  1. I had to work really hard to get my money back. I just kept on them for probably an hour and had to counter every other offer they made me (which was pretty easy, just told we tried and it broke, over and over again). The rep finally said I could take it back to lowes to exchange it and gave me a code. After I got the code I asked if I had to exchange because I was not hauling that thing out of my basement, into the truck and then drive the 25 miles to Lowes. He finally said I could just take the code to lowes and they would take care of it. I just went up the CS and told them I had a refund code for a whirlpool water heater and they processed it right away and handed me cash. You really have to bug the phone rep to get one. I was very polite but I made sure he understood that every other "remedy" had been tried and did not work for long. I've had a few other friends try this and they were all able to get a code and get their money back. They told my hubby no a lot too before I finally got on the line :) It just takes some persistance.
  2. We had the same problem. It took us 5 days to get it fixed and I ended up having my brother install the new part, it was really easy. About 3 months later it happened again! Now some people may consider this part dishonest but about 3 weeks after we got the 2nd replacement part I called and told them it broke again and to send me another part. They did and about 2 months later it went out again and we replaced it that same day. I normally wouldn't condone lying but everyone we talked to said it would happen again so I figured I was just saving myself from a week of no hot water. After the 4th time I called and talked to a manager who gave me a code to take to Lowes to get my money back. Lowes was really nice about it and gave me a full refund even tho I lost the receipt somewhere between the 3rd and 4th replacements. I got my money back and am now saving up for a tankless water heater and whirlpool is still honoring the warranty on the one we have. I have another spare part waiting for when it goes out again. I've had this water heater for less than a year! I had to be pretty persistent to get the code for the refund but it was worth it.
  3. I believe all of the big companies now ship everything with some version of vista. For the last year I've been downgrading all of my family and friends PCs and laptops to xp pro. There are lots of laptops under $400 out there that are good for basic computing. I would just look at staples.com or newegg.com. I use pretty high end machines so I don't know exactly what is out there but you should be able to find a low end dual core with 1G of Ram for around $400 just don't expect to find anything but intel integrated video cards. HTH!
  4. It's actually an ADDITIONAL 70% OFF on clearance! My hubby is gonna kill me!
  5. When I was in college majoring in photography we had people call up to hire us as photographers. I would call around to some nearby colleges and talk to the photography instructors. They will be able to tell you if they have any students that they think will be able to do it. They may not have a huge wedding portfolio to show you but they will definitely have other work so you can get a feel for them. I know the wedding I shot in college turned out great and I only charged $100 or so. You may also see if they have a graphic design department with any students interested in designing invitations, announcements, programs or anything like that. I know I did a lot of that stuff in college to build my portfolio. HTH!
  6. The price and specs are nice but I've had trouble with gateways for a while. I build my own systems but my dad and grandparents have gateways and something always seems to go wrong. I've seen the memory fail, the hard drive crash and motherboard fry. It only has a 90 day warranty and is refurb, if it was new I would say go for it. The specs are nice, I'm just not too trusting of a gateway refurb. HTH
  7. Just an FYI, The main difference between the PS2 version and the others are that you can download additional songs on the other systems. With the PS2 you only get the songs that come preloaded. The PS2 version also won't let you customize your characters or go on tour or any of the fun extras that the others have. All you get to do is play the songs with characters the game selects for you. The world tour and character creation are really fun and make the game alot more personal. A suppose a younger kid wouldn't mind but my DH and I along with our friends (all in our early to mid 20s) wouldn't have near as much fun if one of our friends didn't have the xbox 360 version. I personally would wait until Rockband 2 comes out since the instruments are getting some major improvements. The instruments will be interchangeable but the Rockband 2 ones have some much needed improvements. I would just wait for 2 and buy the bundle and buy just the game disk for 1. JMHO
  8. BTW PS2 Rockband actually comes with PS3 instuments. When we opened ours the individual boxes that the instruments are in said Playstation 3 Guitar, Drums, Microphone. There was a pink sticker on the box that said PS2 Compatible. If your wanting the PS3 version this would probably be the way to go. You can always take the gamedisk to gamestop and trade it towards the PS3 version and save some money. It would also work as an easy way to get the extra guitar and then have the drums and mic as backups.
  9. BTW they ship to APO/FPO addresses for no additional charge but you have to call to place your order. I just sent one to my sister in South Korea. A lot of places like this add a $10-15 fee for APO/FPOs so I think I found a new treat shop for my sister!
  10. I know I got paid $100 a week when I was 15 to watch 2 kids for 40 hours a week. That was also 8 years ago so I don't know what it would be now. We live in a small town in OK so regular day care is really cheap, the couple I did it for just didn't want their kids in day care. I think they also gave me and extra $30-40 a week for ordering pizza and rewarding the kids if they were good with a goody from the ice cream truck. The extra money was never part of my pay necessarily, just extra to pay for treats or if we wanted pizza for lunch so whatever was left over was given back to them. They also paid for the groceries for 1-2 meals a day for me while I was there. I would figure out how much you can afford and put an ad in the paper advertising it and see who you get. If you don't like the people that will do it for that price then you may have to up the price a little to get better people. I did it for a friend of my mom and she liked that she knew me and that my mom was only a few blocks away if things got out of control. Hope that helps!
  11. I was getting ready to post this! This even gives you a 10% discount on Electronics, Floor Care, Furniture & Mattresses, Personal Care & Fitness, Small Appliances, Strollers & Carseats and Catalog Outlet Stores. It's been forever since I've seen a discount work on furniture! Time to order my new bedroom suite!
  12. Thank you OP! My Chihuahua gets cold really easy and petsmarts ex-small size is the only thing that fits her. She really needs new "clothes", she is pretty hard on them!
  13. Wow! I just got http://www.coldwatercreek.com/Products/Product.aspx?productid=38110&ensembleid=43889&Skn=outlet for 12.48 shipped! I'm not sure where I'll ever wear it but I couldn't pass it up!
  14. I hope this is the correct forum. Sorry if it's long! I just thought I would let everyone know what Directtv tried to do to me. I got got on their website to find out about moving my service to our new house. I kept seeing the ad on how moving your service is free and easy, I even read all the fine print I could find. I call them and at the end of the call the agent quickly mentions the 1 year contract I agreed to when doing the move order. I stop and tell him I don't want a contract (mine expired last month) and he then offers to have the service moved without the contract for a $99 fee. I then told him I would cancel my service and he asked me to hold for a few minutes. He can back and offered 50% off the install fee which I declined, then he offered 80% off at which point I told him it was the principle of the thing, not the money, then he finally agreed to waive the entire fee. Just wanted to let anyone who is moving know about this. I think it stinks that they advertise it as free but in reality you have to sign a 1 year contract, which to me is not free. I'm sure many of you are good at haggling with your service providers but just wanted to let you in on this little bit of info! oh, and my account was credited the $99 so I'm pretty sure he wasn't just blowing smoke!
  15. I've bought a few grocery items there, mostly chips or crackers...and occasionally chocolate covered raisins! I wouldn't go there specifically to buy groceries but what I've picked up has been good. I've tried a few of the off brand chips and crackers and they were pretty good, all the brand name stuff has been fresh. I love to hit them up after halloween. Ours has costumes (princess, pirate, pretty common costumes) that are a steal for $1 but when they go 50%-75% off I stock up for my nieces birthday parties (all the kids dress up and play all over my SILs back yard). I've never seen anything go clearance that wasn't seasonal. I like their wrapping paper and gift bags and some of their other party stuff.
  16. I ordered 2 beauty sets when the beauty40 first came out and was told estimated delivery on 12/24 but I got them in yesterday. I think right now they are playing careful with estimated arrival dates. I'm sure they would have some really angry people if they told them it would arrive 12/24 but it didn't get there until 12/26. I've seen them do this every christmas. One thing to help, if the package is going to be at the final distribution center before it actually goes out for delivery before christmas (i.e. it gets to the center at 3 pm 12/24 but won't be delivered to your house until 12/26) you can call and they will hold it there for you to pick up. I've done that several times, mostly when I was going to be going out of town the next day and didn't want a package sitting on my doorstep for a week. I don't know what to say about the run around on the boots. I miss when you could call UPS and just give them your address and they would tell you if you had anything on the way. Now they require a tracking number. My sis who works for UPS said too many people were calling in with their neighbors addresses and then stealing the packages while people were at work. Dishonest people always make it harder for the honest people. I hope some of this helps and I hope santa is able to deliver the boots for your little girl! Happy Holidays!
  17. I don't think anyone is taking pre-orders anymore. My DH worked at Gamestop and the pre-order systam allows them to know how many each store needs so they can spread the wealth a little bit. They would stop pre-orders on most games 3-4 weeks before release unless pre-orders were really slow and they knew their inventory could cover it. If you need all of the instuments definately buy the bundle, it's much cheaper but if you have 2 guitars for GH and a mic (I don't know about compatibilty) you would probably be better getting the game and them the individual instument when they become available. The game itself for ps2 in 49.99 the instuments for the ps3 (can't find ps2 prices...ps2 will probably be $10 cheaper) are Drum kit 79.99 Mic 29.99 wireless guitar 59.99 I would probably still go with the bundle even if I had everything but the drum kit and the game itself, you never know when the kiddos might bust a guitar or mic and the bundle price is pretty good. The wireless guitar controllers that walmart had on BF for $30 are excellent guitars. I bought 2 and then got online to look at reviews so I could take them back if they weren't good but every review said they were far batter than the red octane and frontman guitars. We love them. They feel a little flimsier but are actually really sturdy and they have a much better response and have held up good to my cats attacking them (crazy felines) and I know that our walmart still has quite a few left for $30. I think ppl were turned off b/c no one had heard of the brand (myself included) but they really are great guitars. Red octane actually sued them 2 years ago because they were so similar to the ones that they made.
  18. I got an email this morning saying my order would ship soon...I hope they mean really soon! I ordered on Sunday, not sure why nothing has shipped yet, seems kinda strange. If I don't get a shipping confirmation by tomorrow I'm gonna call and see what's going on. VS usually ships pretty quick, I know it's christmas but geez!

  20. when I got to the payment page I found Tanzanite Sterling Silver Flower Pendant Gift in my cart for free. I guess it's a free gift, not sure what it takes to qualify for it though. I ordered 1 pair of earrings and 2 pendants and chose the cheapest shipping. The free pendant is really cute and is going to make a great gift for my niece. good luck
  21. what I find funny is that the blitz items with different upc codes don't go to normal price after the blitz sale is over. I had bought one of the I-dogs last year for my niece only to find out my other niece wanted one too. It was the first week of december and I went to walmart and decided to just buy one at regular price, better than a fight breaking out on christmas. I got to where they were on the shelf and saw one in the black box which was the BF packaging, so I scanned it and it rang up $10. I also found a few of the cabbage patch dolls and the Little People playset and they all rang up at the bf price. I bought all of it to donate to the salvation army angel tree since the tree at work was still almost full of names. I wouldn't recomend waiting until after bf to get an item, but if you miss out on it you may check back periodically, I don't know if they were returns or if they just didn't sell but they were still there.
  22. I've done this a lot, but last week I had maybe 10 items and the lines at the front were 12 people deep so I went back to automotive and still had to wait for 25-30 mins because everyone else had the same idea I had. I've made friends with a lady at our walmart and saw her one day when I was checking out in the garden department and I asked her what was going on with the lines and she said that they can't find anyone to pass the drug test. I'm in northern Oklahoma but I've heard people say similar things about other places. She said that out of every 10 applicants they get, only one or two will pass the drug test. IMO if they payed their employees a little more they would get better people to apply. As it is we have several grocery stores around and they don't have that problem, but they pay $1-2 over minimum wage. I'll get off my soap box now.
  23. I saw some at Toys R Us a few weeks ago, they were probably 4 feet long...maybe a little bigger. I had to drag myself away from it (my niece got my love for unicorns). I think they were around $60, which is why I had to drag myself away from it. I hope this helps!
  24. We're lucky, one of our friends works the graveyard shift at walmart and we always call him when we're on our way and meet up with him somewhere in the store and he'll give us his map that the employees use to get the pallets in the right spot. I know it's sort of cheating but the first year we went to walmart we just happened to run into him and asked him if he knew where something was and he handed us the map and has called us every year since and asked if we want a map. We share the info we get with other people because there is no order to where anything is put.
  25. I don't know about every BF shopper but the ad is what gets me in the store. I usually buy plenty of things that aren't on sale so saying we only pick up the really cheap stuff is a very bad generalization. I am a bit of an impulse buyer so getting me in the store on the one day a year I am supposed to spend money would be really good for them. The way they set up the pallets forces you to walk around the store instead of going straight to the item you want. While searching for the pallets I almost always find something else I want or "need" and pick it up along the way. I really don't think the leaked ad affects the prices at other stores as much as they would have us think. Walmart's ad got posted 3 or 4 weeks early, along with a slew of other stores which means all of those stores already had their ads printed. I guess they could do a quick adjustment but getting new ads to everybody early enough would probably prove too difficult. I know I'll be driving an hour away to go to Target and the mall instead of spending my morning at Walmart. They can kiss my money good-bye.
