  1. I need info on speakers/sound bars and on turntables on Black Friday- can anyone help, please? I'd like to get a basic speaker or stereo system for my parents' TV. My dad's hearing is going, so I'd like to hook up a speaker or two that I can set near his chair, so he doesn't have to turn the TV up so loud anymore. He's tried the wireless headphones, but they're uncomfortable to him so he quit using them. They don't need a built-in DVD player or anything like that. And if I could find something for under $50, I'm thinking of getting one for my place as well, to set next to my exercise bike (unless someone knows of wireless earbuds/small wireless headphones that would work on a TV?)... Also, I've been trying 2 years straight to get my brother a turntable so he can convert all of his old albums to either CDs or digital-- the first year, the old-fashioned looking stereo was a refurb that didn't work from the get-go, and I just found out that the turntable I bought last year only worked for a little while then quit! I've seen a couple turntables in the BF ads I've looked at so far, but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on this? I need to keep this gift to $40-50 or under, unless I can convince my sister to help (still would probably need to be under $75 even then)... Any help would be greatly appreciated on these-- thanks in advance!! Oh, and if anyone would like to discuss any other BF audio equipment, feel free to use this thread for that, too!
  2. Can someone help with breaking down pros/cons of the various printers on sale on BF, please? My church badly needs a new printer/copier, and as part of their audio-visual/IT team, I'd like to be able to help them get a great deal on one-- but I'm more of a self-taught AV person, so I'm totally lost on this! We need the capability to copy probably around 200 B&W pages each Sunday and the ability to wirelessly connect the pastor's laptop and the AV/IT team's desktop to print. We've never had color copying/printing so that's not a big concern-- but money spent on the printer & ink cartridges will be a concern, as we're a small country church! I don't know what the budget will be for this, but I'd like to know how much to recommend we spend to get what we need. So any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance!! Oh, and if anyone else has questions/comments/concerns about other printers or print needs, feel free to use this thread to discuss those, too!
  3. I am so thankful that you all have chosen to share your hurt and longings with each other, to remind us that we are not alone when it comes to not being "in it" at this time of the year. Three years ago, I helped my church put together a "Blue Christmas" service, which is designed especially for those who are hurting (due to death, illness, divorce, financial struggles, or even just the stress of the season) to have a time to reflect and find comfort... Below is a poem I found online that year, as I was researching things to do and share at the service; I wanted to share it with you all as well and pray that you will find something in this that may lighten the load you carry this year, even if it's just a little...
  4. I love this idea for a couple big reasons:1) Shopping local stores helps small business owners in your area (& in today's Walmart-shopping world, they need all the help they can get); and 2) You will have a chance to see the items up close & personal to make sure it's what you want, and you could probably even have the items personalized (either with the company logo/name or their own names)-- and I believe all of that would make the gifts mean more to your employees, even if it meant not buying as "nice-looking" of a gift as you might get elsewhere! I would start with screenprinting shops (they typically carry a lot of neat stuff), maybe check with a leatherworking or metalworking shop, or even a local pottery-making shop or community art center!
  5. Our station that plays Christmas music has been switching over earlier every year-- and I just saw on Facebook that they started today! I normally only listen to Christian music (KLOVE) and probably still will of the mornings, but I know where my radio will be tuned for the drive home starting this afternoon! I completely agree with you on this! I know there have been a couple times where our family wasn't able to all get together until a day or two after Christmas (and I'm sure other folks go thru the same thing)... It's just like, they start earlier and earlier every year trying to get people in the Christmas "mood," but then as soon as 11:59pm on December 25th is over-- so sorry, Cinderella's fairy godmother has snapped her fingers and it's all over! (So, can you tell I LOVE the Christmas season?! LOL)
  6. In addition to a lot of the suggestions already mentioned, I like to keep an eye out for cheap magazine subscriptions (there are lots of neat magazines for those into fitness/health stuff, too). And if it ends up being too close to Christmas for the first issue (or a card from the company) to get there in time, I'll buy the current issue at the store and put it with a copy of my reciept for the subscription! Another idea is a gift card for iTunes and/or Amazon, especially for those who like to download music, books, etc... And for the college freshman (or anyone who's away from "home" for the holidays), don't underestimate the value of something small that would remind them of home-- local products that he can't get where he is now (i.e. a certain brand of chips or a stack of cookies from a favorite hometown bakery); something handmade by you or your kids, along with a photo of the person & item while it's being made (i.e. a hand-drawn picture or other craft, or some homemade snack mix); or pictures (or postcards) of places around home (with or without a short story/memory on the back), with a couple of those clear, hard plastic frames that you can find at Walmart for a couple dollars, so they can be displayed.... Hope these help!
  7. First, I wanted to thank you for being so thoughtful and appreciative-- being in any kind of service business can seem like a thankless job sometimes! I like the idea of hand lotion, especially if you can find one that's really moisturizing, long-lasting, & not heavily scented so she could use it at work without bothering the animals or other humans. And since I'm sure she spends many hours on her feet each day, maybe something nice for her feet, too-- like those really soft, lotion-infused socks?? Then if you wanted to add a little something else, a little container of bath salts or bubble bath might be nice, so she can relax after a long day's work... :) Or you could call and talk to one of her office assistants and see if they had any suggestions/ideas...
  8. Too cool-- been looking for a good deal on Simple & Delicious mag! Thanks much, OP!! :)
  9. I've never bought from DiscountMags.com BF sale before-- do they only have a limited number of each of these magazines that will be available, or can you get any of these any time during the sale? I likely won't be able to get online again until Monday 11/28, so I'm just wondering if I'll still be able to get whatever I want from there by then... TIA!
  10. For those of you who do a binder-- do you put the actual ads in there when they come out, or print out the ads from here to put in there? Do you punch holes in all the pages, or put each ad in a clear sleeve inside the binder? Then do you pull out the ad for the store you're at and just take it in, or take the whole binder in? How do you organize any lists, coupons, pricematching ads, etc. in the binder? TIA for any helpful tips/advice! :) I usually take all the ads I need with me in a bag, but like several have said, they end up all over the floor by the time I'm done, so I was considering doing some sort of binder this year, too!
  11. Update: On a couponing board where I'm a regular, someone posted the below listing of what will be in the Dollar General 4-day sale (Nov 20-23)... 12. Thanks, Brad! DG is 2 miles from my house, while all others are 10+ miles, so I may actually make it there on Thanksgiving Day! LOL Liking the Dr. Pepper, lightbulbs, and Hot Wheels deals... and is it sad that I'm tempted to get the Atari for myself?! FYI-- I also heard from one of the cashiers at my local DG that there will be a good 4-day sale from Sunday thru Wednesday before Thanksgiving. She couldn't remember all the deals, but did mention Libby canned veggies will be $0.40 each (and there were coupons for those in last Sunday's paper)! HTH someone! :)
  13. Wish I could get to Meijer on Thanksgiving-- love the $20 coupon with the $99.99 Bunn coffeemaker! That's the kind of coffeemaker my parents use (and love!), and $99 was the cheapest they could get it a few years ago, so this would be an awesome deal! And the Hot Wheels & Matchbox cars for $0.60 would make great stocking stuffers or to save for the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes for next year! :)
  14. Saw a couple things I'm interested in, but won't be able to make it to the actual store on BF... Does anyone know if these 2 items will be available online or if I might be able to price-match them somewhere (or maybe even find a comparable deal pre-BF)? TIA!! --Life Smart Infrared Quartz Heater- $79.99 (page 13) --iLive App-Enhanced Speaker with Dock for the iPad or iPhone- $29 (page 32)
  15. My understanding of this is: if you buy a product and get RR back for it, then do a 2nd transaction to buy another of the SAME product and use those particular RR on that order, you will not get RR for the 2nd transaction. HTH! :)
  16. My mom is my best friend, too, so I often share the same (wonderful) "problem" about gift ideas! :) One thing I started doing in recent years is: every Christmas, I get her one really nice outfit (or sweater set) to be her "New Year's outfit." She rarely spends much on clothes for herself, and if I watch the clearance racks at Sears, Macy's, etc, I always manage to find something nice that I know she'll love! (And no, she doesn't actually go anywhere special for New Year's, but it gives me an excuse to buy something nice for her and gives her an excuse to dress up and feel beautiful for no particular reason-- so it's a win-win for both of us! ) Oh, and besides her special outfit, I also try to get her a few smaller "indulgences" that she rarely buys for herself, like a box of choc-covered cherries (she loves them), some cute fuzzy socks, a fabric calendar to match her kitchen ($2 at Family Dollar store), etc...
  17. I see some Thursday only deals, but shouldn't there be some Friday only deals, too? I noticed the missing Patriot candles, too, as well as no deals on bows or other wrapping stuff. I'm wondering if there might be some more of those shorter pages somewhere that didn't make it to this ad scan... ???
  18. A couple years ago, my mom and I made trivets for her to give as family gifts. We got the idea when we found some beige 6" ceramic tiles on closeout for really cheap at Lowe's or Home Depot. We added some nice rub-on transfers of ivy leaves to a couple corners of each tile and painted each family's last intial in dark green in the middle, then did a couple layers of sealer over all of them. Finally, we bought a roll of thin self-stick cork and covered the backs with that. Everyone LOVED them! I've been wanting to do the same thing with smaller tiles to make coasters, but I never think to look for the tiles at the right time- LOL! Here's a tutorial for a really nice photo coaster that I found while looking for ideas for our tiles... and another page with several ideas that might interest you! Good luck, and have fun!! :)
  19. Great, thanks! :) But is it just me, or is the bottom of the 3rd page in the PDF file missing? Below Santa and the "4 Days Only!" part, I see what looks to be a gun safe, a corduroy jacket, and some RedHead shirts, but it cuts off before the description and any other items on the page. Is this all we have of that page, or did it not go thru correctly for some reason?
  20. First time I remember seeing a preview of Cabela's ad-- does anyone know if these items and prices are typically the same across the country, since the bottom of the ad says it's for the Hamburg, PA location only? Also, how many (if any) of the doorbusters are typically available online? Thanks for another great ad, Brad! :)
  21. Based on last year's ad, I think you are correct about it possibly not being the whole ad, Brad... Last year, there were 4 pages of "5 hour only" BF deals, 8 pages of "4 days only" deals (starting on Thanksgiving Day); then the top of the first page of the regular ad was almost identical to the first page of this one (Santa with a little girl in his lap, advertising a free photo with Santa). I hope someone finds and submits the rest of the ad for us-- thanks for posting what ya have so far! :)
  22. Would it be possible to get your kids out of the house for a while on Christmas Eve (say, a "last minute" trip to the store with Grandma or something)? Then while they're out, one of "Santa's elves" could stop by with a special delivery and a note from Santa, saying something about having his elf deliver the gifts a few hours earlier this year, since they're living in a different house that isn't on the same route as the old one. Personalize the letter with things like, "Those chocolate chip cookies and eggnog you left me last year were delicious, even though I think your cat Fluffy had a few nibbles, too. :) Oops, so sorry- I just spilled my chocolate milk on the corner of your letter!" or maybe reference back to their Santa letters That way, you don't have to try to explain why their cousin is opening gifts early or worry that your son may have more "questions." And, to keep that special "Christmas morning experience" alive, Santa's letter can explain that there are some extra-special gifts marked "Do Not Open Until December 25th" (see if you can get your sis-in-law to agree to do this with one of her son's gifts too, to make it even better) and that he'll be watching to make sure they wait till Christmas morning for those! Just some ideas-- feel free take any pieces or parts of them or change them around as needed! :)
  23. Not seeing as many good deals in this ad as I did in CVS... but I do like the Home Depot GC deal (buy $50 gc, get $10 +up rewards)-- that would come in very handy for someone planning to go to Home Depot on BF too (or as a gift)! Thanks again, Brad!! :)
  24. Some nice recliner deals, but still a little out of my price range... Thanks for the ad, Brad! :)
