  1. Can ya post a copy of the letter when ya get it, Brad? Share the hilarity!
  2. Just wanna give a lil' BUMP to this topic. I'm still on the lookout for folks who can help out with entering info into the GD Comparison Charts this year. Anyone who's interested please PM me. After tabulating the large numbers of products from last year I guess I'm kinda freakin' out. One of those 'What have I gotten myself into now?!' moments. Any help is appreciated, folks.
  3. We're gettin' ready for Black Friday, everyone. Therefore I'd like to make a shout out to anyone who wants to help out with entering information into the charts this year. No experience in programming or anything is necessary. Just internet access is required and perhaps a desire for hunting down product information, like through a manufacturer's website for example. Basically, you'll be given a product category to manage. Each time a new ad is released usually the product's model number will be found with it. I just need people to hunt down the info and enter it in through text via my web site. Just to give everyone a heads up to what we're up against, last ear there were approximately: 90 HDTVs, 70 digital cameras (PAS, SLI, Kiddie), 60 GPS navigation systems, 40 laptops/netbooks, 30 video cameras/camcorders, and 20 blu-ray players. That's not including stereo systems, video game systems, and any others that may end up on the charts. So as ya can see, the more hands we get on this the merrier. If anyone is interested please send me a PM. Thanx in advance, and in the words of Margo Channing, 'Fasten your seatbelts, it gonna be a bumpy 2010 Black Friday!'
  4. Well, yes and no. How's that for an answer for ya? Dependin' on what type of netbook ya buy will make a difference whether ya can do more than that. The much less expensive mini netbooks (like the one ya posted) can surf basic pages without Flash content. Think of it like you're tryin' to view your favorite web site on a cell phone's web browser. However, the more expensive Windows XP/Windows 7 starter netbooks can take full advantage of everythin' the internet has to offer (can view Flash content like online games and surf Youtube videos), can install other programs (Windows CE ones can't do that, all their programs have to be online) and even have webcams. All depends specifically what'cha wanna do with it.
  5. That's the same mini netbook we were discussin' earlier ... no online gaming or flash content, no programs, yada, yada. Just simple web surfing of basic web sites and that's it. Ya get what'cha pay for. Still, with these droppin' down to less than $100 this year, I can't wait to see how much a mini netbook is gonna go for on BF.
  6. When ya hear from Wally World ... it's officially time for the Black Friday Countdown! Bring it!
  7. Normally I would help. But unfortunately with school and now full time work, and that I gotta finish gettin' the BF 2010 comparison charts ready for this year, my time is scarce. Actually, I gotta find some volunteers to help with enterin' in the detailed item data for that startin' next month. Don't suppose ya got any volunteer leftovers? I could possibly help out a bit if need be. A lil' time on weekday nights and more time on weekends.
  8. Congrtats to the winners. For me ... on to the next context.
  9. Now all we need is a GD contest to win an iPad Touch.
  10. Windows 7 Starter and Windows XP netbooks will be able to play online Flash stuff like Club Penguin and so forth. Typically, they have at least a gig of RAM and a decent (Intel Atom) processor. The main reasons why Flash games won't work with CE netbooks is because of the horrid, unsupported processor (ARM-based) and that Flash doesn't fully support the CE OS. It's a palm pilot/cellphone processor and OS, which is not designed for a laptop. Butt hey, it's dirt cheap.
  11. Maybe I'll put it on my new iPod Touch. That is, when I get one on BF.
  12. Well then, since you're the one who knows the stats, what IS the record for most people on the GD Black Friday site? And does anyone think that record will be broken this year?
  13. Accordin' to the stats on the front page of the forums, the most users ever online was 3,677 on 11-21-2007 (just before BF 2007) at 2:28 PM. To me that number seems a bit low, but that's what the stats say. Place your bets as to the top number of users we're gonna have online for BF this year. Think we're gonna shoot for the record?
  14. Looked back at last year's sales and it does look like the DS Lite core system was $98 at Walmart. There were bundles at $129 for the Lite and $149-169 for the DSi. We may see the DS Lite core system again (no accessories or games included) for the sub-$100 range. The bundles will probably be the same price as the core systems are now but with accessories /games or the ever infamous gift card.
  15. The prices of the DS/DSi's went down everywhere. Don't think it'll go down any more this year, but expect some big freebies with it for the same price on BF, like a giant pack of games/accessories or a gift card.
  16. Awesome deals, awesome anticipation, awesome friends, super awesome web sites!
  17. They probably have a fan base or somethin'. Why not let us know about the contest and how to vote for her?
  18. Gottadealers Anonymous. And this is your support group. We support your decision to buy a minivan to haul away bigger things on BF!
  19. Boy, some people just can't wait a few more months. Mostly doin' shoppin' for myself this year, and they'll be big ticket electronics items. So I'm ever so patiently waitin' for BF to come. But every time I pass by that $5 DVD bin at Walmart, it's so hard to resist divin' in.
  20. Hmm. Haven't noticed that before, and I use both IE and Forefox. Just tried it and seems to be OK typing and posting from IE on my end. Ya sure it's not your PC that's lagging when ya run IE? Sure someone could send an email our way to fix that problem.
  21. Dang. I didn't get no email. Well, on with the next contest. Congrats, tn20! Don't forget to wear it on BF.
  22. Of your DD's birthday is gonna be in October, I say but it now. Dunno if you'll be able to get a price adjustment on BF as more than a month may be past their time limit for that. But as jdrd90 said, keep the receipt anyways just in case it goes on sale.
  23. Yup. Apparently, that rumor is gonna become a reality the mornin' of BF. As if folks need another reason to camp out at the front of the line. Well, I guess that means more of a chance for me to get that cheap laptop.
  24. Likely to be very soon. That's up to Good ol' Brad. Now that I think about it, I wonder if we should have a separate dedicated thread for laptops and one for netbooks. Just to keep 'em separate from each other and hopefully cause as little confusion as possible between the two.
  25. I've seen mothers in line with children in one hand, a baby in the other, and pregnant to boot. And this is fairly chilly weather, not to mention in the middle of the night. Can't begin to imagine what could happen if she got trampled. No offense to all the BF shoppin' mothers out there, but it surprises me sometimes what some parents will do for a deal on BF.
