  1. Amazon had a buttload here awhile back for under a buck a cord. Shipping was only like two bucks. 3' and 6' ones. I almost bought some, but didn't as I already have like 4 cables (but only two HDMI inputs on my tv)........
  2. A good Realtor can provide you with the info you need. The local title companies can provide to them lists of foreclosures for your area (all foreclosures are not automatically listed with an agent or put on an MLS system). If you have a friend or associate that works for a title company, they could most likely provide you with that info directly. Please also read the fine print and requirements for the foreclosures in your area. Some (not many) have assumable notes. Others require CASH or CERTIFIED FUNDS ONLY (or proof thereof) at the date of the auction, if they're being auctioned. Some will SPECIFICALLY state that they will not accept a conventional loan (...they may know that the home has mold problems, structure problems, etc, and would fail an inspection...). When talking to a Realtor, make sure that he/she HAS EXPERIENCE with foreclosures. You could also talk to some title companies and ask for a short list of a few Realtors that fit your needs. Experience is important, as foreclosures can sometimes be a nightmare. I disagree with only pulling comps for the last month. If there's not much that's been selling, the comps won't be accurate (due to short sales, etc). As professional inspectors and good Realtors do, pull the last 3-6 months. That can also give you a good indication of market trends (have values stayed the same for the last six months, or does it show a marked, consistent decrease of say, 13% each month?). You will then adjust the comp price accordingly to current market conditions/trends. Oh - also keep in mind that if you're getting a conventional loan, the lender will require an appraisal. And depending on your area, that can result in a reduced appraisal price, or they may simply note it as a declining market area. Which means the lender may require 3% or more down out of your pocket to close (100% financing at a good rate/points/closing costs is almost impossible to find anymore). Talk to a reputable lender - not just a brick-and-mortar bank, but also include a broker, also, as they often have access to programs traditional banks don't have (e.g. = your local Chevy dealer can't sell you a new Ford). Any of the "pay for a list" services are a ripoff. Don't do it. And the government sites don't list all the foreclosures, only those secured by the Feds, or those being auctioned. The County should have a pretty good list. But a private note and trust deed that's being foreclosed on (individual seller or hard-money lender) can be harder to sniff out, brings us back to the title companies.
  3. There's a lot of things that it won't allow you to do.....YET. There's some good info here, with problems people have had, upcoming advancements, etc; Unofficial MagicJack Forum I was almost to the 'submit' section of the free try-out, but read about many of the problems people are having with cancelling the "free" trial and having their credit card charged. And there's also problems related to people getting a busy signal when the system is overloaded - and the voicemail not working properly then, either. Oh, and the caller ID feature not working for many. The MAIN reason I didn't buy it? The software/adware that gets installed on your computer, required during the installation process, that cannot be easily uninstalled if you no longer want the product. Apparently, that's how they're trying to recoup their money, is by the adware. Not a huge issue for me, I could toss together a junk computer just to run the software, but for 90% of everyone else, this could be a problem. If this stuff is reporting who and where you're calling (hasn't been confirmed one way or another yet), that's an important privacy issue for me.
  4. Sorry, day late and a dollar short. One of my vehicles is an '04 Trailblazer EXT V8, which I bought new. Same situation as you, started shopping around for extended warranty. GMPP is the ONLY way to go with a GM vehicle. I used it with my old '00 Jimmy/Blazer, and it paid for itself once over. GM dealerships have no qualms with the GMPP, you bring your vehicle in, they service/repair it, and they hand you the keys. None of the "pay first, and then submit to your warranty provider". And you're absolutely correct with going with the $0 deductible. People get nickeled and dimed to death with deductibles. I ended up buying my warranty online, as my local dealers couldn't touch the price, difference was $400 or $500. I think I bought it from the something-Black GM dealership that markets these extended warranties online. I won't touch aftermarket warranties. Too many horror stories.
  5. You're comparing apples to oranges. Food & beverage is different than hard goods. I have NO idea why you'd try to compare a restaurant that "gives" away water to a hard goods or other manufacturer. BUT, if we're talking about "giving away", GM does give away Onstar on select vehicles for a year. Other vehicle manufacturers give away satellite radio, etc. Wal-Mart has been known to give away extended warranties. Costco does the same thing with their own warranty that they offer on everything they sell. Caterpillar "gives away" free factory authorized trainings and seminars. So does Intel and Microsoft. And Microsoft gives away free trial versions of their software. Body shops give free estimates. Gyms give free trial memberships. Jewelry stores give away free ring cleanings, and sometimes sizings. And on and on. Just because you don't eat or drink it doesn't mean it doesn't have value. Oh, and the biggie - many broadcasters "give away" free programming in the way of RADIO and TV. But people will still complain about the amount of commercials. OH, AND THIS FORUM IS FREE FOR ALL OF US. Quit acting so magnanimous.
  6. One thing I noticed is that the link you provided prompted me to enter "your" email/login info. Apparently the deals are coded to your email addy, and you might want to reconsider emailing anything else out, just to be on the safe side. VistaPrint also provided a lot of default information on you, with the sample card/previous business card you ordered being displayed. While I'm a great guy (at least, that's what my therapist tells me!!!), I highly recommend not sending out any more of these. All it could take is for someone's computer to get infected, and next thing you know, BOOM! You're info is out for all to see. Or you start receiving late notices on credit cards that you never signed up for.
  7. Great. Nothing left at all for the rolling luggage stuff (well, I didn't check Diego, but DD's aren't into him). *sigh*, that's what I get for being away from a computer most of the day.
  8. Sorry, almost forgot. There was something on CL awhile back I was looking at. Called on it, it was gone. Saw it again a couple days later. Buyer never came through on the first deal, so he relisted it. BUT, it was already spoken for again. This happened a third time, and when it got to the fourth, it just wasn't worth my bother.
  9. I do the same. First contact = first in line, but that's only if they have $$$ in hand. Hold nothing. General rule of thumb is, money first. Remember, these are not your friends, these are the same people that would trip you on a rush for a BF item. Of course, there are exceptions. If someone wanted to give me a deposit via PayPal, then that's cool. There was something I wanted on CL's, about three hours away. I wasn't gonna get a chance to get over to get it for about a week. I specifically told the seller that I would give him a deposit via PayPal if he wanted, but he didn't want it (high dollar item). For the most part, most people just don't care about things if they have nothing invested. Sad, but true. And then there's the scammers. Talking about the real life scammers. I had a guy come and buy some hay from me (posted on CL). I had a funny feeling about him when he showed up, so I cut open a bale to show him the hay, see that it was good, etc. One month later he calls up, saying that a bale was really moldy, and that he couldn't feed it to his horses, etc., and started talking about getting his money back, or getting more hay to "replace" the 'bad' hay. I reminded him about how we opened a bale beforehand, and even pulled some samples out of about half of what he took, and it was fine. I then told him I would be HAPPY to refund his money, just bring back the hay he didn't use. Never heard from him again.
  10. I think it would do OK. Depends on how much your kids load it up with other stuff. It's a really, really basic system. 1gig ram, XP home, 80gig hard drive, and an entry-level processor (at least it's a dual core). My opinion is to maybe wait for another month or so, as there's some new processors coming out (extreme quads and such), and I'm expecting that for the same money you'll be able to pick up a system maybe about 30% better, for the same price. Estimation is by spring break. Have already seen the standard quad-core prices drop by about $100 since the beginning of the year. Again, my opinion.
  11. Almost $40 for shipping on an HDMI cable and a couple of Wii nunchucks. And that's the cheapest shipping option. I can't tell you how fast I removed them from my cart. Sorry, gotta say no to Consumer Depot. Like a previous poster said, they make up for their low prices by charging outlandish shipping costs. Actual cost for shipping couldn't have been more than $8.00 - total weight was less than a pound. Nothing wrong with buying "B" stock or properly checked returned goods, but I'm not gonna be ripped off on shipping. My opinion.
  12. Back in stock again.... Thought about it, debated it, decided against it for now. Several other e-tailers have sold this on and off for around the $25 price range for the last month or so. By the time I need it as a b-day gift or whatever, they'll probably be at around that same price, maybe even a better deal. I might end up kicking myself in the butt later on this, don't know.
  13. I stopped by this morning, not a lot left at mine, either. Misc. ornaments, not much for light strings or anything else I wanted. Price was just lowered from 25% off to 50% off, so the really good stuff had been gone through previously. Did buy a package of normal package bows, though, as the ones I had from last year have gotten 'smunched' and aren't really presentable... HOWEVER, they did have all their flower bulbs for $.50 a package. Any bulbs they had in stock. Tulips, daffodils, crocus, etc., etc. Whether they were originally $12 or $3, any bag for $.50. Couldn't say no, I love springtime flowers.
  14. LOL!!! This is like the 2nd or 3rd post I've seen that you've 'knocked' plasma's in favor of LCD's. Granted, just like anything else, there are some cruddy plasma's out there. And true, the first plasma's didn't have much of a lifespan. But today's panels should provide an approximate 20-year plus life. And as previously pointed out, have a wider viewing angle and no "blur" with fast-action scenes. Plus, with an actual glass panel, less chance for kids to be destructive (with crayons, markers, throwing sharper toys, etc). I've yet to see a plasma with a bad pixel, but I've seen plenty of LCD's with bad pixels. Nothing like that annoying green, permanent 'dot' in your screen. Color rendition? Well, how many digital photo/movie editors rely on LCD's? It's really a matter of what fits a person best. I prefer plasma over lcd, having had both. I think LCD is a close second, though. I had a 50" Visio plasma for about a year in my living room, traded up for a 50" Panasonic (Visio didn't have the built-in tuner). One of my Wal-Marts still has two of the 50" Visio's in stock (I think they're priced right now at around $1200).
  15. Costco isn't a bad place to find games, either. You can generally get them for as much as 20% off what retail stores are charging. Ex; you can get Super Mario Galaxy, Star Wars Complete Saga for like $41.98, and these retail for $49.99 - hardly ever see them on sale as they're popular.
  16. I have seen them here and there in my area, periodically in the brick and mortar stores. I'm not interested in reselling them, due to their size, so I haven't been picking up any. I wonder if it would be worth it to try and setup a "help out another member" thread. I'm sure most of us here have PayPal accounts. It's just a matter of if it's going to be worth shipping costs. Or would it be too big of a problem, and would there end up being situations where once you've arranged to get one from someone, suddenly they show up in your area on sale. Just talking out loud. Thoughts?
  17. This was originally unadvertised, was just something I happened to run across. Sale ended Saturday the 1st.
  18. Nothing at all at my Target on the jeans. Only one rack with the standard clearance clothes for toddlers. but I did score the last Hannah Montana Karaoke disc.
  19. Back from my jaunt into town... Well, while there's a ton of LPS stuff, there's hardly anything that's on my DD's list. Couldn't find any of the sets that had the Husky, couldn't find the Husky by itself. Target didn't have any of the LPS e-pets. Found some at ShopKo, but they had the bird, frog, hamster. And they were $14.99, seemed a little high from previous sales. Didn't check Wal-Mart, too tired. Target didn't have any of the $1.98 jeans I'd seen talk about. They did have lots of the Guitar Hero III's for all the platforms. ShopKo did have some Wii's, but the quantity they were expecting were 19, and they only got 6 - I guess the minimum for Sunday's ad (so they can't sell them tonight). Debating on standing in line in the morning... Hoping someone will have an online sale in the next week or so on the LPS e-pets. TY to everyone (so far!)
  20. You're probably right, she probably is calling the Husky a wolf (I've never looked or paid attention). Thanks, am gonna run into town and check out Target tonight - gonna see if I can find the $1.98 jeans as well. (...and also see if I can get a ShopKo employee to sell me a Wii before tomorrow's ad...why fight the BestBuy crowds tomorrow?) TY!
  21. I searched around before posting, please let me know if I missed a thread... DD 7.5 loves Littlest Pet Shop - looking for the Wolf, and also the little e-pets that they have. Looked at the Hasbro website, nothing spectacular there deal-wise. Haven't seen too much else around. Any deals? It's hard for me to say "no" to her...
