  1. Check to make sure the lenses will fit a new DSLR. My dad had an old cool Canon camera and still had the lenses, but they don't fit on my DSLR unless I buy an adapter.

Let me guess FD lenses? If so then you might as well forget about adapters for modern SLRs, distances are too short. Now micro 4/3 (like sony's nex) will adapt them nicely. Also don't forget to look at other brands, like Nikon's old Nikkors or Pentax K/M42's, the quality can be pretty surprising.
  2. What's the lens in the AAFES? Is it an extra lens? They all come with a basic lens (18-55mm.) The bag you can get anywhere, and it's probably a better idea to get a bag you want - I don't like those freebie bags. The Nikon D5100 is actually a slight step up from entry level.

I actually don't like the T3 - I'd rather spend the money on the T3i, I just like the specs on that camera better (while the MP isn't a huge concern, shooting in live view could be useful.) It also has the larger screen on the back, and it is multi angle which could be helpful when shooting video. (In HD!)

The T3 (1100D) is more of a Sub-Rebel, it replaces the old XS series. If you can't afford the T3i or even the older T2i (which is still better than the T3), look at Canon's Loyalty Program for even cheaper refurbished models. :D

  3. Went back out at 3:30... the parking lot looked a whole lot different... no lines, the place was reasonable busy but not crowded, got what i wanted (surprisingly they had any left). The cashiers were actually waiting for people to come up. Chatted with the clerk for a bit about the rush earlier. Now if all BF's could be like that LOL
  4. How's the zoom? I love my DSLR, but I don't own any telephoto lenses, I just rent them when I want them (baseball games, football games, etc.) I'd want to get some kind of bridge with super zoom for traveling, but then I'll get to the point where I want the S95 and the SX130 and that'll wind up costing more than the DSLR...

Zoom's pretty good (60mm), just make sure you've got plenty of light. What's really impressive is it's macro focusing.

Oh and I don't recommend going over ISO 200 with it. At 400 is starts to get quiet noisy (The 130 looks a bit better quality)

Oh CHDK works with it (you can do live histograms, zebra stripping, RAW and auto-bracketing to name a few) http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK

  5. Does it have to be HD? Do you want something pocket sized?

Canon is always reliable: Canon SD1400

$149 now at Amazon, same price as BF. Comes with a 4GB Memory card on Amazon.

Slightly bigger, more zoom, Canon SX130 IS:

$179 on Amazon, same price as Office Depot on BF.

I own the SX120 IS, outside of low-light situations and p&s noise, it's a good camera, and the 130 is even better.

  6. Is that the one I saw in a commercial that lets more light in for better non-flash pictures and you can change the lens? Does anyone have that for BF?

Just Googled it. I don't think that's the one. The one I saw has a big lens, a body of a point and shoot and a pop-up flash. Guess I will have to watch more TV. ;)

I think your thinking of the Sony Nex
