  1. Alco Electronics makes RCA branded computer products these days. It is a Hong Kong company. Haven't had a bad experience with the products. Apple, btw, is made by a chinese company.
  2. PM me a link to your http://tvfool.comreport and I'll help you find one!
  3. We have three TiVos (soon to be four) plus two Minis and three DVR+s. Personally, I prefer the DVR+, but my wife prefers the TiVo. Both awesome. Even if you are not interested in recording, it's nice to have a program guide and to be able to rewind when you snooze off or pause when the phone rings. The Roamio/OTA has a lot of streaming apps as well. Santa ought to drop one of those refurbs down your chimney.
  4. I don't think you will see this price again...not often anyway. I was pretty excited to get new ones for $299. This is better, IMHO.
  5. The Roamio/OTA linked has no fees. Neither DVR has monthly fees. Both require an antenna as source for programming. Otherwise, TiVo fees vary by promotion and device. All in for the Bolt is pricey, IMHO.
  6. I don't see any discussion of DVRs, so I thought I would post this for those who might be looking for an OTA DVR. Right now, the two main choices for an OTA DVR are the Channel Master DVR+ and the TiVo Roamio/OTA. The Channel Master 1t DVR+ is on sale for $249.99. It has no monthly service fees. TiVo is selling refurbished 500g Roamio/OTAs with Lifetime and a factory warranty for $199.99. Both are great DVRs and good deals, but the TiVo price is insane. http://www.channelmaster.com/Special_Offers_s/364.htmhttps://www.tivo.com/thanksgiving2016#/thanksgiving2016 I have both (and love) and would be happy to answer questions. Happy shopping!
  7. Happy November Tracy!
  8. Looks like I am going to buy a truck on BF ;-)
  9. Call the geek squad and ask how much to upgrade memory to 8g/12g/16g and figure that into your cost. In the QnA, someone said memory could not be upgraded. I really do not think 4g is enough. That said, Windows 10 requires 1g for 32 bit and 2g for 64 bit.
  10. A couple years ago, I tried out a View Master which used an iPhone in headgear to view slides. Pretty interesting, but not much use. Then there were some high end 3D/VR headsets which were too expensive for me. Now, I am seeing dozens of inexpensive sets. Are these on anyone's list? Anyone already playing with one? One reviewer said the iPhone SE is too small for these. Anyone disagree? 11. Good for REI employees. Who shops REI on BF anyway. As always, I prefer to leave open/close decisions to the individual merchants and their employees. REI should too. Nice web page, though, huh?
  12. $60 over the i3, but $30 over your budget. I have been looking at CPUs a lot lately. I have a couple desktops to upgrade and want a 17" laptop for myself. Most of the 17" laptops are i3s. At this point in time, I am not sure CPU is the top differentiator, but I feel it when I sit at a computer. I was going to recommend the walmart acer... http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/black-friday-4049-Acer156Corei5Laptopw6GB1TBOnlineOnly.html but I was concerned the 2g less memory would be a bigger hit on performance than the i3. Most of the laptops only specify the size of the disk. I'd like to know the manufacturer and speed. 7200rpm is going to make a big difference. WD/Toshiba are more reliable than Seagate/Samsung, Have fun!
  13. Office Depot? I'd find the $30 to get the i5 with the bigger disk on the same page which will be about 20% faster, but the i3 is no slouch... http://officedepot.shoplocal.com/officedepotsd/weeklyad?promotioncode=OfficeDepot-161124BF&cm_sp=marketing-_-dynamicad-sneak_peek-_-Home-TriplePromoZone1-Ad2-Home&storeid=2670614#!/promotion?storeid=2670614&languageid=1&promotioncode=OfficeDepot-161124BF&pagenumber=1&mode=bbpsingle http://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cpu-intel_core_i5_7200u-653-vs-intel_core_i3_7100u-654
  14. Ajogg, after 114 posts and eleven years, you MUST know it's 5-7-5 Let me fix that for you...
  15. Sure. Nice specs, I/O, and reviews. Dell is doing a lot better with durability these days.
  16. No problem going back and forth via Google Docs. My youngest does it all the time. I am going to suggest you look into the $99 RCA tablet at Walmart... https://www.walmart.com/ip/52619638?u1=&oid=223073.1&wmlspartner=RjWYtCqO0*M&sourceid=27364068732705465174&affillinktype=10&veh=aff A couple years ago, I was shopping for a full license for Office. I got an Asus Transformer with similar specs for $15 more than the Office license would have cost. I LOVE it! Good battery life (this one has six hours), lightweight, easy to type on (vs touch screen), and real Windows so I can run anything. Sync Chrome across the two computers and share files with a micro usb thumb drive. Something to think about. Worth a visit to the store for a little hands on.
  17. http://cpuboss.com/cpus/AMD-E2-7110-vs-AMD-A6-7310 I don't think you would notice, but the A6 is a faster CPU. Otherwise pretty comparable. Get the cheaper one.
  18. No appreciable difference.
  19. No Haikus this year? Black Friday is getting near! Worst GottaDeal fear.
  20. I just got an email with a 48" TV giveaway. I guess Black Friday is dying
  21. Do you really want open microphones all over your home? Do you trust Amazon with conversations had in 'the privacy of your home'?
  22. OP was talking about $250-300 laptops or desktops. You cannot build a PC to match the required specs for $300. A Gen 6 i5 processor costs $200. Windows costs $100. A 1t disk costs $50. 8g of RAM costs $50. $100 for a monitor. A case, power supply, mouse, and keyboard will cost $100. So, that is $600. Plus shipping. What's your time worth? What is things don't work out? The i5 and i7 desktops on this ad... http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/black-friday-1690-HPPavilionDesktopwCorei58GB1TB.html are $360 and $500; add a 24" display for $100 (same ad) for less money or more computer with no hassles.
  23. I see a lot of trees in the ads. We are interested in replacing ours with something which requires little or no assembly but is durable and attractive. Any recommendations are welcome.
  24. Overwatch is the more demanding game. Essentially, requiring an i3/i5 with accelerator. Integrated graphics of a 6th generation i5 or i7 should get the job done. You can certainly get an i5 cor $300. If you can go to $450, you can get an i7 laptop. Check out the third link below to see restrictions for playing each. http://venturebeat.com/2016/05/25/overwatch-is-shockingly-playable-on-a-laptop-without-a-graphics-card/ http://eu.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/17611951903 http://www.notebookcheck.net/Overwatch-Notebook-and-Desktop-Benchmarks.166833.0.html(scroll down to restrictions) http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/black-friday-1641-HP156Corei7Laptopw8GB1TB.html http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/black-friday-4049-Acer156Corei5Laptopw6GB1TBOnlineOnly.html Also, consider A10 laptops. I have not been there for a long time and have concerns about heat, but they are supposed to be better gamers than comparably priced i core machines... http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/black-friday-323-HP156AMDA10Laptopw8GB1TBOnlineOnly.html Personally, I would go with a PS4 or an Xbox One especially in the $2-300 range. 25. The answer is almost certainly no. First step is to identify the games that he wants to play. Come back with the list and we can look over the computers.
