  1. Here is some video from me and my friends in line at Best Buy last year. Don't mind our goofiness in the vid... :D

  2. Well... then you have Cyber Monday.... which started 2 years ago... which was supposed to be a "black friday-like" day for internet stores... It started as a rumor/hoax... but then last year... became a little more legit... with CompUSA having some sales on their website... and I think a few other stores. Who knows... maybe Cyber Monday might get some serious action this year.
  3. I have a propane heater that I got on clearance for $10. I also got a propane camping stove on clearance for $5. I may take both. the heater to keep warm... the stove to make .... Turkey Paninis? LOL.
  4. I'm typing this post on my ze2308wm laptop that I sat overnight for in wal-mart back on 05.. since it still works great, I won't need to sit in line for another one this year. :)

Oh God... the battery on that thing crapped out on me in just under a year... ironically... right before BF'06, where I bought Best Buy's laptop to replace it.

  5. for defensive puposes???

I live in SC and on my 2nd outing at BF in 05 at Walmart, after i got my Laptop(the $399 model) and almost went to Hunting supplies for a Machete to keep people away

last year i just carried a couple of Pocket knives if trouble broke out

This year I might carry a small baton(the extending , spring loaded kind) to have on hand or maybe 2-3 pocket knives in case of trouble

oh btw if anyone is in Upstate SC and sees a 6-2 , 340 lb man in line w/ a black trench coat boots and probably a Punisher shirt, That will be me. I hope to be in line somewhere, but waiting for sales to decide where

Nah... just to pass the time. Trust me... I am kind of a big buy. Most would be too intimidated to try anything against me. But... I always carry a folding knife in my pocket anyway.

  6. I have 2 experiences from last year...

#1. When it got to be about 1 hour before opening, Best Buy came out and started handing out tickets. Some guy got out of his car and started hanging out on the side of the line, toward the front. Me and a couple of other people went straight to the cops that were already there and pointed him out and made him go to the back of the line. Then later in the store, when I was waiting in line to pick up my laptop... I noticed that the same guy was hanging out near the laptop line... and he was staring and my ticket... and other people's laptop ticket. I think he was thinking about snatching them and getting lost in the crowd. So I told all of the people around me to put them in their pockets. Then... right before I get to the clerk to get my laptop, the guy jumps right into the line and tells the clerk that they "skipped him" when they were handing out tickets. I stood behind the guy , pointing and silently mouthing to the clerk, "He's lying. He tried to cut the line." The clerk told him there was nothing he could do.

#2. Story... again in the laptop line... I was a little ways back the store was starting to get packed with the people who showed up right before opening... this big tall guy walks up and it yelling to the clerk (who is busy helping another customer), "Hey man, I wanna buy 2 of those laptops." I looked over at him and said, "It's a limit of 1 per person." He said, "OK, my wife is buying one too." Then I replied, "Do you both have tickets?" To which he said, "What tickets?" I said... "Uh... the tickets that they handed out to the people who waited in front of the store ALL NIGHT LONG." He gave me this shocked look and said, "Do you have a ticket then?" I said, "Yes... just one. For the laptop that I am buying." Hey just looked frustrated and walked away. LOL.

  7. oh ok, cool. so did your friends that went at 3pm get all they wanted? doorbuster-wise, i mean?

i guess i better try and convince the wife to plan to have T-giving dinner at 2pm or something...

where in OH/MI? I grew up in the Plymouth/Canton area in Metro Detroit.

We always have T-Giving @ my aunt's house... at about noon... so this year I plan to skip it and just have my brother bring me a plate.

  8. That's the store I hit! Since you were there soo early you didn't geta chance to see what happened to the line. You probably passed me up somewhere in the store, though. Maybe I even bumped into your cart. :tongue1: So what time you goin' this year?

I think I remmeber you, EliteABomb. Spoke with 'ya on line a bit before BF last year. Hope to yap with 'ya a lil' more this year. ;)

This year I plan to get there at about noon, bring a tent and mini propane grill. (That is if Walmart doesn't woo me in with a good ad.)

  9. Just to give you an idea ...

The only line I really took part in last year was the local Best Buy. Fortunately for me I had no interest in doorbusters, so I came in about an hour before opening. I went to the front of the line just to take a lookie and talked to a couple people who were first to go in. One guy said he was there at 2 in the afternoon and set up a tent to camp out for about 15hours. :eyepoppin About an hour to opening I took my place in line ... starting at the front door I followed the line ... going completely around the store ... all the way to the back parking lot ... completely AROUND the parking lot ... zig zagging around some markers they had positioned up, and finally after quite some walking I found my place. I'd guess at about a thousand people in line in front of me easy, give or take. There were even people coming in line behind me after I was there. It was a pretty impressive sight to see word getting out and all these people taking part in BF. The adventure inside the BB store was equally exciting as well, but I'll save that story for another thread. :D

So, I hope that puts it into perspective. :cheesy: The time you should get in line basically all depends on where you plan on going and what you plan on getting. If you're headed to any of the major electronics chains (Best Buy, CompUSA, Circuit City, Fry's Electronics, or even Wal-Mart) for one of their limited wuantity doorbusters (cheap desktop, laptop, TV, camera) plan on being there VERY early thanksgiving day. Perhaps some drive-by's on a regular basis if you can, and once you start to see people lining up you better hop in.

On a side note, I really think word about BF is getting around more and more as the years go by. I've taken part in BF for just the last four years or so, and every year there seems to me more people. I really think a big part of that is due to GottaDeal and it's community, not to mention more and more publicity that the folks at GottaDeal ('sup, Brad! Yap wit'cha soon, Ross!) get each year, as we get closer to that infamous day. ;)

And it's rather warm here in Phoenix. Thought you folks expecting snow on thanksgiving might wanna know. :tongue1:

Hey I am in Phoenix! I was at the Best Buy at I-17 & Thunderbird last year. I got into the line at about 4pm and was number 40-ish in line. Got every door buster I wanted though.

  10. I'm at home and I don't have my exact numbers on me, but all are $100 for one year, and the 3 yr plan is based on purchase price. I think the 3 yr plan is around $250. I realize that's a lot for what you paid for the laptop itself, but you also need to consider what the regular price of the machine is and the hassles you'll save by having Geek Squad fix any problems (and no overseas tech support calls :D ).

Also, you are correct - you do have 14 days to buy the plan after purchase (but 14 days means 14 days, not 15).

Does the plan cover laptop batteries? I got the HP lappy at Walmart last year, and a month ago, the battery quit taking a charge.... I hope the same doesn't happen so soon with this one...

  11. What the hell do they expect? They had a weak BF ad and they got rid of one of their biggest draws... LAYAWAY! I used to do 99% of my holiday shopping at Walmart, but this year I have shopped around for better deals because of their lack of layaway.
  12. Hmm... maybe I better check my software disks again. Maybe I'm thinking about the laptop. I don't know.. I remember calling HP for one of them. LOL.

My mistake... my HP from last year is the laptop....LOL.

Last year i got the laptop from Wally... but last month the battery quit charging. I was gonna just buy another battery, but when I saw how good the HP Laptop at BB was this year, I couldn't pass it up.
