  1. You will probably not believe it, but the 2nd person on line didn't arrive until about 11am THURSDAY!!!
  2. Sprry about the loss of your aunt. I know the feeling. 2 years ago my dad's funeral was the Tuesday before Black Friday. This was my first year really getting back into Black Friday. It is hard to do something I love so much after such a painful loss, and I can understand how it would be difficult after the loss of someone you love.
  3. Got 3 Toshiba 49" TVs, 2 HP desktops, 4 HP laptops, Nest thermostat, 2 Escort radar detectors, firestick and chromecast, 4 Samsung Galaxy s7 Edges... (Best Buy upped their gift cards from $250 to $400 per phone), micro sd cards, mice, wireless keyboards, 27" computer monitor, washer, dryer, microwave, 3 wet/dry vacs, ladders, 8tb hard drive, clothes, electric blankets, shark vacuum, misc. kitchen appliances. Even at 5pm Friday many of the stores STILL had doorbusters available. I have NEVER seen so few people out shopping. Is it really Black Friday if the crowds stay home??? At Best Buy, the most popular item everyone was on line for was the 49 inch Toshiba smart TV 4K with chromecast.for $`199. They had about 150 tickets for them, and even though that was the main item, they went through the entire line and still had about 50 or more tickets unclaimed. They then started at the front and offered additional tickets to anyone that wanted them, 1 more per customer from the front back...When they still had a few after making an unprecedented second round to give out the tickets, they just let the customers grab the rest when they got in. I then went to Walmart, and they had so many doorbusters left they were moving them closer together and putting them near the front of the store near the entrance. By the time I got there it was about 9pm and I got every doorbuster I wanted, mind you, I got all the electronics I needed at Best Buy, but they did still have some of the laptops, tvs, and tons of other doorbuster items. Then went to eat and got to Sears at about 11:45pm. Got the washer and dryer and then they closed so I didn't get any more there and went home. Went back to Sears at about 11am and got all the other doorbusters I wanted. My wife went to JC Penny and Target, got all her items there. I went to Lowes and Home Depot... Again, got ALL my doorbusters, at about 1pm or 2pm. Spent a little more than I planned to, mainly because ALL the items I wanted were still available, something that has NEVER happened in the 23 years I have been doing Black Friday shopping. In all the years past, I would only get about 50% or 60% of the items I wanted at most, with the exception of Best Buy where I am always first and average about 95% of my items. I even broke the cardinal rule of not using a shopping cart on Black Friday to get through the crowds quicker... there were no crowds to get through! Not only were many of the other shoppers shocked at how empty the stores were, but even the workers were. In fact, at Best Buy, when they opened, they had about 1 employee per 3 customers! No lines any where at checkout either... Another first!
  4. Good to know, I am getting the s7 edge today at Best Buy. I know Target added in an oculus package as well but I know nothing about it so the free VR glasses was what sold me on getting it today. I could have gotten the gift card a few days ago still but the VR glasses are through samsung with a valid receipt from 24 probably til about 26th. Truth is its like trading on your car at a dealership. You get about half what you could for it on Ebay. I have the s5 and the trade in is about $50. On Ebay they have the s5 for parts only with no chargers for about $70.
  5. I wonder how many others here are first at their local Best Buy. This is my first Black Friday camp out after a few rough years... but I retook my old position I. The front of the line. Currently 29 degrees here and still waiting g for the number 2 person to arrive, lol. That's the one beauty if being up north, no one lines up weeks in advance here because of the wearher, lol... except fools like me, but this fool is taking their doorbusters so later tonight they all wish they were first, lol
  6. Sounds like me. One of the years the media was interviewing me and asked what was so important that I was camping out. I told them the truth... it's a tradition and I wasn't really sure which items I was going to get yet, but by the time the store opens I would have a better idea, lol.
  7. I would think late December is the best time. I have been watching the prices myself and many dealers are offering $3000 off of most 2016 models. Unless you absolutely need a 2017, especially if they are doing a major upgrade to the looks or discontinuing the model the prices are going to continue to drop on the 2016s. I'm watching, but not ready to pull the trigger on a deal just yet.
  8. In New York it's in the 40s and will be straight through till after Black Friday. I know when the first people show up, since usually it is me, and I know the people that show up next are on a schedule and can't arrive earlier... so ok, I know if I get there 30 minutes before the time I know they can get there at earliest, I'm good, lol. After that it is usually pretty quiet right up until Thursday morning at about 7am. Since the weather here is a factor, many don't arrive until about 10am - 12 noon... and then the rush begins. Having been doing Black Friday now for about 22 years, and been here since 2004 I have learned the it works here but every area is different. Luckily this area most don't like to fight the cold and often don't arrive until Thursday morning. Just checked all my gear, tested my propane heater, and ready to just load the car. I have already gotten there in the past and waited over 48 hours for the second group to arrive so no point leaving until I feel others may try to beat me, lol
  9. Seems everyone can find them different days depending on their location. Mine come out on Thursday... I have always had to leave the line for about 30 minutes to get it, and often buy a few extras for my family and others on line to check out. I finalize most of my shopping by the weekend, so the only real way for me is GottaDeal.com :-)
  10. I'd stay away from the Samsung. Not exactly sure what the problem is, but I have seen lots of them on Facebook free sites giving them away, they look brand new but they are broken.
  11. Ok, so just the items marked 8am doorbusters are the 8am doorbusters? If that's the case I should be set since none of the items I want are next to the 8am doorbusters banner...
  12. The original ad didn't specify which was which that I could see. The newer ad on Best Buy gives me a slightly better idea, but looks like only 2 doorbusters are for 8am Friday. I am hoping all goes as planned, just confirmed I have the time off next week that will get me on like first unless someone new tries tries to be first this year, lol
  13. Still waiting for them to post the times of each doorbuster. That will determine if I only spend a few hundred dollars or I get all the items I want which comes to over $3000. If they are the 8am sale I will just get those items someplace else or not get them at all. I can't go to Best Buy twice.. sorry. At this time I intend to reclaim my spot as first in line after a few rough years. 3 years ago I had just returned from Florida. Jaymacfl was a sweetheart and offered to help me out that year since she was first on line at the local Best Buy. I will NEVER forget how much that meant to me that although we had never met except for on these boards she was so willing to try to help me out... Thanks again Jaymacfl, your kindness will forever be remembered!
  14. Actually, I called Verizon. The way it works is you pay the $27 for 2 - 3 months rather than the $10. Then on the 2nd or 3rd bill they will credit you back the $17 and then it goes to $10 a month for the remaining 21 or 22 months. That deal is good for either new OR upgrades. The Samsung s7 edge is ONLY FOR NEW CUSTOMERS or you have to change your number to get that deal. If you check out Best Buy, Target, or Walmart, you can get the S7 EDGE, which will cost you $20 a month more on the 2 year plan, but the phone is "FREE", but you also get a $250 gift card. Best Buy and Target you also get the VR goggles (BY MAIL) and an Oculus content pack (also by mail) Walmart you just get the gift card. In the end you get the $250 gift card and the $99 goggles (supposedly the oculus pack is worth $49 but I can't say for sure) but it costs you $480 over 2 years. Count in what you get and not counting the oculus, you get $250 + $100 pair of VR goggles, so the phone ends up being only about $90. That is your best deal, and the one I am going with. The S7 only has a 300 Mah battery, the S7 Edge has 3600 Mah battery, thats the main reason for it. Also, Best Buy has Otterbox cases on sale for $25, usually they are about $50.
  15. Verizon made them take it down. Some companies like Home Depot and now Verizon think people wait until the last minute to plan their shopping lists. If I had to wait for them to be allowed to officially post it, I would never even bother going into those stores. I am have already planned out most of my stops and I'm finalizing it this weekend. Best Buy is likely my first stop, which actually has a better deal than Verizon any way. I'm going to get the Samsung s7 Edge for free (well, 2 year contract which raises the cost of the service by $20 a month) and use that hopefully the same day. I have over $3000 shopping planned for Best Buy, unless they screw around and the items I want are the Friday am doorbusters. By that time I will have already bought the items elsewhere as well.
  16. I have actually called Verizon about how the deals work. The $10 a month phones you will pay the normal price for 2 or 3 months and then get credited for that amount and pay $10 a mo th after. Those can be done as upgrades or new service. The ones on page 2 are new service ONLY such as the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. I am likely getting the S7 edge free through Best Buy, however that is a 2 year contract deal which brings up the price of the service by $20 a month. However, with the $2950 Best Buy gift card, $480 - $250 comes to only $230 rather than the $240 ($10 month) for a better phone, plus free VR glasses by mail.
  17. I'm looking at them myself as well. I like the front load (wife's request) Kenmore on the front page. Not a bad deal plus $50 bonus, I believe on each of them, not 100% sure... That and the regular pouts should almost pay for the 2.2 cf microwave she wants. Sears may be closing some stores, but by no means is going out of business as someone e suggested.
  18. I work nights or I would love to be there for the livestream. This weekend I have an engagement party so Saturday will be out as well. Hopefully they have one Sunday I can join.
  19. Would your daughter be ok on Black Friday? I have a disabled daughter as well, so I understand your concerns, and the last thing I want to do is offend you. I was just wondering if with PTSD and seizures if confined spaces that are crowded are not going to cause her problems. You obviously know her better, if SHE is ok with it, then I would say by all means take her and her service dog. No one will stop you as long as you have the credentials. Personally I would be willing to help her get her items and give her space if I were in the store with her, but many people are inconsiderate on Black Friday and common sense and respect goes out the window for many.
  20. Thanks. Last year we had a family emergency and I was at a funeral when I would normally have been on line already. Still not sure which items are sale at what time. The ad has some good deals, but others have the same item for close to that price or a similar item. If Best Buy decides to go with the ad the way it is they are going to have lots of upset customers, and I for one may not even bother since I don't want to have to be looking for items that won't be on sale until hours later. I prefer to get the items at the store because I enjoy camping out, lol. I may just go someplace where their ad is more clear. Many of the items on sale are also available in Walmart or Target, both of which are right there as well.
  21. I think Best Buy is making a huge mistake not having the door busters until 8am Friday... They don't explain how thus is going to work and people will be there for door busters at 5pm and nit be able to get them, or not come until 8am at which time they may be gone. Very confusing even to a regular Best Buy customer what the plan is for their doorbusters. I may just go some lace else and forget Best Buy if their sale starts at 8am. Or do they have some doorbusters at 8am and others at 5pm... or do they give out tickets at 5pm and you return at 8am... No explanation in their ad and that's going to cost them big time.
  22. Some of the Samsung have a button that makes it easier for new users. My mom has stayed away from smartphones because they are too complicated, now that she knows of this feature she is getting the Samsung Galaxy s7 or s7 edge.
  23. Not cool, lol. Leave my tents alone!
  24. Doors open at 5pm Thursday but doorbusters start at 8am?? Am I missing something? Do they give out tickets and then you come back? Do I have to wait there for 15hrs? I am usually first on line, but when do I get my tickets and when can I get the items? If I get my tickets and get a similar deal someplace else I am not going to be buying it at best buy when I have walmart, target, kohls, sears, etc all right in the mall.
