  1. I only wish it had an eSATA port on it to hook up and external high speed drive instead of USB
  2. It gave me 15% of of sale price items
  3. I don't think that is a good DVD player to begin with. I went with the Prime and toys.
  4. If you have a lot of Christmas battery needs you might want to look into rechargables. Check batteryspace.com. CH-P2888 Compact Charger + 4AAA 850 + 4 AA 2300 +2 /9.0 V 170mAh $18.99 Link Buy some extra AAs. After getting a digital camera I was burning AA batteries 8 a day. With rechargables I can go two days before swapping them. Just makes sure you get the 2000mAh and above.
  5. Wow...should we really prepare our kids for such instant gratification. Tell them to plug the stupid things in and while they are charging spend time with the family...help with dinner....sit on the porch with you grandfather/uncle/family friend. Do you want them to immediatley disapear and not see them till the movies are over?
  6. Mostly the theory from the guys who work at Best Buy and others. If you haven't noticed there is an orchestrated effort to destroy Wal Mart. If you can't match their prices the best thing to do is to destroy consumer confidence. They have been trying for years to get the employees to unionize but they can't stand the fact that the Wal Mart employees are generally happy with working there. Makes the Union leaders madder than the 16th person in that laptop line. If you buy a bad HP laptop you are not going to take it out on Wal Mart. You are going to take it out on HP. HP does deal in B grade materials like you mentioned. A common place to find these are places like Ebay, Computer Geeks, Ubid. They have had the brand name removed but you can see they are an HP. Hp is not going to risk losing a lifetime customer to Dell by selling defective merchandise. I have been a tech and a systems integrator for a lot of years. The first thirty days for a computer are the worst. We call that infant mortality. If you get through that you should do just great with it as long as you take care of it. Be consious of the following: HEAT KILLS, buy a laptop cooler. (or a piece of unpainted aluminum) Do not block the output air venting ports. A lot of heat is generated by charging the battery. If you are going to leave it plugged in, take the battery out. You can buy the extended warranty through HP. If you register the machine they will send you an email when your warranty is to run out and will give you one last chance to get the extended warranty. But you don't have to wait. The extended Warranty does not cover the screen, or damage from a drop. This is called accident protection and costs a lot more. Check you homeowners insurance they usually have a computer rider that covers those but you can probably only get away with using it once. The $400 laptops are just not that powerful. They are designed for the web surfer who doesn't do any 3D stuff. (This actually describes about 40% of the market) But Walmart is not the only place to find them.
