  1. That's how my mom and I got to do Black Friday ourselves, funny story. It was a long time ago, back when I was still in college. My co-worker/friend at the time told me about the wonderful deals I could get after Thanksgiving at 5am. I was DIRE need for a digital camera because my last camera died on me. So I asked if I could go with her and her family, she said yes and told me to be ready at 4am. I was so excited, so early Black Friday morning, I was ready at 4am. Only she didn't show. I called and called but no answer. I was heartbroken, my mom who was up because she want to see me off, saw how down I was and not wanting to let her baby boy down, she went with me. We had a blast, I got my camera and a few other things. I found my ex-friend (actually she wasn't my ex-friend because of this, something to do with ordering me to be Santa Claus for the college's Christmas parade float at the last minute but I digress) an hour later at the same store. She didn't even had the decency to ring my doorbell. Anyway, it's been me and my mom ever since. Maybe I will let my mom retire and let my future girlfriend/wife take up the mantle. Maybe not, lol.
  2. At my local store, the games are in the deli, so I will hover around there first and then head over there for the heavy stuff. My mom will be where the bikes are, and latch on to a bike until I get there. I heard that my store would be swapping around the locations of things during the actual sale, I'd like to see them try that. Looking in the faces of angry customers with maps, asking them where stuff is if it aint where it is supposed to be, lol. That'll hold them as my mom would say.
  3. Traditionally, it just mom and me shopping but this year, we got some extra people. I love shopping with my mom because she understands my body language and executes accordingly. When you are with others, you are usually working with newbies who make excuses and can't really follow through. Yet, the people we are with are experts, so I don't have expect problems. But even if they didn't show, I'm just happy being with my mom as always. Then afterwards, we usually go grab some breakfast, talk about the day, then get some rest. It always fun to get the lists together, talking to friends and family who come out, talk about ads with strangers as they stand glass-eyed at the bargains that awaits, and the overall madness that ensues. That's tradition to me. The hours change but the day is still the same, awesome.
  4. I will be there at 9pm, maybe a bit earlier, just in case they decide to kick things off a bit early. I don't need any electronics, thank goodness. Just want some 10pm stuff and book it back to the house for a nap, get up around 6 am for Staples and Big Lots. Might try to grab a few deals from Best Buy online (no store in my town, sadness) and Amazon plus Newegg.
  5. DVD and Games definitely. If you are suave, you can get your whole holiday shopping done in one day. I know I have done it once or twice, plus frees you up for those surprise giftees (visiting relative, co-worker, new gf/bf). I usually get some homewares stuff, like towels and blankets. If you need a tv. this is a perfect time to buy which cheaper and expensive brands at very reasonable prices.
  6. Yeah, go for it. Thing about the Sansui BF model is that it doesn't have HDMI ports, which is kinda lame but I needed a new tv for the bedroom anyway, and it does it's job. You don't have to wait if you can get a good deal early.
  7. I can't remember if they ever did a Black Friday sale. If so, what do you think they will have. Maybe a 20% discount? Re: Big Lots
  8. Oh yeah, most def. That's what I would like to do. See the aftermath and hit up the later sales. Plus, what tehlilone say rings true, you can often find stuff tucked away somewhere, like dvds and games. Plus there are always leftovers, could be some then. Retailers are probably ordering more than ever and really hedging their bets. For the simple love of the day, just hang out, you can sleep it off the rest or the next day.
  9. I was planning to grab a few doorbusters online from Walmart but when my mom saw a bike that she wanted, I figured it wouldn't be Black Friday (or in the case BF eve, lol) but to get into the fray, as they say. This year we are going to have some help tho. I'm trying to amass a tight elite shopping squad to maximize our output. My thinking is being that it is earlier more people off the street will be there and if we band together, we can better our chances of getting good stuff for everyone. So as far as my times go, Walmart at 9pm to assess for 10pm, skip the electronics, be home around 10:40pm, bed, then back up at 5am for the later sales, hang out, eat some brekky and back home, with stories to tell.
  10. I remember last year, that many of the games and dvds that were in store were online on Walmart.com. I don't think that a store that is pretty greedy to start at 10pm and have doorbusters at midnight, wouldn't pass up some online money. Just going to have to wait and see.
  11. I am getting pretty excited. I am hoping for Uncharted 3 for like 30 bucks or something awesome like that. I could always use some more DVDs but now I will need more Blu Rays. Maybe a TV
  12. I would like to know as well, because even tho I am not pregnant and a man, I will not be there for 10pm or Midnight. I will be there at my usual time at 4:30am.
  13. Well, it seems that my greatest fear is that WM will be, in a attempt to be ahead of the curve, will be opening at 10pm Thursday night (if the rumor is true). Now I wish for midnight, unless they have some stellar deals, I will be making an attempt for them online if I am lucky, then go in later and mop up. Shame this happened tho, maybe they will wise up and go back to the old ways.
  14. I miss the good ole days when sales started at 5am and ended at 11am. not start at 10pm Thanksgiving night, that's when I go to bed to get up around 4 to be ready at 5am. Looks like I might have to get some WM deals online at 10pm, then swagger over there at 5am to see what's left. Wander over to a few places, grab breakfast, check Amazon and Newegg for deals, then sleep. By the way, anyone going to try WM online at 10?
  15. Oh Walmart, every year you are soooo hurt someone releases your ads early but you always reap the rewards. You should be sending letters of thanks, not litigation to Brad and sites like this.
  16. Usually, I don't recommend this unless you want to but, I sleep in my clothes, so when I get up, I am fully dressed. I usually like to plan a few days ahead and make a list of what I want and need. Always shop in a group, never do BF alone. If you are in a group, corroborate who is going to go where. For instance, in a group of 6, split into two person teams with each team, taking a store, have a meeting spot, preferably someone home, split the booty and make payments accordingly. If retailers do an early bid on items, order quick to move items (dvds, games, home items) online, then get some rest for the big dance later on. If you work it right, BF can be a great and fun experience. Plus the battle stories are always great.
  17. Good ole Waycross Ga. but would like to go Valdosta if I had a elite shopping squad.
  18. I don't like it when parents bring the babies to black friday. I be afraid that someone will mistake them for a Baby Alive doll, lol. Seriously, let the kids stay home and find a babysitting or a friend to wake them. People don't care about your children, they care about the deals.
  19. Yeah ya'll reminded about the whole hoarding thing. I managed to find the few games I wanted by wondering down aisles finding them scattered around. I found Red Dead Redemption (love that game) in the Paint department, lol. My mom talked to a friend who works at WM, told us you it might be possible to get some items online. If they do this crap again this year, I will just wait until Midnight, order what I want, go to bed, wake at 4, go down there for the big ticket items at 5 or just browse until the other stores open.
  20. I have been doing the black friday thing for about 7 years now. I always hit Walmart first because Walmart usually has good deals and is open before everyone else at 5am. Also being that I live in a relatively small town (only one Walmart) I usually get a fair share of stuff. Get up around 4am, drive down to Walmart, get in line for my item or just hunting some small deals. Last year, they changed it to Shop While You Wait, here's their reasoning; Allowing customers the ability to get some items and then go and wait for the big ticket items that come along at 5am. Sound thinking but here's the problem; Usually stores don't get a lot of shipments, so everyone has piled up everything and then those who come closets to 5, gets hardly anything, instead everyone gets a fair chance. It's basically first come first served, which is ok if you have alot of shipment. Thank God, I managed to get a few things plus my big tickets. I was so thankful, that I just went straight home and didn't bother with the other stores. Do you like this or do you wish that it would just go away like a bad dream
  21. Of the two bundles, the PS3 is my choice. I hadn't heard anyone talking about if they were going to fight for it. I know I will give it a chance but I ain't going at midnight. I will try for 3:30 - 4 am. Hopefully everyone will go for the Xbox one and leave a PS3 for me. Then I can scavenge for games.
  22. I'm always go with my mom, but I would like to get my friend, Tabitha to come with me this year. Her beauty would distract and her height would be perfect in grabbing stuff off high shevles.
  23. My Zune full of my favorite podcasts My cell phone to coordinate with my other shopper friends Of a wad of cash and credit. Daddy need some games for his Wii and DS, lol. Oh and a PS3 for next year.
  24. I enjoyed it mainly for the rush and getting out of the house and enjoying myself. My mother enjoy it more because she has been a little down. We got a few items, mostly what we wanted. Shop in 2 cities and got even more stuff and didnt break 100 bucks. I look forward to next year.
