Here are the dates (according to our records) when various ads were posted during the past 7 years: http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/Dates And here are links to text lists of the items in the ads (at least the ones in our database) dating back to 2003: 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 And new this year, you can also browse the older scanned ads at http://www.blackfridayarchive.com

It's that time where we start looking for volunteers for various Black Friday-related tasks on the site. Below you'll find some descriptions of things that we will need help with. If you want to help out, please PM me and let me know which of the items below you'd be interested in helping with along with any related experience/skills you may have. If you've helped in the past, let me know as well. To make things easier, we have 2 jobs that we need help with: Ad Linking: We'll need several people to help link the thousands of Black Friday ad items to the product pages on the store web sites. This involves looking at the BF ad and searching for the same item on that store's web site and pasting that link in a special form. You basically just need to know how to search a store's site using either the item number (if the ad shows it) or the product's name and then copy and paste. Ad Posting: We'll need several people with excellent availability (primarily during the first 3 weeks of November including early mornings and nights) and who have above-average typing skills. It might be helpful if you also know how to do basic image editing (resizing, cropping, etc...). You'll be taking the scans of the ads and typing up each item in the ad, selecting the appropriate category, entering price/rebate info, etc... This one requires a little more work but you'll get to see some ads before anyone else if you can do these things. To make things easier so we don't have more than one person doing the same work, we'll set up a private forum for the helpers to get together, so if you are chosen you'll get access to that forum where we'll assign tasks and post updates. You won't be alone or feel overwhelmed - we'll hopefully once again have a small army of volunteers this year. These are volunteer positions, but you will be rewarded for your time and efforts at the end of the year. Those of you who helped with this the last few years would be very welcome to help again as you all have done a great job. So again, if you feel you could do one or both of these things, send me a PM. If you have any questions, you can PM me as well. Thanks

OK, we've done this one for many years and it's always been fun: simply reply to this thread with your guess for the date and store for the first ad to be posted on the Black Friday site. Only post one guess and if you edit your post more than 10 minutes after your initial post, your entry won't count, so make your best guess now! For help, view this chart for 2006-2012 dates: http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/dates.php Keep in mind that Black Friday is November 29th this year, the latest possible date, so ads will likely be later. I'll accept entries until Sunday October 6th at 9:00pm ET. At that point I'll randomly select 5 people who posted their prediction and they'll win a Black Friday t-shirt. If anyone ends up being correct on both the date and store for the first ad, I'll send you a GD prize pack. If more than one person is correct, you all win prize packs. We'll use eastern time zone to determine which day a late-night ad is posted on. Good luck to everyone! If the first ad comes out before the contest ends, there will be no additional winners beyond those who already had their guesses posted (but you can still reply to the thread with a comment to have a chance to be chosen randomly for the 5 shirts).

When will Black Friday predictions for this year come out?
Brad replied to BabyBear24kGold's topic in 2013
I'll be posting them in the next week or so. In the meantime, here is a thread where you can post your own predictions: http://forums.gottadeal.com/topic/196083-early-black-friday-predictions-for-2013/ -
Well to be technical, we did cover BF back in 2003, but it was on everydeal.com, not GD This is the 10th year covering BF on GD and January 1st is the 10th Anniversary of the site's launch. So as for the shirts... I have a GD "10 years" logo done (doesn't say the word anniversary or the word years - just the number 10 and 2004-2014. The logo I came up with would probably work best with a grey shirt, so I'm leaning towards a grey BF shirt. Don't know if it'll be more a heather grey like the 2006 one I posted above (probably my favorite shirt we've had) or it'll be more a solid, slightly darker shade of grey. Both would work. I'm thinking maybe put the "GD 10" logo on the front and then a catchy BF slogan/design on the back for people behind you to see/read. Because the shirt has the year 2014 on the logo, it could technically be used for this year and next and still be "timely" for those who don't like wearing shirts with older years on them. This year would be the 10th "year" of BF on GD, and next year would be the 10th anniversary of our first year of BF coverage on GD.

Last I heard from Dev, he plans on doing the show this year, possibly on Google+/YouTube instead of Livestream. We're still working to see which platform would be better.

You should be able to do it by going to the link I posted in the OP. You might have to change to the "standard" theme if you are using the mobile version. Otherwise you can change it on a regular computer.

Found most if not all of the old shirts. Excuse the wrinkles on some of these as they were stored at the bottom of a plastic storage bin and were crushed. 2005: http://i.gottadeal.com/main/images/merch/oldshirts/1.jpg http://i.gottadeal.com/main/images/merch/oldshirts/2.jpg 2006: http://i.gottadeal.com/main/images/merch/oldshirts/3.jpg 2008: http://i.gottadeal.com/main/images/merch/oldshirts/5.jpg http://i.gottadeal.com/main/images/merch/oldshirts/6.jpg 2009: http://i.gottadeal.com/main/images/merch/oldshirts/4.jpg 2010 (black) and 2011 (blue): http://i.gottadeal.com/main/images/merch/oldshirts/7.jpg http://i.gottadeal.com/main/images/merch/oldshirts/8.jpg 2012: http://i.gottadeal.com/main/images/merch/oldshirts/9.jpg http://i.gottadeal.com/main/images/merch/oldshirts/10.jpg

Giving this another bump. I don't want to see any of these:
-
I'll try to post some pics of all the previous shirt designs soon (if I can find them, haha)
-
So I need to start getting some ideas for the Black Friday t-shirts this year. Please use this thread to post ideas, slogans, color suggestions or actual designs. Note that this is the 10th year covering Black Friday on GD, so if you want to incorporate that somehow, that would be awesome as well. Regardless of the design chosen, we'll probably have some sort of GD 10th Anniversary element to the design somewhere on the shirt.

To make things easier this year with knowing who's who, I strongly suggest that if you don't already have a custom personalized avatar (the little picture that goes with your post), that you get one ASAP. To change your avatar, go here: http://forums.gottadeal.com/index.php?app=core&module=usercp&tab=core Click the "Change my photo..." button and either upload a picture from your computer or enter the URL or an image you'd like to use. The new forum software doesn't have the "stock" avatars anymore, so you can be creative and use whatever you'd like. It'll be much easier to get used to seeing familiar faces over the next few months if everyone has a unique avatar. Thanks

As always, we have several dedicated threads for the hotter items each Black Friday. Please try to keep all discussion related to these items in their official threads. Other threads posted will likely be merged into this main thread.

New apps are available. Get the links here: http://gottadeal.com/App The Android app only works with Android 4.0 or later. For those of you on older Android devices (prior to Android 4.0), you can download this version of the app directly and install it on your device: http://tapatalk.com/rebranding/rebranding_download.php?type=4&apk=R290dGFEZWFs20130819120807.apk Note that your device may not allow installation of non-market apps. You can enable that functionality by following the instructions here: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/22616/android-allow-installation-of-non-market-apps/

Just an update. The new GD app is now on the Google Play Store and the Amazon App Store. The Apple iOS version is in the process of being approved by Apple. The Android version requires Android 4.0 or later. If you have an older version of Android, I'll be posting a link to an older version that will work with your device. Once the iOS app is approved I'll make a more formal announcement with links to everything but until then I wanted to post this update.

With 100 days left until Black Friday, I figured it was a good time to open the main BF forum for any early discussion. As we've done the last few years, we'll open the individual store sub-forums and the holiday discussion forum a little later on.
-
If my math is correct, tomorrow is the 100 day mark (ugh, down to double digits) so I'll likely open the main BF forum to get things going "officially".
-
We'll probably open the main BF forum later this month - likely around the 100-day countdown mark like we did last year.
-
Just an update: Apple has been having some security issues with their developer portal for the last week (search Google for full details), so we have been unable to get the replacement app uploaded. Once they have reopened the site we'll get the new apps up ASAP, both iOS and Android.
-
For now we should work with the regular Windows Phone Tapatalk app. Don't know if they have a free version of that or not, but it's a useful app either way if you use a lot of forums.
-
Not getting much help from our current developers so we are going to proceed with getting the new Tapatalk-developed GD apps in the iOS and Android app stores ASAP. With this developer we will also possibly be able to have a Windows Phone app in the future as well. The current apps will eventually disappear from the stores once the new ones are approved. In the meantime while we wait for the new apps to be approved you can always download the generic Tapatalk app and you should be able to find GD in the directory.
