Brad replied to donnariley's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion

A good idea of what will be hot next BF will be whatever is big next month at CES. Last year, the digital picture frames and GPS units were all over the place and HDTV is always hot. The stuff that is first being announced in the next couple months will be the stuff that gets released in the fall.

The contest is now closed. The mods will be deciding the winners in the next few days, so look for an announcement sometime next week :)

I have an idea... ("one day deal only" listing sites)
Brad replied to trumpet87's topic in Discuss GottaDEAL
We are not adding anymore forums at this time. Online deals go in the online deals forum. Offline deals go in the offline deals forum. We think it's a pretty good system that way and there are only max 2 forums to look at. We also have a thread for Woot-type deal-a-day sites: http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=85834 Thread closed. -
Perimeter Perusing at Target (Target Clearance Deals) - 2007

new month, new thread :) -
wait, what? black friday is over? how did i miss it?

Some notes: 1. Very few, if any, of the new features will have any effect on server performance. 2. As for the customizable user profile pages, if we allow those, there will be an option to view everyone's profiles without customizations if you just want to view them with the standard layout. 3. Thread title prefixes will likely only be used for a few forums (contests, etc...) 4. Thread tags would likely only be used for the deal forums. 5. The new groups could possibly be useful for things like the coupon trains, etc... but we'll have to see about that.

Many of the add-on forum hacks/features have been disabled recently to prepare for the upcoming forum software upgrade. The will return after the upgrade if they are compatible with the new version of vBulletin.
-
I am doing some prep-work in advance of the forum software upgrade, and so some features are being disabled for the time being. You can always reply to the threads for freebies/contests you've done and the icon for the thread will show a little dot to show you you've posted.

If you ordered something on BF from Staples.com, reply to this thread with: 1) what you ordered 2) the status of your order 3) if you want, your order # (feel free to X-out the last 1 or 2 digits) Seems that a lot of people are getting "we're sorry..." e-mails for certain items...

It is this one: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5006894 for $898. Keep in mind this is a monitor, not an actual HDTV. It has no tuner built-in, so you'll need a cable box, satellite box, external HDTV tuner or DVR to get programming on it.

Kitchenaid Artisan @ Amazon.com $199
Brad replied to deanabrown's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
The $179 ater rebate price will be about as low as they'll go. They went for around $150-155 last year because Amazon also had a $25 off $125 coupon, but they stopped those coupons about a year ago. The rebate also ends in a week or so. -
The only issue with tags is the people starting the threads have to use them. We already have people posting deals with the subject "jc penney" and nothing else. i doubt they will also be adding tags. Although maybe I can get some volunteers to tag at least the deal threads (in exchange for a GC or something) I think the prefixes might be useful in some forums like sweepstakes - we could have the daily entries, the 1x entries, etc... we have the 1X icon for those now, but prefixes would be better and would easily be sorted then.

I just added a new mobile phone / PDA skin for the forum. You can select it from the bottom-left menu of any forum page. I'm still tweaking the colors and such, but feel free to play around with it. And there is a link at the bottom of every page in the mobile version to go back to the current skin :)

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20071125/D8T4EQR00.html I thought you all said the deals sucked? No numbers from any specific store yet, so we'll see. There's a few stores I hope have low sales...

HOT! Another DeepDiscount 20% off DVDs Code (expires 11/25)
Brad replied to Brad's topic in Online Hot Deals
last day for this one :) -
It looks like they are trying to turn you (currently simple) profile pages into myspace-type pages with "friends", comments, customization, etc... If we decided to implement that we could scrap the member pages as this would be much more integrated. And as for server resources, during 10 months of the year it won't be a problem, and if it ends up being one for the other 2 we can always temporarily turn them off. But I don't see them being much of an issue that way. Personally I like the new spam management. Delete all the posts from a spammer and ban them all from one screen

vBulletin (the forum software we use here on GD) just yesterday posted about many new features that will be in the next version of vBulletin (3.7) due sometime soon. Lots of new interesting features for both users and mods/admins. Take a look: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=249460 and let us know which of the new features you like best and would like to see implemented here when the new version comes out :)

For those of you who might be interested, here are some numbers on traffic to the site for the week leading up to Black Friday (Saturday 11/17 to Friday 11/23) compared to the same week last year: Black Friday Site (http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com) Total Visitors: up 14.6% from 2006 Unique Visitors: up 11.8% from 2006 GottaDeal.com Forums (http://forums.gottadeal.com) Total Visitors: up 51.7% from 2006 Unique Visitors: up 66.9% from 2006 So the Black Friday site had a little more traffic compared to last year, which I didn't expect since we had much less major media coverage this year (and a lot of the big coverage came in mid-October because of the WM fiasco), plus there are now about 1,278 Black Friday sites out there trying to take our visitors away, but I guess it didn't work too well for them And the forum traffic jump was absolutely huge this year. We more than doubled the previous record for number of users online on Wednesday afternoon. And it wasn't just the traffic - you guys are posting like crazy too. I took a look around today and once again we had the most posts of any Black Friday forum this year (which doesn't even include our Holiday forum), and that includes the BF forums at huge deal sites with millions of visitors. So give yourselves a pat on the back for not just lurking, but participating as well. And don't stop now - the forum is open all year :) Thanks to all our forum members and especially our invaluable team of moderators for a great Black Friday 2007 here on the forum!
