  1. being a nurse we are open 24/7/365. It is basically luck of the draw. This year- my luck has run out. Thats ok- next year I'm having surgery in November so I can be off for BF and for Thanksgiving- guaranteed! This year- I plan on hitting as many blitz sales before then and just being mindful. I already started shopping for the holiday.
  2. Digital camera is definately a good one that I have seen posted- rechargable batteries, gift cards, luggage- as a hint of what you expect in the future. . I have a 15 and 16 year old daughters. They both have gotten digital cameras, luggage, last year my oldest got her class ring. I'm now trying to decide what futuristic item to get her this year. I know for her senior year it will be something college related- mini-fridge, microwave, etc. I am faced however with the delimma of what to get the tween boy. Tween girls are a lot easier than boys. I'm just glad he used his detasseling money to get a Wii. It adds more options for me.
  3. As soon as someone hears when the friends and family sale is please let me know. I won't be able to BF shop this year so I'm doing a lot of the blitz sales before and then doing a lot of stuff after.
  4. The fun of the day is always worth it. I was watching a Wed. night show last night that I had taped since I was traveling and not near a TV and saw all the ads- wished I could go back and do it over again. Hit Penny's, Sears, FYE, Target, Herbergers, Walgreens, Lids, Gamestop, Walmart, Menards, Lowes, and Pro-stop as well as a few stores walked in and left- Old Navy, and Sheels. Was with my middle daughter- and we split a meal at Fudruckers. Great mommy-daughter time. My mother in another town hit the doorbusters at Walmart, Shopko, Herbergers and Menards.
  5. My senior year my mother was laid off from a position she had held for close to 20 years. The only income we had was disability through Social Security for my dad. We did have some Christmas however it was my first non-fun Christmas. They had fortunately ordered my luggage already as that was the "traditional" gift that my parents gave us for our senior year at Christmas. It was a learning lesson and has proven helpful during the years that Christmases for us were slim. Hang in there and try to keep your head up.
  6. I've never noticed before as I don't shop CVS very often but I do have a card. The ECB program- how does that work? Does it come off the price when you are at the store or is a check mailed- I'm just confused.

  8. I would say for me the funnest BF were 2002-2005. Places priced matched- good selections at least for our region. Last year was a little bit of a dud and this year is looking to not be much better. Maybe it is that my kids are getting older and as the kids get older Christmas just becomes less fun. Oh well- better luck next year.
  9. I had earlier commented that I would be spending about the same amount but truthfully looking at the lists of what I have to buy I would like to recant and say it is going to be less. Kids are probably getting some group presents and their rooms redecorated. I just don't think the holiday is all that whoopty doo this year. Stuff just didn't go on sale because retailers can't afford for them to go on sale- I question though- can they afford NOT to put the stuff on sale?
  10. Wheres Shopko? Haven't seen heard anything from them yet about anything.
  11. With Santa we went with the same tradition that my family did. Santa brings stockings. The gifts- including the big things come from mom and dad. There have been a few years that Santa has brought bigger things however those years were when the kids were younger and we were trying to surprise them with something special. This has worked out well for our family especially since a lot of Christmas's I haven't been there to start out the holiday as I'm a night nurse.
  12. The Weather channel should have their weather forcasts for the 23rd out today on the 10 day forcasts however weather changes so much in 10 days- you can't ever be for sure even the day of. The National Weather service tends to be more accurate for our neck of the woods since they forcast from Nebraska and not outside Nebraska. Believe it or not- the forcasts when snow is forcast is OFTEN differant. Black Hills of South Dakota (where we will be)- Nov 21 - Snow showers. 50% chance Highs in the mid 30s and lows in the mid 20s. Nov 22 - 20 % chance precipitation Considerable cloudiness. Highs in the low 40s and lows in the upper 20s. Nov 23- 10% chance precipitation Mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the low 40s and lows in the upper 20s. Central Nebraska (where we live)- Nov 21- 50% chance showers. Highs in the mid 40s and lows in the mid 20s. Nov 22- 60% chance snow showers. Highs in the low 40s and lows in the mid 20s. Nov 23- 30 % chance snow Snow showers at times. Highs in the mid 40s and lows in the mid 20s. Western Nebraska (By North Platte) Nov 21 30% chance snow showers. A few snow showers. Highs in the upper 30s and lows in the low 20s. Nov 22 20% chance snow showers. Mostly Cloudy. Highs in the low 40s and lows in the low 20s. Nov 23 30% chance snow showers. A few snow showers. Highs in the mid 40s and lows in the low 20s. Lincoln Nebraska- Nov 21-50% chance showers. Showers. Highs in the low 50s and lows in the upper 20s. Nov 22- 60% chance snow showers. Snow showers possible. Highs in the low 40s and lows in the upper 20s. Nov 23- 40% chance snow showers. Snow showers possible. Highs in the mid 40s and lows in the upper 20s.
  13. Lowes? What time? Is it regular 7am or earlier?
  14. Check around- you will find it.
  15. I initially said that I would be spending the same amount. I still feel that this will be the case however it will be spent for things that we would have had to get later on and probably not with as much frivolity as in past.
  16. The Samsung camcorder DOES have a light but it has to be in certain settings to use it. The same camcorder is $199.99 on BF supposedly all day. The Sears I was at only had 2 in stock on F&F night however they said they could order it.
  17. Thats why I'm going cash only for BF this year. I wouldn't say that I have made stupid purchases- however I always have had impusle buys usually the DVD's is where I overspend each year. Not this year though.
  18. I bought one as a present. Was going to get my sister a coat anyhow so was happy to see the price. Both her and my mother live on extremely fixed incomes so I try to make the money I spend on Christmas stretch for them.
  19. Honestly- no one has posted a decent Nintendo DS price. Truthfully looking at my list it is getting shorter and shorter this year. The Nintendo DS will be a sticking point- if Wal-Mart has a decent price- then I can't boycott- otherwise unless something major is there I plan on not wasting my time.
  20. I got the Samsung last night. For what I planned on using it for I think it will work for the time frame I plan on using it most. The Panasonic was my first choice however with the number of things that I had that were all at differant stores on BF I bit for the friends and family sale. My kids are old enough that they shouldn't mess with it too much. I did see that KMart is going to also have a Samsung for 199.99 I'm just guessing its the same one.
  21. You can select multiple answers on this survey. I have to say- since I got my camcorder last night I won't be as vicious as I had possibly anticipated.
  22. I think I fall into multiple catagories depending how much sleep I had. I will say that although I don't consider myself a die hard and would steal to get the deal I do plan my calender around that day and wouldn't would call in sick if I had to.
  23. It will probably be around 2:30 depending where I decide to go first. Wal-Mart is still a remote possibility which if they do have a Nintendo DS for cheap it will probably be closer to 11:00 pm. If that is what I'm after at Wally world you can bet I would try to be the first in line for that item. Holly- don't let the posts alarm you. A lot of the people who are posting about Thanksgiving Day line-ups are usually lining up for BB or CC. There are a few places where Wal-Mart might pose that possibility. Last year was the earliest I went and it was around 2:00 am. Usually I leave home sometime around 3:00 am and have plenty of time to get what I'm after. ONE THING THAT HELPS ME KEEP UP A POSITIVE AND FUN ATTITUDE- Everything I get that day is a bonus buy. Very few things will make or break Christmas and if I feel there is something that would do that I make that store my first stop.
