  1. We've been lucky that all the homes we've lived in (husband is Air Force -- there have been quite a few ) has had some sort of locking storage that we could use. Someone who owned this house before we bought it put a locking doorknob on the master bedroom closet. So I keep gifts in there in this house. We also have a storage room with a locking doorknob in the basement if I need more room.
  2. I've done a bit of shopping already, but not as much as I have in previous years. I stocked up on clearance christmas ornaments that I give to people in the days after Christmas last year. My teens aren't really sure what they want this year, so I don't have much other than some stocking stuffers and a few odds and ends for them but no idea on what their bigger gifts will be. My husband is deployed and will be gone still at holiday time, so we have finished our shopping for him so we can be sure to get it to him in time.
  3. I agree that baked good are a good bet for the "obligatory" gift. I also will pick up tree ornaments when they are on sale or clearance to give as gifts when I'm not sure what else to give. Most people that aren't going to like or use anything else you get them will like another ornament to stick on the tree!
  4. My cats have never done more that sleep under an artificial tree, but love to chew on live plants. When we had a real tree a few times, they would chew on a few of the bottom branches and then throw up around the house. That would be my concern if you got a potted tree and it wasn't dangerous for them -- that the kitten would end up throwing up all over the house.
  5. hacksolo, thanks for the information. I will check out the manual.
  6. I know the model numbers, but I can't find any information or reviews on the models. Consumer Reports, customer reviews, etc. It seems odd that Samsung does not have any information on their site about them. If you google the model number or SKU, the results returned are only the best buy website or various deal websites discussing the coupon. The coupon also states "Not valid on any BestBuy.com order, including store pickup." I called the local store this morning and they said the delivery dates available on the web site are for merchandise ordered online, not purchased in the store. The gentleman in appliances seemed to think that this was going to be a new product that would arrive for this coupon event. It seems like it is a good deal. I'm just leery of a product that I can't find any reviews for.
  7. The only thing that makes it less attractive to me right now is that I cannot find any info about the model washer and dryer ANYWHERE. The Samsung website doesn't have them and the Best*Buy website doesn't have any reviews for them. Also, the product locator is showing the item as unavailable for every zip code I put in. I've put in several different areas of the country. Has anyone found any info about these specific models?
  8. Thanks! I ordered last night for my husband and son. Great deal.
  9. To have fun, enjoy the day and keep my sense of humor.
  10. I tend to be out on Black Friday more to get into the season and people watch more than for the deals. I mean, if I get something that's great but I'm not getting hurt or fighting with someone. And don't get me wrong, I have gotten some great deals! I normally go by myself unless my parents visit us for Thanksgiving or the other way around, then my mom and I will head out together. One year, I thought I had convinced my husband to go out with me. When I got up to leave, he just grunted and stayed asleep. I shopped, got home about four hours later and hid my purchases. I heard him say "I'm coming, I'm coming". He wanted to know how long before I wanted to leave to go shopping! We ended up going for breakfast instead!
  11. Oh, wait. No I'm not. It's their warped version of a holiday card!
  12. I've found that the deals in these three tend to be better starting the day after Christmas. My kids have gotten gift cards from relatives the past few years and end up getting a ton of stuff on clearance right after the holidays.
  13. I am also in Ohio, a neighbor told me about this today. She said the cashier told her it was a price match/loss leader type deal because Pepsi products are $3.99 in the current Meijer ad. So it may only be in areas with a Meijer nearby.
  14. 1. In your opinion, what store had the best Black Friday ad last year (2008) and why? I got the most mileage out of the Lowe's ad last year. 2. What would be your #1 piece of advice to someone totally new to Black Friday? Keep a sense of humor and a good attitude. Being grouchy and aggressive just ruins it for everyone. 3. Besides offering great deals, what else can a store do to get you to shop there on BF? Coupons for later in the weekend always make me happy.
  15. I voted significantly more than previous years. :) This year we decided to get laptops for the kids and our gift to each other will be an iMac. Saving up to get them happens to coincide with the holidays, so we'll be pumping more into the retail sector this year. This is the only gift hubby and I are getting each other this year, and we will only get a few other things for the kids like the traditional socks, undies, pajamas. That type of thing. Also, because we now live closer, we have gotten to know my brothers step-kids and their families and will add three family gifts to the budget. So the extended family budget went up just a little. My kids also have birthdays in January and February, and we already have some ideas of things they would like. If they have deals for those things around holiday time, I will go ahead and pick it up to save for the birthdays.

    too soon?

    Wow, already??? Cool!
  17. I've gotten some nice ones from http://www.look-it.com/ and from http://discountleotards.com/ at pretty decent prices. http://www.snowleotards.com/ sometimes has some good deals, check back they do sales and free shipping at times as well. I know that the GK-Elite leos are more expensive, but they last forever. Since you have a little one to pass down to, they might be worth it. Plus they have leo sales also. http://www.gk-elitesportswear.com
  18. http://www.familychristian.com/shop/product.asp?prodID=23432 $44.99. This is the mini set, If they have any stores in your area they would be on sale as well. I purchased mine in the store. I hope you find one! I love mine.
  19. What a great solution! Congratulations for being a big brother/sister gifts go over so well for kids that age!
  20. I have to hit the grocery for a few items later today, and we told the kids we'd take them to PetSmart to pick up some kitty toys for their cats. They each like to put together a stocking for the cats. PetSmart is next door to Michaels, so we may run in there to check out the clearance.
  21. totally! If someone doesn't know me well enough to be able to pick something out for me, I'd rather that they save their money! That said, I don't understand why someone who wanted a list would then disregard it? And to get the OP's son an item she knew that he wouldn't like? Just because she did like it? Kind of seems like it isn't in the spirit of gift-giving.
  22. I wouldn't give them, because my friend asked me not to. I couldn't be friends with someone and totally disregard their feelings in this way. If you are sure that family has stepped in to ensure the kids receive some gifts for Christmas, I would hold onto the gifts. Perhaps for birthdays, or another holiday. Or for your daughter to give them as "just because" gifts when the family is back on it's feet.
