  1. Got all the way to confirm order, clicked it and nothing happened :-( Hope others had better luck!!
  2. Looks like they may have a 19" LCD Tv for $99 but the scan is cut off and you can't see all of it. Maybe Brad can help out on this one.
  3. I picked up the one from Walgreens last year to use in our department to view training dvd's for one or two people at a time. It has a great picture although we have never hooked up an antenna to try out the digital tuner. Kohl's has one this year for 69.99 but I think that's after rebate. I will be trying to score one too. I will be looking for one that is able to run on batteries, if there is such a thing. I haven't been able to find out too many details on that aspect though. I have seen one of these types of TV's advertised somewhere that says it cannot be used while in motion, like in a moving car. Can't remember where I saw that one, so be careful if that will be an issue for you. I have a portable 5" black and white which I used to use for emergencies since we have satellite TV and it goes out just when you need it most in severe weather and no electricity. Since the switch to digital TV it is now worthless. I am going to take it with me the next time I go to Mexico or the carribean and trade it for a souvenier or something since it will still work just fine those places.
  4. Is there even gonna be a Black Friday this year?? No amazing deals yet...maybe Walmart will do something worth getting up early. As it is so far, I may get to sleep in for the first time in 15 years.
  5. Thanks to the OP!! This free shipping offer is still working after you sign up and I just used it today!!
  6. 720p models are hovering around $900-1000 now and I was hoping for a crazy deal on an Optoma or something like that for $500-600. On the other hand, if someone had a 1080p for around $1000-1500 I'd have to beg the accountant (wife) for some financial leeway and buy that sucker before she had time to change her mind!! Last year it seemed like lots of deals were out there, new and refurbed, this year nothing. I have an inFocus SP4805 with Faroudja processing. It is only 480p, native 16:9, but with DVI input it looks really great. My seating distance is 17ft from 110" screen. Thinking I might go Bluray this year and that means at least 720p on the projector. If there are no deals on the projector, there's no reason to go bluray.
  7. I was hoping to upgrade to a 720p projector this year, or maybe even a 1080p, but I haven't seen anything yet. Did I miss something??
  8. If you buy the Polaroid, get it with a credit card that automatically doubles the warranty or, if you don't have a card like that, then purchase an extended warranty. Lot's of folks have had reliabilility issues with Polaroid TV's and they don't fix them in warranty, they replace them instead because there are no parts available. After the warranty is up, if it dies, you're SOL.
  9. I don't know, maybe it's because I am in Texas and folks here generally seem to be bit more respectful of others. Now don't get me wrong, not all Texans are like that and I'm not even from Texas originally, but I have lived in several places all across the USA and things are definitely different in this state. I have only lived here since 2006 and I am really glad I made the move to the DFW area. They have a saying here for non-native Texans and it goes like this; I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could:yup:!
  10. Did anyone else know this was a Sears policy? I didn't but here is the story of how I found out about this: Went to Sears this morning to get the norelco shaver for $29.99 because I also had a manufacturer's coupon to get $5 off also. Altogether this would have been a great deal because my older shaver is getting dull and the price on the new shaver is much less than a set of new blades. So, I got to the store @ 0730 and the place was deserted, there were probably less than 8 cars in the parking lot. Went inside and they had plenty of the shavers. got to the check out and they would not take my coupon. They said, "Sears only takes our own coupons, from our own ads". I said 'Thank you very little', left the shaver at the check out, grabbed my coupon and left. On the way home I stopped at the Walmart I had to drive by on my way to get to Sears . I showed them the Sears ad, they instantly price matched it and then accepted my coupon without any hassle or questions. The Walmart people were :) smiling :) the whole time and thanked me for allowing them to do me the favor!!! Two opposite extremes in customer service. I guess that explains why Sears is on the ropes and Walmart dominates retail in the USA:rwb:. I should have just gone to Walmart in the first place and you can be sure that is what I will do in the future!!

  12. RCA has been rated one of the worst for reliability by Consumer Reports. That being said, I have a RCA 32" tube TV we got on BF 2005 for less than $200 that has been trouble free. It has a good picture on Dish Network and component hookup for dvd. I guess that makes it close to an EDTV. We got a free extended warranty for it by purchasing on credit card, but never needed to use it.
  13. There is a Sony 7.1 AV receiver in the add scan. Can anyone figure out what the price is? Starts with a 1. I can't make out the web ID either to look it up on the CC website. I just noticed this receiver also did not make the sale list for the ad.
  14. $550 in Fort Worth and still a pretty good deal @ $599 too!
  15. This weekend I found a Creative 2GB Stone MP3 player with FM tuner for $27. It is red in color. At another Target I saw only black ones and they were not on clearance.
  16. No BF for me this year either. I had some airline vouchers that were going to expire and I had to use them up. Flying to Miami on Turkey Day and will be in the Keys on BF before I head out on a cruise Saturday morning. Oh well, that's a pretty good excuse to miss out on BF I suppose.
  17. Last year Sears, Circuit City and Walmart all had projection TV's on BF. I also think Fry's had them too. Some were DLP and some were LCD. They may be bigger volume wise than a plasma or LCD flat panel, but they are very light and can easily be carried by two people since most of the volume is just empty air space between the projector and the screen. I think the one at Circuit City was Samsung for around $800 with a 50" screen so if they run them again I guess there's a chance the price would be even lower this year.
  18. About DLP; My home theater projector is FRONT PROJECTION DLP and I love it. The real issue here is not DLP, it is REAR PROJECTION and this type of TV is not all bad. First you have to know the 3 different types: CRT (possibly extinct at this point), LCD & DLP Of the 3, CRT has the best viewing angle capabilities and is the least bothered by room lighting. CRT is also the heaviest and and takes up the most room. CRT does not have expensive projection bulbs that burn out and need to be replaced after every 2000-3000 hours of viewing. I believe CRT rear projection TV's are no longer being made though. LCD rear projection TV's usually have the most limited viewing angle and are more prone to jagged edge lines being displayed due to the nature of LCD technology. Most also have bulbs that will burn out and need to be replaced. A few will have newer LED bulbs which are supposed to last much longer. DLP rear projection TV's are usually better on viewing angles and do not have jagged edge lines. Some people report seeing a "rainbow" effect at times when watching DLP and find this to be "disturbing". The only way to know if you will have this problem is to watch a display unit for a couple of minutes. I personally have never met anyone who reported this as a problem, but I have read about it on the internet. Most DLP sets will also have the same bulb issue unless they have a LED bulb. Personally I have never been impressed with Mitsubishi rear projection TV's. The picture seems grainy and washed out compared to others. However they do offfer a lot of screen size for the buck. Samsung rear projectors seem to have a very good picture and they do have a few models with the LED bulb. Sony (and I don't personally care for Sony usually) had some awesome rear projection DLP sets which they no longer make. The picture on them was as clear as looking out an open window. If anyone decides to go for a rear projection TV, think about your viewing situation- head on is best but many rear projection TV's have improved viewing angles and may work for you. Consider DLP over LCD if you do not notice any "rainbow effect". Go for LED over the standard bulb if you can. If you get one with the standard bulb, it is a good idea to ask if the extended warranty also covers bulb replacement. A 2-3 year warranty should run around $300-400 and that should be pretty close to the price of the bulb as well.
  19. I am certainly not saying don't buy a HDTV if you can afford one. The true HDTV signal will always be more detailed on a true HDTV than it will on an older set through a converter. When using a converter on an older set you should get about the same quality you get when watching a DVD and for a lot of people that will be good enough to live with.I got the converter to hook up to my old TV's in rooms (kitchen and spare bedroom) where we don't have satellite box. I have a older Toshiba 53" CRT rear projection HDTV and a Zenith (made by LG) 50" wall mounted plasma HDTV. Both have great pictures but given the current economic situation, I thought folks should be aware their with a little help from a converter their old TV isn't dead yet. As for older rabbit ears not working, I have one older set (1980's) and one newer set, both work fine for HDTV.
  20. Now that the whole HD DVD vs. Blu Ray thing is settled, I am hoping for a good deal on a projector for my home theater. I currently have an Epson SP4800 and it has been great for standard DVD on 110 inch screen. I would like to upgrade to a 720 or 1080 projector if a deal shows up for BF.
  21. Converter boxes are really cool. If your TV is s-video capable, look for a converter that is too. You will be very impressed with the picture your old TV is capable of with a set of rabbit ears and the converter!!
  22. 1. Of course there will be tax, there's always sales tax at BB. 2. You probably should already be in line if you want that deal.
  23. I have a core set of tools that are mostly craftsman and then a bunch of other tools I use every so often. Those tools are a mix of brand name I have found at yard sales, swap meets, etc, and ones I got from Harbor Freight. Many of their tools also have a lifetime warranty and they have never given me any hassle on those occasions when I had one to return. No receipt necessary, no questions, just "grab another one"!!
  24. Mio will tell you to "take next left in ** yards (or meters, if you choose, with either a US or British accent)". The operation of the unit could not be any easier as I said in my previous post. POI, speed limit, & speed cams are built in from the start. You can also add your own if you want. It is also very hackable from what I have read and there are many things you can add to the unit after it is hacked. The touch screen works very well and is easy to read both day and night. It can be set to automatically dim itself at night. Mine feels very solid and after a year of use it shows no sign of any problem. Get one, you'll be glad you did not pay a lot and you still get where you are going. The routing complaints someone voiced about other units have not occured with me. The address may be on the left or right side of the road but it has never sent me the wrong way on a one way street.
