  1. Go to Amazon's homepage, then on the right hand side, look for the "cart" button. The second promotion box below the cart button says "Top Holiday Deals"- click on that and it will take you to the Lightning Deals. :)
  2. Yeah, my favorite was seeing a game that was either $9 or $15 on BF and had a big "starburst" sticker on it with the price. Well, now its still on the shelf, but someone scribbled out the price with a black marker, left the starburst sticker on, and put a new tag below it saying "$20.00." Now that's classy. :)
  3. I could have SWORN that the new Disney Prep and Landing special was going to be on last night on ABC @ 8pm, then when I looked at my DVR at about 10, it wasn't there and I was so mad! It looks like it was bumped for the speech... darn presidential speeches taking away my much anticipated new Christmas special.... GRRR! The good news, it will be aired next Tuesday at 8pm. Good thing, too, or I'd be on the phone with the White House right now and have a little talk with them about not airing speeches during Christmas specials. Johnny- ROFL; that is too funny! I would so pay to see your proposed photoshopped picture!
  4. Ooh, thanks, Angelic! We don't need any more games, but its such a good price!
  5. Wow... around here, my spending seems a bit excessive to most people, but compared to most of you here, I'm a cheapskate! I think we are at about $850 for DH, myself, 4 kids, 1 niece, MIL, mom, dad, step-mom, step-dad, sister, BIL, and 2 sets of grandparents, and I am pretty much done. I do need to pick up a few more little things, but we don't exchange expensive gifts with adults (well, my dad and step-mom give us expensive things, but understand that we can't afford to) and most of the gifts for the kids were bought on clearance or great sales, so I would say out of the $500 we spent on our kids and niece, it is at least $1500 retail... probably more (I got TONS of stuff at Target's 75% off sale and a bunch of stuff from WM that was almost 90% off!) My mom's side of the family we do a $5 per person limit gag gift exchange, my dad's side of the family asked for picture gifts, so I bought stuff on sale at Shutterfly for them. MIL asked for DH to install a lighting unit for her house. Didn't cost much money... like $40, it will mostly be time installing it. DH spent $100 on me and I spent $150 on him. We had set a $100 limit on each of us, but I couldn't help it... I found a few good deals on things he would really like and couldn't pass it up. DH only worked 7 days in November and will only work 7 days in December, so things are kind of tight for us. The upside to this is that DH is able to spend a lot of time with the family this holiday season! Plus, its the first Christmas where we are paying cash for everything! I haven't used a credit card once! Oh, wait! I lied. I used my Discover card 1 time to get the $10 off $50 discount on Amazon, but I already paid it back!
  6. Hmm... good points! I feel the guilt diminishing! And this actually gives me an excuse to be on GD! "See, hubby, I'm not messing around on GD- I'm promoting Amazon there in exchange for good deals and super fast, free shipping!" I like it! That's what I was thinking, too! I have several items, coming from the same location, all shipped the same day, arriving the same day, but they are all in different packages! It probably would save them quite a bit, but it would also slow them down a lot, too. I've only had Prime for a few weeks, but I'm already wondering how I lived without it! My step-dad is paid up until next October. Hopefully he renews it next year or I might have to do something completely insane.... like pay for it myself!
  7. OMGosh! I almost had my Diet Dr. Pepper shoot out of my nose when I read that! Too funny!!! The mental picture is priceless! Some grown man being tickled with those new Elmo tickle hands until he agrees to a price adjustment....
  8. I'm trying not to worry about it for a few more days! If we get through the rest of the week and things don't start happening, then I'll be disapointed. If I remember correctly, either here or on another forum I used to go to, there were a lot of people last year that started posting that the sale wasn't going to happen because it had already started at that point in 07. Lets just keep our fingers crossed that the economy didn't ruin our annual toy sale and take the extra couple of days to put all the items we're interested in into our saved items!
  9. Thanks for the info! Unfortunately, I live in the middle of nowhere and only have a (non-Super) Walmart (checked today- priced $29.XX) and a crusty old Kmart. The nearest Target and TRU are over an hour away, so my WM will not price match them. This is why I love Amazon. :) ETA: The darn thing went back up to $27.99! Next time it drops below $21, I'm just going to buy it. Its not worth saving a few bucks to spend my day stalking a video game.
  10. No problem! I know a lot of people realize that the deals are for a limited period of time, but I wasn't sure if it was "common knowledge" about many deals not being for a set time, but for a set number of items sold. Which is why some hot items have a price decrease for a very short period of time, but other not so hot items can have the price drop for days before going back up. (A good example of this was the Mega Bloks Castle that dropped to $19.99 and took a few days to go back up.) I also read a long time back that Amazon's price jumps and decreases are, at least sometimes, due to lots of people having the item in their cart or saved for later. Amazon will "see" that a lot of people are considering the item, so they'll drop it a couple of dollars to try to get people to buy it. If enough people don't buy it at the decreased price, they jack it up sky high for awhile, then put it back down (often not to the lowest price again) to get people panicking that it is going back up in price. A good example of this is the Scribblenaut DS game. It was around $20 for awhile, then it went to $18.XX a day or 2 ago, then today it went up to $27.XX, and within a couple of hours it went back down to $20.XX. I was watching it at $18.xx, hoping it would go lower, then it jumped up, and now I'm considering paying the $20.xx for it so it doesn't go back to $27.xx, even though I hadn't jumped on it at $18 cause I was hoping it would go lower. So apparently this strategy works! :)
  11. No, they won't change them! Amazon's deals are set up so that once a certain number have sold at a certain price, the price will go up. If they had 500 to sell at $1.99, they might have 500 more to sell at $2.99. At least this is what I was told. But I know they will not change your price after you've checked out! I was worried last year when I ordered Kota the Triceratops for $99 and a couple of minutes later it jumped to $250. I called and Amazon told me what I typed above.
  12. (Mods: Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong forum!) I wanted 6 of the Bakugans that are on sale for $1.99 today. The limit was 3, but I wanted an even number, so I ordered 2. Then it kept bothering me that it was such a great deal and I could buy 1 more. So I went back and ordered 1. Then I decided to check my online bank account to see how my checking account is doing.... it seriously looks something like this... Amazon $1.99 Amazon $3.98 Amazon $2.00 Amazon $2.00 Amazon $4.00 Amazon $3.50 Amazon $5.00 and on and on like that for about 50 lines. I have Prime... well, technically, my step dad has Prime and I am on his account. 2 day shipping is expensive, and even though I'm sure Amazon gets one heck of a deal, they still can't be making any money when I spend $1.99 on 1 Bakugan, they have to cover the cost of the product, pay fees to process my debit card, and ship the darn thing 2 day air. I feel kind of guilty. Not guilty enough to stop, mind you, but still kind of guilty. I think I might single handedly run Amazon into the ground.
  13. Maybe check out ebay. I was looking for HP CDs awhile back and came across some great deals on the book sets, brand new. I can't remember exactly what they were going for at that time, but it was cheap enough that I considered buying a set... even though we already have books 1-7 in paperback AND hardcover. Yeah, I'm a nerd.

  15. Great; thanks! Santa is in need of some little things to go in my boys' stockings!
  16. Over the weekend I got about 75% of my wrapping done! I'm feeling kind of burnt out on wrapping, so I'm taking a break for a few days until I'm back in the mood. That way it feels festive and not like a chore. My kids' gifts are wrapped and under the tree, so I don't have to worry anymore about them finding them... I'm just worried about DFS2 unwrapping all the presents, so I'm keeping a close eye on him. I may have to put up a gate around the tree... My kids are enjoying seeing all the gifts under the tree, but it also seemed to trigger a countdown for them... especially DS4. Every time he sees the presents he asks, "Is Christmas today?"
  17. I put anything I'm interested in into my cart and watch for price decreases. If you wait until everything is posted here, they might sell out or push the price back up. I didn't know about the sale the year before last, when it was supposed to be so great, but I heard that Amazon and Target were feuding over something in 07, so Amazon was basically trying to tank Target's online toy sales by offering everything Target had on sale for dirt cheap. They got everything straightened out, supposedly, before last year, so there wasn't a huge toy sale in 08. My guess is that 09 is going to be more like 08 than 07. But, I didn't have any problems with last year's sale. I got a lot of things that were on wish lists for VERY cheap! My hopes for this year are that Amazon and Walmart go head to head online. They are already doing it with movies, hopefully that will go into toys. They did last year with Cherry Blossom Market stuff and I got it for CHEAP.
  18. Oh really? Well I guess the girl I talked to didn't know what she was talking about! Oh well, still a decent deal. And I'm still hoping they reduce them more at my WM. There are a bunch left (at least 25 are still stacked up and I've seen a few here and there all over the store) and there doesn't seem to be any interest in them.
  19. Still too early! :) Last year, my orders didn't start until something like December 4th and I stopped ordering around the 14th, I wanna say. If you go to amazon, click on my account, then scroll down, there is an option to see all the orders you've placed over the past 3 or 4 years. Then you can see when you made all your previous purchases. I don't think it lists the price, just the item and the date. It should be coming soon, though! I can't wait either, even though all my kids already have way too much stuff!
  20. I went to WM this morning and saw a big stack of the $148 Sony Blu-Ray players but did not get one. When I went back this evening to see if there was anything I missed earlier, there was a sign on a still big stack of them with the $148 crossed out and $118 written in. So, I grabbed one and it did ring up for $118. I asked an employee that I've known for years and she said that they had ordered a bunch of them thinking they would be hot, but almost none had sold for the $148, so they marked them down. I'm going to keep my eye on them over the next few days to see if they go any lower so I can return and rebuy, but I just wanted to mention this in case anyone wants to check their WM to see if they lowered the price there as well. As of 8:30pm, they still had about 10 big screen tvs amd about 40 of the Magnavox blu-rays, too!
  21. ARRGG! I've had my contacts in for 20 hours and they are "fogging" up on me... but I don't dare leave my computer to take them out, cause I'd come back and everything would be sold out!
  22. It will show OOS until the items go up for sale. Its just Wm.com's way of having the item listed, but not available until the correct time. No idea about the hoop, though, sorry!
  23. ROFL!

  25. I'm 99% sure that they are just showing out of stock because they are not available for purchase yet. When the deals go live, the OOS should disapear and they will have some available. :)
