what clothing brand do you buy for your kids?
AndreaInNC replied to nelly's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
It depends on the age of the kids. When my kids were small, I bought stuff for dirt cheap on clearance at Target, so I didn't really care about the quality since it was so inexpensive. Now that they are teens, I shop for them alot at places that sell name brands for less .. like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Rugged Warehouse and even resale places like Plato's Closet. I refuse to spend alot of money on clothes for fashion fickle teens! -
Stealing or Getting Lucky.... What do you think?
AndreaInNC replied to maplegirl's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
If I was in the parking lot, I'd go back. If I was home already before I noticed, I'd have to think about it. But I honestly watch everything that is rung up to make sure that I'm getting the right price, so I would have noticed it when the cashier hit the "total" button. So to all those folks who would keep it - would you go back if they charged you twice? If you say yes - than what's the difference? A mistake is a mistake and everyone is human and everyone makes them. -

FYI .. you can go to the outlet malls website and find your local outlet. They always put up a flyer that shows what everyone is doing special! -
? for those who shop outlets at midnight on Black Friday
AndreaInNC replied to stacya's topic in 2008
I've done the midnight madness now for the past 2 years and the one in Smithfield, NC is crazy. Like other outlets, people park on the expressway because they get tired of sitting in traffic. I know it took me twice as long as normal to get there last year. It really depends on what you are looking for. I love to hit the Banana Republic outlet because they run a take 40% off the entire store, and that includes clearance items. Last year the line to check out was running about 45 minutes and the line to try on was just as long. The Gap outlet is also another one with huge checkout lines. The Yankee Candle outlet limits the number of folks inside the store, so you always have to wait for that one. Since gas has come down almost $1 a gallon, I might just do it again this year. It's about an hour from my house, so with gas at over $4 a gallon, it was a no-go. But gas is now down to $2.50 a gallon, so it might be worth it! -

They also have the bundle on sale too for $64.99. The bundle includes 1 guitar. The Wii system has their own guitar which is not compatible with the other systems because of the plug for the remote. But, if you have the original Wii GH - you don't need another guitar - unless you just want to have 2. -

The holidays are equally hard for me as well. I lost my dad 15 years ago and it just seems like it was last year. Time does make it easier, but it's still hard. He died December 5th. He was an avid golfer, so that year I had bought him a golf ball Christmas ornament. It hangs on my tree every year and I always say a prayer for him while I'm putting it up on the tree. I lost my mom in May of 2006. She gave me and my sibs an ornament every year once we left her home. I hang those ornaments on my tree every year and remember her as well. I know that you can also find ornaments for those who have passed on and you could hang one in memory of someone you lost. I like the one Hallmark has this year http://www.hallmark.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10051&storeId=10001&partNumber=QXG6274_DK&rank=P1R1S&searchValue=remember+me+ornament&fromSearch=true Hugs to everyone who suffers through what should be a joyous time of year!

I have all the Amy Grant Christmas CDs, also love John Tesh's Christmas CDs. TSO is awesome as well. But I also love the classics and the Time Life collection is the best for that. I think I have about 50 Christmas CDs ..

I love to make my mashed potatoes with sour cream and a package of Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing - the powdered kind. Yummy ... Here's my corn casserole recipe .. easy to make and really good! 1 small package of Saffron Yellow Rice Mix 1 can cream corn 1 can sweet corn, drained 1 stick of butter 1 can cream of celery soup dash of Lea & Perrins Worchestershire sauce 2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese Cook the rice according to directions on package. When rice is cooked, all the rest of the ingredients. You do not melt the butter, but add in sliced. Pour into buttered casserole dish and bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Stir before serving.

>>> Official Black Friday 2008 LAPTOP Discussion Thread <<<
AndreaInNC replied to Brad's topic in 2008
Okay .. so I am thinking about getting DD17 a HS Senior a laptop for Christmas because she'll be headed to college in the fall of 2009. OR should I wait and get her one in 2009 as a graduation present? I'm basically just looking for a laptop for her to do class papers on, check email, surf the net .. nothing major on it. Any suggestions on what to look for? I have NFI what RAM means or processor speed. I'm a complete idiot when it comes to computer specs. Thanks! -
Did stockings as a kid and I have always done them for mine. Mostly they are filled with candy and nuts.
-
or you could just go right to manufactor and get a replacement. They'll charge you for it, but they do sell parts - just need to call them with the model number and possibly the serial number.

Sadly, a 2nd job would put me in a different tax bracket and I think I'd lose money in the long run. I just shop smarter now.

I actually work with people who want to "cancel" Christmas!!
AndreaInNC replied to abentley's topic in 2008
Not long after I separated from my husband, money was so tight and then my fridge broke down. So one year my girls got a fridge for Christmas - they were 9 and 12 at the time. Maybe you could look at it from a different point of view and take it back to celebrating what the holiday is all about - giving and goodwill. You can volunteer to work in soup kitchen Christmas Day .. that sure will help your 13 year old appreciate what he has. -
