Black Friday traditionally has the best deals, but stores have pretty good ads each week from BF until Christmas. Last year once BF was over we made this forum a general "Holiday Shopping" board as there were still many great deals to be found during the month after BF.

Their coupons usually say they cant be used for order comprised solely of media items, but I've used them before. Anyone know if it can be applied? Coupon: http://www.gottadeal.com/Coupon/977 -
This was very popular during BF last year, and we have it back again. If you go to this thread in the Online Deals board: http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=14285 You can request a deal on any item available at Overstock.com. Adam, our representative from Overstock.com, will try his best to get you a great discount off the regular site price - exclusively for you! Many of our visitors used this last year to get an early start on their holiday gifts, so I wanted to let everyone here know about it in case you haven't checked out the other boards yet.

Just a friendly reminder that if you want to be e-mailed whenever new ads come out, you can just enter your e-mail address on the main Black Friday home page: http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/index.php#notify You'll be immediately added to the list. Your e-mail address will not be used for any other non-Black Friday purpose - trust us :) Note that the forum membership and the alert system are not the same thing, so even if you have an account on the forum, you'll have to register for the alerts as well should you wish to receive them. And if you don't have a forum membership (what are you waiting for? ), you can still sign up to get e-mail alerts. And if you don't remember if you signed up this year or last, don't worry - enter your e-mail address anyway and if it is a duplicate it'll just be thrown out - you wont get 2 e-mails every time a message is sent out. We'll also have some exclusive surprises for mailing list subscribers as well :)

I'll be adding links very soon to the lists.

Yes, the shopping list works very similar this year except it actually saves your list, so when each ad comes out you can select the items from that store and it'll be saved. You can try it out now on the site using last year's items so you know how it works - just click the "MY SHOPPING LIST" link at the top of the page. The shopping list requires a forum account (so we can save your list with your username), so those of you lurking will have to register for the forum to use it this year.

Correct. We'll try to let you know about online deals that beat the BF deals, and we'll also have a page a day or two before BF that lists all BF deals that you can order from the stores' web sites at the BF prices.

There is a $5 off $50 coupon for books (new customers only): http://www.gottadeal.com/Coupon/718 -
usually it's electronics. most of the other items tend to be on sale for very similar prices weeks before and after BF. but you can only get those loss-leader electronics items on BF.
-
Exactly. The two things are different. Ads (such as Google Adsense) add nothing to a site and exist only to make $ for the site owner. Having affiliate links for some items is a transparent way to also make $ while not annoying visitors and taking up valuable screen real estate with traditional ads. The same thing applies to the main GD site.

Amazon has their traditional "Friday Sale" but expands it a little on BF. They also typically have most of the Toys R Us BF sale items.
-
they have regular google adsense ads. because their site is BF related and so are our ads, there is a match made by google and the ad is shown.

you can't but i can :) i'll PM you and let you know. if anyone else wants to refer people (and earn GottaPoints for each referral), your personal referral link can be found on your user control panel home page: http://forums.gottadeal.com/usercp.php

The ads are the same (or will be once they start coming out). There are just multiple sites that have them and each site has different features. We've been doing this for many years now and there are new sites popping up each year that try to do the same thing. The old "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" saying applies here. Most of them do it to try and make money from ads (you clicking on the ad at the other site proves that). We don't need ads (in fact we pay to have ads shown elsewhere instead :) ) We think that we are simply the best site as we have this busy forum, plus many great features on the main BF site such as the new-ad notifications, the personalized shopping list, etc...

I'll make one of those in a few days. For now you can just check the Store and see how many entries have been bought and multiply that by $0.10. We're currently at $2.00 but there is a loooooong time to go.

When do the Thanksgiving and BF sales ads come out in your area?
Brad replied to Angelseyes28's topic in 2005
Ours comes in the Thursday paper. Although some stores like WalMart tend to mail them out a few days before that. -
I think they will be better. Last year, for example, WalMart didn't really go all out with their BF sale and it really hurt their sales for November. From a news article about BF last year: "More than a month ago, Wal-Mart announced that it would not succumb to the kind of "price-beater" and "early-bird" specials its competitors traditionally run the day after Thanksgiving, and Williams dismissed that approach again yesterday, labeling such limited-time, limited-quantity offers "gimmicks" and "loss leaders." "For November, Wal-Mart recorded only a 0.7 percent sales increase among stores open at least a year, compared with its own projections of a 2 percent to 4 percent increase." So I don't think they'll want to make the same mistake again.

Also just a note to let you know that we just bumped up the number of GottaPoints you receive for new threads posted here in the BF forum. Hopefully that will be another incentive to get the discussion going while we wait for the ads. So get posting and you could win one of the 10 $20 gift cards we're giving away!
