subject to the noted restrictions and require either a valid Kohl's receipt or Kohl's account look-up. Premium electronics and watches must be returned within 30 days of purchase with the original packaging and a valid receipt or account lookup.
  16. First shopping day of the new week... Grapes $0.77/lb Eye Round Roast $2.77/lb Green Giant Frozen Vegetables $0.99/7-10oz package Green Giant Canned Vegetables $0.99/14.5-15.25oz can Smoothies, Jerky, and Sides covered. Stopped in to Hannaford this morning. Wanted some boneless pork chops for later this week. Trick or Treat candy was plentiful. I bought mine earlier, but I really like candy so I need to supplement my stock. I got four THICK pork chops for $1.99/lb plus two thick pork chops for the same price. I got a whole chicken for $0.89/lb. At six pounds, it's a little large for my rotisserie, but perfect for a weekend slow cooker meal with those little potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, and...whatever has been in the refrigerator a little too long. Pineapples were $1.69 each. Canned from Aldis is still a better deal, but I really enjoy liberating the fruit. Headed for the dehydrator. Very jubilant and festive atmosphere. Lots of socializing among the shoppers. I'm really happy about that. For way too long, people were alone in the stores -- keeping their distance, walking one way, and mumbling through masks. I have a feeling this is going to be a merry Christmas for retailers. Next stop is Market Basket where I will buy Eggs $0.99/dozen, collard greens $1.29/bunch, yams $0.79/lb, and sweet onions $0.79/lb. At least in New England, the shelves remain full of inexpensive groceries.
  17. Photo #1: Where are the VHS tapes? Photo #2: Done! Photo #3: Who farted?
  18. Just understand that the on/off button is on the same side as the really bright light. Turn the light away from you and 'pull' the button from below.
  19. OK. Good topic kimpooh19! The answer is nothing (though some would say TVs). BUT I am still using stuff I bought every year at Staples. Yup, free after rebate DVDs and CDs. Free after rewards paper. I just opened my last make-money-after-rewards-and-rebate batteries. You made me smile!
  20. For the record, I wear BF themed stuff year round. Great conversation starter...especially the shirts with, "If you can read this..." on the back.
  21. Obviously not just TVs, but we are so used to TV prices continuously dropping that this new reality is shocking. Glad I have nine already ;-) Maybe people will pass on this year's 'deals' and we can clean up after Christmas.
  22. Yikes! 54% increase from last year! A VERY Black Friday, indeed...
  23. You are a funny girl. There would be no forums like this if ANYONE knew the truth of any BF rumors. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.
  24. This is TOO easy... Walmart's $148 55" TCL 4K Roku TV Deal... I'm going to toss in a tradition as well. For many years, when our kids were young and our energy unlimited, my wife and I spent our Thanksgiving weekends on the road. Thursday, we would break bread with her family. Friday morning I would head out shopping while she packed. When I returned, we would unload my car, hop into hers, and head to Santa's Village for the kickoff of Christmastime at Santa's Village. We stayed at Cabot Inn and Suites which had an indoor pool, a hot tub, and a restaurant. First day, we would check, take the kids for a swim, have dinner, and head to Santa's Village. Checking in the first night got you a return pass for Saturday. More important, you got to enter the park through a side door -- no lines, no waiting. The inn was close enough that you could leave the park for dinner (and/or a nap). Next day, breakfast, one last dip in the pool, then home. Those were my best Black Fridays!
