shelleee Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Okay - looking for comment from a Walmart or former Walmart employee. ( Or anybody else that can confirm) I was shopping at Walmart with my 2 girs one day..when the total came up I thought it was higher than usual, but I paid and we went on our merry way. For a few days, that total just kept bugging me...so I pulled out my receipt and found that the casheier had charged my for 3 cases of baby wipes, 13.00 each, when I only got 1 case. I called Walmart immediatley last night and she told me I havd 7 days to bring the reciept back for to get my 39.00 back. Upon arrival and explaining the situation, and people sizing me up to see if I am lying......the Front End Clerk told me that the manager had to review the tapes to see if I really only got one. I said what tapes, and she just kept saying...the tapes. Does Walmart video tape their customers are they are being rung up and leaving the store?

I have seen footage on cop/detective type stores that have cams on the registers and doors, in fact, its what got one woman convicted of murder, they saw what she bought
MoOn-BaBy Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 (Former WM employee) There are video camera's all over the store. And The little black dome above each cashier station has one in it, mainly to make sure the cashier's aren't stealing, but you can see the customer's aswell. It's not just WM, I would say it's a safe bet 99% of stores have camera's these days.
shelleee Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 I guess when you are not up to no good, you do not realize these sorts of things.
debbieshops2003 Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 My son is used to work for Target and now for Albertsons. He says there are cameras over every register. And that is pretty standard to review the tapes for an amount that large. If it is small, they usually don't hassle it. But it is just frustrating that they mess up and now you have to be invonvenienced. They should not only give you the $39.00 back that you were overcharged but also compensate you for the inconvenience. When an item rings up for an amount other that what is posted, WM will give you the item for free or take $3.00 off the amount if over $3.00. Albertsons will give you the item for free. Target doesn't do anything but give you the difference back.

I was surprised hadn't heard anything about it being retracted.
1angelnhvn Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I asked just recently about the $3 Walmart policy and they said they no longer do it? I was surprised hadn't heard anything about it being retracted. They were probably paying out WAY too much money for the errors! I can never go to the store anymore and NOT have something ring up wrong or get double charged for something. Got to keep an eye on your stuff for sure and that's hard to do when you are toteing little ones around......
debbieshops2003 Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I asked just recently about the $3 Walmart policy and they said they no longer do it? I was surprised hadn't heard anything about it being retracted.I didn't know they changed that policy. I really don't care for WalMart that much so I don't go in there that often. EARLY in the morning it is ok. That policy was the only thing that made it even somewhat worth it when you had to stand there until they got it right. That's a bummer. They were probably paying out WAY too much money for the errors! I can never go to the store anymore and NOT have something ring up wrong or get double charged for something. Got to keep an eye on your stuff for sure and that's hard to do when you are toteing little ones around......I agree. I always double check my receipts before leaving. It seems more often than not something is wrong. They probably count on the fact that most people don't pay attention. I know my husband wouldn't notice. And moms usually are there with little ones so even if you normally do you are distracted.
GrandmaWK Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I understand for theft prevention there are cameras every where in a store, Grocery, car parts, major department stores, drug stores,I am sure there are more than I can think of
Rockfordmom Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I asked just recently about the $3 Walmart policy and they said they no longer do it? I was surprised hadn't heard anything about it being retracted. They stopped doing that a long time ago. And also opening a new register if there was more than 3 or 4 in line, now they don't care if there's 10 in line!
bmatney Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I love Wal*Mart. Don't know how I could afford to shop without them. No retailer is perfect. Just have receipt in hand and call the store. Ask for management and explain what happened. I have had no problem in returning.

I usually hear them call cashiers right away, lol.

Target doesn't do anything but give you the difference back.really? Walmart does that, I know albertsons does, but I've on more than one occasion have bought something that they have priced differently on the floor and they NEVER give me anything except for the item at the price.
KoopawnKode Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I wish we had a law like this in California http://www.michigan.gov/ag/0,1607,7-164--134114--,00.html If an item scans the wrong priced and is marked the correct price (on the item) then you get the difference (price adjustment) PLUS 10x the difference (min. $1, max $5) that's great!
jbrawn26 Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Our Walmart definitely has cameras over every register which I had no clue of and my husband is an Assistant Manager. I was charged for 3 18 packs of beer when I only purchased one... I had 4 kids with me and a ton of groceries so I didn't notice until I got home and reviewed the receipt. My husband took the receipt into work with him and got the money back.. I said you had no problem? Then he told me that he asked them to review the tape and make sure so they didn't have a problem later on. He said they told him they trusted him and he said review the tape anyway I don't want an issue... so long story short I didn't know they had cameras over the registers but apparently they do because I was on one and had no idea about it lol.
Kara1204 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 At HyVee, if an item does not scan the price it is marked on the shelf, you get the item FREE. Needless to say, our Scanning Dept. usually has about a 98% accuracy rate or better. Mistakes happen, but you gotta catch it and get it right. Worth it to give ONE person an item for free rather than piss off 100 people who could be overcharged if a mistake is not caught.
