I always recommend sticking with the major brands, namely Garmin or TomTom (I have one of each).

 

I am really fond of my Garmin 780 (feature-packed at $199.99):

Garmin has a deal with Mapquest.com where you can create your route on Mapquest and then sync it to your Garmin via USB cable (which is faster that tapping on the little pressure-sensitive screen).

We love our Tom Tom as well. We will be getting our 21 yo daughter one for Christmas. I am amazed she has survived this long without one!

I have a garmin. I do like it but it doesn't speak the street names which i would like. Just FYI I saw the garmin 200w on clearance at my target for 86?? dollars which was 50% off. There were 2 others on clearance but don't remember which kinds. they were in the glass case not shown on top. hth
