  1. We actually do this for a lot of people in our life ---- I always take my kids to pick names off of the *Angel Tree* somewhere. They choose children who are close in age to them and/or have requests simular to what they want. We then shop for the gifts, wrap and take care of getting it to the organization. I always stock up at the after Christmas sales on ornaments, normally angels, and the kids then sit down and write a note to the person they have done this in honor of to let them know. Everyone has always loved it. My son had a wonderful fourth grade teacher and she actually broke down crying when she read his card. The poor guy actually thought she didn't like it and was upset with him. She let him know very quickly that it was one of the best gifts she had gotten. We started this many years ago with my grandmother, because she was tired of the clutter and people feeling they *had* to buy her something. It just kind of evolved from there to include coaches, church friends and teachers. My kids get an opportunity to give to others, really think and put effort into a charitable donation, but they also see that doing things for others can be a wonderful gift for more than just that person. We normally do a gift card at the end of the year or Teacher Appreciation Week.
  2. Thank you! I didn't realize until I saw this post that I had not received an ad from them with coupons for quite a while now. Time to update with them!
  3. We have Cox, and I checked this morning and our Sounds of the Season changed from Halloween to Christmas while I was watching. So I will pull out the cd's soon, but I already have been listening through music choice and will continue that through the season.
  4. Wow, that's crazy. I applaud you for being honest with them. I would not have participated either. I hope they enjoy your baked goods!
  5. A close friend got one last year at Michael's and got a great deal with the 50% off any tree coupon. I know that it was 9-foot and prelit. It is a very full, gorgeous tree. I don't like prelit trees, or I would have gotten one for myself. They have already started to put the trees out at the Michaels in my area and were talking about the coupons coming out in Mid-November. I also saw some very nice trees at Lowe's last week.
  6. I have always counted, and given my kids, clothes as gifts. The clothes they get at Christmas are always more about fashion over function, anyway. Both of mine have to wear uniforms to school, so they love getting the *cool* stuff.
  7. Well, I'm, well let's just say I'm NOT in my twenties, but I vote solid purple also. You know that she wants purple, but do you know if she likes florals? I ask because I love purple but don't care for florals or grapes or any of that kind of busy stuff. I would prefer the solid purple for myself
  8. I know that W*l-M*rt doesn't care, but I haven't shopped there in so long that I honestly can't remember the last time I bought something at one of their stores. And my life is none the worse for it. I do think that this tactic seriously sucks and will e-mail and call, just for the principle involved. I think that they also feel if you can't plan too far in advance, maybe, just maybe, a customer will stick around a store a little longer and buy other items instead of rushing off to the next BF deal. After all, they don't make the biggest profit margins on some of these doorbuster deals -- it's the other items people throw in the cart, since they are *already there anyway*. They want people to stick around and spend more. Anyway, just my thought. Good luck campaigning, everyone! :)
  9. I LOVE this site! Great *real* info and entertainment to boot!
  10. Thank you! I wonder if I can get away with using these as stocking stuffers.....
  11. Lots of different trees, so lots of different toppers. We have a lit angel, a lit star, a star my son made when he was younger and several with bows.
  12. There is an ad for Dillards on the back of the front section of my local paper that says an additional 30% off starts today. Off to the mall.....
  13. You guys have a really cool site here -- I look forward to checking it all out!
  14. Thank you! I always forget to check their web site. My daughter loves the long striped hoodies!
  15. Dillards normally starts these additional % off clearance sales on the last Wednesday of the month. They normally have it posted under the ads section on the website, but I believe if I remember correctly that is in the "My Dillards" section and you have to sign in to see it. BTW, we lived in Wichita for 3 years. The Towne East Dillards is my all time favorite place for deals!!!! I definately miss that mall.
  16. My DH decorates outside with multi-colored and most of the trees inside are in multi-colored. One tree is decorated in purple and gold, and it has all purple lights. My daughter has a purple tinsel tree for her room with purple lights, and my son has a matching blue one for his room with blue lights. Yes, I know, I have an addiction to Christmas trees.....
  17. I think I love all Christmas movies! I am never able to pick a favorite One we watch a bunch that hasn't been mentioned is Scrooged.
